Ouch, ouch ouch! Did I mention OUCH?Posted Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at 7:44 AM
Sable is the one in the background.
Originally I thought Sable was a male, then the past few weeks I starting thinking otherwise. Her attraction to pink was one hint, but she was not growing as big as B.W. so I was wondering. While I have been allowed to pet them (lightly) while eating, only B.W. and Sally Jr. allowed me to pick them up without panic. I never tried with Sable because of the jitters. Well,... yesterday morning that changed. I would have written sooner, but I had trouble with blood on the keyboard. Yikes! That GIRL had teeth and claws galore. Our neighbor had mentioned wearing gloves when I collect them for the trip to the vet, but they had all seemed so adjusted to me that I could not imagine all that fuss. Well, I can imagine now! Sable would not get anywhere near me last night for feeding and in fact, started heading up the road. I intercepted her and herded her back to the group, but she stayed back in the woods, so I left early. This morning she was close to normal, but no touching (or even looking like a touch). They are all back on somewhat even keel. Sable still stays well out of touch but at least she does not head for the hills when I come.
The little cat in the foreground was the only one at feeding time this morning. The others eventually came in from a different direction and were very skittish, so I assume something or someone must have rattled them last night after I left.
Funny thing about the little one. She would not eat until the others arrived and greeted each one as they arrived.
Sable would not come within 50+ feet of me so I left. Hope she got some food.
Catnip only wires mine up. I stopped giving it to them after I lost the curtains, two teapots and a toilet seat. Don't ask.
Our cats at the house are lovey dovey, but you all are right, it is on their own terms.
I was just thinking about how calm our cats are AFTER they have had a dose of catnip. I think I will take some down to these drop-offs tonight at feeding time.
Our cat Cooper was a real lover. He only lived to a year and a half before "bobcat disease" got him, but he would snuggle at the smallest suggestion. He was lucky that Debbi could sleep with him laying across her throat.
My pastor, a few weeks ago, explained the difference between dog theology and cat theology. A dog, he said, thinks, "This human loves me and feeds me and takes care of all my needs. He must be God!"
A cat, on the other hand, thinks, "This human loves me and feeds me and takes care of all my needs. I must be God!"
I have felt your pain. A Cat unlike a Dog never has a Master. They may at times be lovable and desire attention, but it's always their choice of who and when. Cats are great Pets and they serve a valuable purpose but generally they aren't cuddly. Dogs have adjusted better to Domestication and Cats have retained their Wilder ways. However they both need mankind to care for them and thanks for the Spay or Neuter job. I do however know of one exception Daisy Mae Kitty Cat is the most Loveing Cat I've ever known.
My sympathies! My two are house cats and about as tame as can be, but when I have to manhandle them for flea powder, worming or some other horror, I get shredded for minutes and avoided and ignored for days.
