Garden meeting and Jere's garden photosPosted Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at 8:53 PM
Our next Weed'em & Reap meeting is this coming Friday, July 24th. Can you guess where we will meet?
I'll tell you after I try my best to put a deadline on me getting Jere's garden photos up on our web page. The past few weeks have just been packed full of excuses, but I will really really really try to have them up before Friday. Maybe even tonight, but..... we'll see.
My Chinese melons are finally coming in and our friends have been waiting patiently. Bitter melon came first and we have no one here eating them (much) so we are happy to share.
Fuzzy melon will be next and if they produce as expected, I will bring some to the meeting by next time.
My germination of soybeans has been dismal this year. We should get a harvest this week and I just planted a thick sowing, hoping that 20-30% will give us a decent second crop.
I purposely planted our corn late to avoid the corn ear worm and they are responding well to our recent rains. I look forward to more tonight.
Tomatoes are my bumper crop this year and even the potted eggplant are holding up. Only had one tomato horned caterpillar this year ( so far. I was going to wait to see if the trichogamma wasps would lay eggs, but gave in to just tossing it into the wildflower bed.
The dill has not been attacked by caterpillars either, so I am wondering how everyone else is doing insect wise this year. Are they under control?
The only thing out of control right now are our two young cats. They are fighting big time in front of my desk and when I talk on the phone people ask me if I am starving my cats. Nah, just some cry-babies, but they keep it up so no real harm seems to be done.
