Weed'em & Reap garden club meeting this coming Friday 27thPosted Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at 12:23 PM
Up for grabs at meeting this week
Contents list: Vegetable Gardening Today (1989). Soil, Organic Gardening (my favorite), Hand Tools, Power Tools, Transplanting, Watering, Pest Management, Greenhouses, container gardening, growing under lights, hydroponics and vegetable varieties.
It is a large, softbound book of 405 pages with pictures, drawings, charts, etc. Lightly read (by me) and worth every penny you will not pay. Meaning, it is free to the winner of the drawing we will have. A great resource for planning and preparing your garden for next year!
Our newest dog insists on helping me harvest the squash. She is now developing the name of "Pita Pita Pumpkin eater". I know it is Peter but the other sounds so appropriate, I can not resist. Of course I have other names for her as well, but this is season specific. And yes, she has eaten several squash and a pumpkin.
It is not too late to plants fall greens. Now that the rains seem to have returned and the heat has been turned down a bit, it might be just right to get some planting in. I plan some bok choy, spinach, lettuce, and cabbage and I wanted to get another crop of edamame, so I am going to push my luck on that too.
Speaking of edamame, I have a crop I need to harvest this week, along with carrots and beets from late spring planting. Now if I can just get through the crab grass. Looking for squash is like an Easter Egg hunt, so maybe Pita is actually helping.
Will we see you at the meeting??
