Do you remember the duo of Pat & Victoria Garvey? aka Mr. & Mrs. Garvey?Posted Monday, September 6, 2010, at 1:49 PM
Mr. & Mrs. Garvey
Here is a nice blog about their work. Sadly, they did not stay together and Pat has fallen on tough health challenges, but they have some great music to their credit. http://oldfolkie71.blogspot.com/2007/10/... If you know of them or better yet, are a fan, please share your memories. I am not sure how many records they put out, but they deserve more notoriety. According to their album they wrote all the words and music to their selections, which explains why I never heard any of them. Their titles are intriguing and words even more so. Steve Mills and his wife have one daughter and live on a farm outside of Bell Buckle. They previously owned two coffee/ice cream shops, currently operate an internet sales company and teach classes, but his primary job involves the paper industry worldwide. Hobbies and interests lie in gardening, photography, recorded music and of course, their pets.

Pamela, I'm afraid I sold that album on eBay a while back, but I will keep my eye out for them. It was one to which I truly enjoyed listening
What a great remembrance you have of them and especially Victoria. I bookmarked that website and will research it later this week. Thanks so much!
I used to hear Pat and Victoria Garvey often at Cafe Lena in Saratoga Springs, New York back in the early 70's. I had the album "Mr. and Mrs. Garvey" and actually found a second one at a flea market. Alas they were both destroyed when my basement flooded a few years ago. I LOVED that record! And they were terrific as a duo. I recorded one of their songs, "The Trail of Tears" on one of my own CDs.
Pat and Victoria eventually parted company, and later Victoria married Don Armstrong. She has been performing with him ever since. I had the good fortune to host them in my home once when they were in Michigan. You can find them at donandvictoria.com. They have a really good sound and a great following in the southwest. They live in Tucson.
I was sad to read online that Pat Garvey has suffered a stroke - or maybe more than one. I read something a while back about a benefit at Cafe Lena for Victoria for health care of some sort. I don't know what that was about. Guess we all have our challenges sooner or later. It's wonderful that both Pat and Victoria have left such a rich legacy that will live beyond them.
It's a really funny movie, as are Christopher Guest's other mock documentaries ("Waiting For Guffman," "Best In Show," and "For Your Consideration"). The plot of "A Mighty Wind" involves three 60s-era folk groups reuniting for a TV special after the death of their longtime manager. Guest has a sort of stock company of actors he works with over and over again, and much of the dialogue is improvised. I've never seen the TV show "Glee," but Jane Lynch -- who is supposedly very funny as the evil cheerleading coach -- is also one of Guest's regulars, and she is particularly funny in "A Mighty Wind."
There were numerous sites especially YouTube, but with a little weeding out I found the offical site http://amightywindonline.warnerbros.com/
Mickey looked so muck like Victoria (Vickey) Garvey that kept going until I found her name. Still not convinced they are not one and the same person, but I have run out of time today.
I would like to see the movie all the way through and will see about getting a copy.
I'll look it up John. Thanks. If I find a good link, I will post it.
This immediately made me think of the characters "Mitch & Mickey" in Christopher Guest's hilarious "A Mighty Wind" -- which, if you haven't seen, you need to, immediately or sooner.
I'm not familiar with the Garveys but it sounds like they might have been part of the inspiration for Mitch and Mickey, just as "The Folksmen" are obviously based on the Kingston Trio and the Chad Mitchell Trio, and "The New Main Street Singers" are obviously the New Christy Minstrels.
