Hot off Tuesday's press, Weed'em & Reap Garden Club this FridayPosted Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at 8:33 PM
We will be in the back meeting room starting about 6:30. Now that we have the pull down screen, (Judy) I'll be sure to bring the computer and projector for our searches.
Anyone need some begonias for rooting? I still have some outside that either need a home or they will go down with the first frost up here on the hill. Should be soon.
I started reworking the gardens for spring, as I know several of you have been doing. I hate to stop the growing until all hope is gone, but the only thing going now is the cole and cabbage crops. My peas made, but once again, it was a puny crop. I believe it is time for a soil test to see what is missing.
Bags of leaves are showing up on the streets, so it is a prime time to build your compost piles. I like to pile them on the garden to provide a nice place for the worms to flourish and work the topsoil for spring.
This year my Moses in the Cradle (Oyster Plant) (Boat Lily) Rhoeo spathacea created a plant from seed this past year. I have had it reproduce from roots division and cuttings but never seed before. Mine is the color of the first picture on the right. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/650/
If I get motivated, I will pot up one of them for a give-away on Friday. I also need to gather some garlic chive seeds for sharing.
Mike, the spider flower you gave us has finished flowering and some of the seeds have kicked out white flowers. Yours were originally lavender. The white one is still flowering.
