Weed'em & Reap RAINED OUT

Posted Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 4:52 PM

Sorry folks. We have had several folks call to say they can not make it. For safety sake, it is best we call off the meeting and make it for next Saturday.

There seems to be a lot of that going around today. I just saw a double-wide float down I-24 at Bell Rd. and was destroyed in a matter of seconds by the water once the exterior was punctured by a car floating down the interstate. That was at Bell Rd. I would imagine I-24 at Bell Rd. is going to take months to repair.

Ok, the double-wide was an empty school building from Lighthouse Christian School...or so I've been told.

Glad it was empty. We are on a hill so our flooding will be minor, more of an annoyance, but some are really going through a hurt right now.

Even our stray cats would not come out to eat. I can imagine them looking out from their dry caves and rock overhangs saying, "You might be silly enough to come feed us, but we are not silly enough to come." There is a break in the rain right now, so maybe there chowing down.

I got so wet that I gave up the umbrella. Instead I cleaned gutters and diverted water so our driveway will be passable in the morning (hopefully). Of course, if it is still raining like this, we may not go anywhere anyway.

I am getting thousands of questions about the book, so here is the info: "America's Garden Book" originally copyrighted in 1939, this version printed in 1948. Louise Bush-Brown and James Bush-Brown.

I find it interesting that they both hyphenated their name. Wonder what the story is on that.

Last page count is 1241. Green Hardcover. Binding in good shape but pages are a bit yellowed with age. In researching this, I found other reprints up into the 90's so it has some enduring features.

I know, it sounds as if I am writing an eBay listing, but I can't help myself, and maybe it was not thousands of inquiries, but I did get one!

Oops. Posted on the wrong blog entry. Unless you read about the re-scheduled meeting, you have no idea what I am rambling about.
