eBay help is now Customer Support, DSR change, free auction listingPosted Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at 4:12 PM
It is hard to beat the T-G free listing of items locally in the Bargain Corner, but if you sell or buy on eBay, here are a few things that might be interesting.
For one thing, the "Help" button is now "Customer Support", so if you are a creature of habit like me, your eyes will search for Help and overlook the new terminology.
Detailed Seller Ratings (DSR's) have always been a contentious area for sellers. The numerous choices often make one assume that there are different degrees of good and bad but in actuality anything less than excellent drops your rating and could eventually affect your bottom line.
People who were offering free shipping were getting zinged, which made no sense so finally in August eBay said that if you offer free shipping (nothing is really free, but...) you will get an automatic Excellent in that category.
Another category that used to create great irritation was shipping time. Once the seller delivered the item to the shipping company, it was out of their hands but that is not how eBay allowed buyers to rate us. As of November that has changed a little bit.
Now, if you have 1 day handling chosen and you upload information that shows you got it to your shipper within that time, the buyer can not rate you. You get an automatic Excellent. There is a little more definition in the fine print so check it out pn the eBay site.
Starting yesterday, until February 8th you can list auction style listing for NO listing fee, regardless of starting price. There are a couple of caveats to that as well, with the main one being that you can not have an eBay store.
Since we have a store, I would like to see that modified but it is trying to entice more new and part-time folks to list. I guess they think their regulars like us are already hooked. (which we are)
After February 8th it will probably go back to the first 100 items that are started at .99 or less, but always check to be sure. You can always see what each particular listing will cost, even if you are using the bulk listing tool Turbo Lister. (TL is free by the way)
OK, I am done except to say to those folks who came to my free buying class last month, it is time to check about the special I offered for the selling class. Justifiably T-G does not want me to go further on this, so you will just have to contact me or check eBay University.
