All this rain, and our goldfish almost ran out of water!Posted Monday, September 21, 2009, at 3:59 PM
When I let one of our four legged family members out to do their business this morning I heard a strange sound and decided to follow it to see what was up. What was DOWN was our goldfish pond and what I heard was the pump sucking air, or maybe it was the fish sucking water.
Yikes! I ran to start the hose, dumped a couple water barrels in there and went looking for the leak. Of course the whole area was wet from rain that was falling so nothing stood out as the culprit. From previous experience, I started pulling moss, watercress and any weeds that could be blocking the flow and causing overflow somewhere in the stream coming out of the filter pond.
Never did find it, but the water level stabilized and life might be back to normal. Our fish went on a hunger strike for a few hours to lodge their protest, but all things considered, we were lucky. I easily could have had a few raccoons catching an early morning breakfast or even our cats could have caught them in the little water that was left.
