Weed'em Reap this coming FRIDAY. February 5th at Richard's Cafeteria 6:00-6:30Posted Saturday, January 30, 2010, at 5:43 PM
The birds were eating overtime this weekend.
First meeting of the year folks, so come and help shape the meetings to come. We don't have officers and we don't have dues so you can lose much and can gain soooo much. I believe I can say for most of us that we have developed new friendships and continue to learn something every meeting.
If you wonder what the sheet metal is below the feeders, think young cats, squirrels and raccoons. We built the spoiler originally for a cat named Cooper, but it stayed put even after he passed on and still solves the problems listed above.
I'll be bringing all the seed catalogs I have received to-date and a few house plants that HAVE TO GO by order of the one who runs the household, my wife. I have a bad habit of not being able to throw living plants away, so when our newest dog PITA snips a plant or we just have to trim something, it pops into water or soil and starts something new.
I am not sure what I will do about starting plants this year. Our greenhouse doubles as a home for all our outside pets, so PITA has had a field day with most of my starting trays and pots. Besides, if I plant something, she will want to find out all about it and ends up destroying it. I sure will be glad when the "puppy" grows out of her.
My daffodils are fortunate that we had this snow before single digit temps again. They were up about 8 inches and starting to form flowers. I know they are hardy, but this might have been too much. The flowers might still get nipped, but they should survive.
