Vintage gardening book to be given away. Printed in 1948

Looks like a beautiful day ahead and one that just cries out from the garden, BUT take time to come to our meeting tonight. We have a backlog of plants to be given away, some great food ad a vintage garden book to be given away as a door prize.

Our club is a loosely formed group of neighbors who enjoy, or want to enjoy gardening. No officers, no formalities, no dues, just good conversation, tips, challenges about growing just about anything.

You know, between all the food and plant swapping...I think you forgot about the book!

Barbara got it. It's only 1,000 + pages so she should be done with it in a few days.

Sorry I missed the meeting this time, we went to Goodlettsville to see our oldest son, daughter in law and most importantly our oldest grandaughter.

Got more vegetables planted last week, tomatoes, dill, cucumbers, squash, cantaloupes, and hot peppers. Planted one each of white, red and chocolate habanero, and 2 of the ghost chilis, along with my normal mix of jalapenos, cayennes, cowhorn, and hot bannana peppers.

I put some beans in that Barbara gave me last year, several varieties of winter squash, zucchini and plan on putting in some Chinese squash.

I ran out of bitter melon, so I guess I need to make a late season order. Hope they still have some seeds. Also need a cucumber or two but may buy the plants locally.

I have a volunteer squash (or in that family) coming up in the compost bin. I plan on leaving it to see what surprise I get. Regrettably, it does not look like a bitter melon.

I like eating cayennes, hot bananas and the cowhorns with a sandwich or hamburger, take a bite of pepper and a bite of sandwich. I pickle some of the peppers too.

My sister had lots of cucumber varieties at the greenhouse.

Gathered my first head of broccoli tonight, as well as some turnip greens, collard greens and mustard greens. I'll be picking green peas in the next day or so.

Years past have not been good for my peas, but this year is MUCH better. We have already enjoyed a few pickings and I need to pick some more tonight.

I'll be over by the greenhouse today. I should stop by. Does she do any Asian veggies?

They previously owned two coffee/ice cream shops, currently operate an internet sales company and teach classes, but his primary job involves the paper industry worldwide.
