Local seed sources? What is your favorite?Posted Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 7:59 PM
I was just about to place my seed order online today, when I came to a screeching halt. Why not try local first?
What are your favorite places to get seeds in this area? What I am looking for is Asian veggies, but who has a good selection? Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

it is. i would love ot come my goal this year is to completely redo yard now that kids are all old enought o entertain them selves outside. i just cant get away long enough!!! i may try to join this one though! thanks for letting me know i can bring them!!
Most of us have survived kids so if you want to check us out, bring them along. We don't discriminate.
In fact, if more people want to come but can't because of children, maybe we could find a way to have a separate place to play a movie while we meet. Hmmmm, got to think about that, but let us know if that is what is holding you back.
i have hollihock seeds if any one would be interested in them. i cant ever make it to the swaps(kids) but i could sure meet up with someone through the week and give them out. my hollihocks get as tall as my house. i have white, red yellow and a blackish color.
Certainly let us know about the schools plants. I don't think the T-G would have any problems with us posting it. We could also add the info to our web page.
If I can't find someone local for the Asian veggies, I will do better ordering from the web. Probably go with Johnny's but I will get more seeds than I need, but I can use them for fall.
That is where Mike's idea of sharing the costs of seeds comes in.
Jacks4me,are you offering pothos or pups? ;)
I have felines that test their bonsai skills on my plants at every opportunity.
I'd like some marigolds,at least, even if the pests they repel don't include those who bark or purr.
We usually get takers for any shared plants or seeds, so bring'em on! It will be good to see you.
Chinese broccoli would be an example of the seeds I can not seem to find locally. I understand why, but I just thought that if someone did carry more diverse seeds, I would want to support them.
My school's greenhouse program is going to sell tomato plants this year, maybe 5 or 6 varieties. It's their first year of operation, so they are going to test their market first. I'll know more later.
They will have baskets of impatients and trays of marigolds too.
I'm looking forward to Saturday night. I have some pothos that I started rooting after the vine broke off (jack russell terrorists:-)...would anyone like to have one of them? I have 3.
I have gotten most of my seed from Co-op or Walmart's. I'm not sure where you would get the Asian seeds, possibly the Nashville market. I sure would love to know where to buy the Italian/Roma tomato plants, before they are sold out.
Steve, I have a question, it's kind of dumb since I haven't thought to look for them until reading your post, but have you had any lucky finding chinese broccoli in the area?
