For those of us with less than accurate typing skills, assitance for inadvertantly turning on "lock keys".Posted Monday, February 22, 2010, at 8:10 AM
I would normally link to this, but since this is from a Komando.com newsletter, you might not be able to get it unless you are a subcriber. Now I know some of you techies know this, but I have been on this computer for many years and never knew. Either I or our cat trigger these keys quite frequently so I look forward to using it. (already have)
"GET A SOUND WITH THE CAPS LOCK KEY LeRoy, in Milford, MA, has an aggravation -- the caps lock key. Sometimes he hits it accidentally and types a bunch of uppercase stuff. He wants to hear a sound when he presses that thing. Windows has a built-in sound warning. To enable it in Windows 7 and Vista, click Start>>Control Panel. Double-click Ease of Access Center. Click "Make the keyboard easier to use." Select Turn on Toggle Keys. Click OK. Windows XP is a little different. Click Start>>Control Panel. Double-click Accessibility Options. Open the Keyboard tab, if necessary. Select Use ToggleKeys. Click OK. The resulting sound is a little beep. If that's not good enough, you can also enable a visual cue. It will make the screen flash. In 7 and Vista, go again to the Ease of Access Center. This time, click "Use text or visual alternatives to sounds." Select "Turn on visual notifications for sounds (Sound Sentry)." Use the radio buttons to select a warning, and click OK. In XP, return to Accessibility Options. Select the Sounds tab. Check Use SoundSentry. Click OK." |
