Is it time for Weed'em & Reap?

Bolivian Pepper overwintering and gearing up for Spring.
I have been saving up plants, rooting cuttings and searching out gardening books. Yesterday I could not help myself and gave away three plants to a friend of our daughter.

Is it time to start meeting again?

Thinking "out of the garden" should we consider a different night, like Monday, Tuesday, Thursday?

Should we try a little more structure like planned topics? Did I get you worried? Thought I meant officers? Nah, we don't need them but, maybe different members could tell us about their favorite type of gardening or something new they learned or plan to try.

Maybe we invite nursery folk or gardening supply stores? We had suggestions when we first started to have some canning or even cooking sessions.

How about something else?

I've never attended any of your meetings, but I think a food preservation session would be awesome and I would seriously consider attending. I had decent luck at my first real attempt at a vegetable garden this past year, but I could certainly stand to learn some tips to make things easier.

I canned some tomatoes (apparently not nearly enough, since we're down to our last two quarts), but I don't really have any experience at canning fruits, beans, etc.

I'm also planning on doing an early spring(cabbage, etc) garden this year, but I'm not sure which varieties of these items grow best here.

I'm ready for a garden meeting during this really horrid winterime we've had! I mean, not really terrible when compared to so many others around the country, but horrid to us southerners!

I just miss all the buddies that come to the meetings. The fellowship is just as important as the things we learn. Canning the fruits of our labor is very important... not everyone was born doing it. That may bring in some younger people that don't have the knowlege about gardening. We could let someone have the floor at each meeting to tell about their garden or something new to us. Let them have 15 min. and then talk about what they have said.

Any day or time is OK for me.

When we discussed the cooking and preserving someone suggested a church kitchen. Does anyone know one that would be willing to host us a few nights out of the year for "hands-on" sessions?

I grew up with the original Mother Earth News, back to the earth, movement in the late 60's and 70's. It was always interesting to learn what mankind has actually been doing for centuries.

The past year's economy has many realizing how important those skills could be, and I hope we continue to pass these things down from generation to generation.

Jere, you have voted on any time being workable, how about others? Friday and Saturday nights still have conflicts and we want to reach out to as many as possible. Would Sunday or Monday night be better?

I mentioned a little more structure, maybe we need to make a definite starting and ending time?

Would 1.5 hours be a decent length or should it be longer, shorter or open-ended like we had before?

A certain part of our group does not get on-line, so our very first meeting should have plenty of notice in the paper.

Someone presenting a 15 min. program sounds interesting. Tues through Sat are ok with me. Sun and Mon I have other obligations.

I'll try and make some of the meetings this year. Too many obligations from work and trying to spend some time in the garden last year.

Any day is fine as long as it's in the evening.

And it doesn't conflict with the superbowl!

Steve, Have you tried those Bolivian Peppers yet?

I am afraid to try one.

Years ago I grabbed an unknown pepper in a fit of hunger.

Now I like spicy food, well past what my wife finds reasonable, but this pepper was devastating. 12q`21 (that's my cat Sammy's contribution)

Have you eaten any espootoon? Any precautions?

Getting back to Sammy, he is soaking wet from being outside and up he comes. Most of the papers on my desk have wet footprints, the computer keyboard (of course) and I have just taken a towel to everything, including Sammy.

You have more patience than me when it comes to inside animals-I'm soooo tired of cat hair, I think I might clip my inside cat today.

I'm no pepper expert and I like spicy food, but those Bolivian Rainbow Peppers are HOT! I haven't tried one yet this year. I'm speaking from past experience....
