After last night my garden moves OUTSIDE.Posted Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at 3:58 PM
I have behaved this year and held back my warm weather plants. Not sure if it was behaving or laziness but I take credit for the positive side. BUT, after tonight's 40's they go out!
Several of us at the Weed'em & Weep meeting shared our persistent carrying plants in and out. It probably was not too cold, but we did not want to chill them any more than necessary. Well, now it will be necessary because most of them will be going in the ground and I'm not pullin' them back up.
I am pleased to say that my Chinese squash/melons are starting to break soil. They are about a week behind the zukes and yellow squash but they had a thicker seed cote and maybe needed more time to break out. AND, my potatoes are finally starting to peak out from the straw.
Ironically, my volunteer potatoes that came about because I missed them at harvest last year are already up and going ( not where I wanted them of course) but I already mentioned that I am pretty relaxed about garden layout, so I takes'em where I can get'em.
Sorry English teachers, I sometimes get carried away.
I have more flowers in my gardens this year than ever before. That is probably because of the garden club sharing program. I am planting some new bean varieties for the same reason.
I moved some ginger out by the asparagus yesterday. I never grew it in the actual garden before, but it is time for new things.
I have given up on the algae treatment. I paid about $15-17 for this stuff but my conscience is killing me. I can not bring myself to keep strengthening it and Deb does not want to eat the watercress anymore. If someone wants the rest, remind me before the next garden meeting.
