Weed'em and Reap meets tomorrow (Friday) at Hong Kong Restaurant

7:00 PM and all we ask is that you come to talk or listen about gardening.

The restaurant is on Madison Street in Shelbyville.

I'll be late. I'll try to bring something, but I'm not sure if I'll have time.

By the way, mother nature tricked me. Those Muskmelon plants turned out to be cucumbers. Sorry.

No harm, I only had one cucumber plant, so now I have a back-up. IF this weather does not get a little wetter, my veggie gardening might be done until the rains return.

I saw news that a favorite (or used to be)garden tool company is closing, Smith & Hawken. I knew them in the mid 80's as the dream source for well-made garden tools. When the original owners sold, the company started to change and so did my allegiance.

They were eventually sold to Scott Company which makes Miracle Grow and Ortho insecticides. At that time both the original founders stated that they would like to see their names off the brand and while I am sure they would not want to see employees unemployed, they are now glad to see the name go away.

There are rumors that Paul Hawken might start another tool collection and this time keep it strictly internet based. I sure enjoyed my one visit to their flagship state in Mill Valley, CA, but the "times they are a changin'"

Well, close to work time and I need to get a little more water on the garden. Hope to see everyone tonight. NEW FACES TOO!

They previously owned two coffee/ice cream shops, currently operate an internet sales company and teach classes, but his primary job involves the paper industry worldwide.
