We HAVE to find a better solution for ticksPosted Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 8:53 PM
The diatomaceous earth seems to be keeping the fleas and ticks at bay for our semi-feral group of cats who stay outside, but we occasionally treat them with Frontline Plus when we can catch them.
The cats that come in and out of the house get FP every month but the costs are killing us so I keep looking for a better solution. I ran across something today (of all places on eBay) where folks are buying the dosage for extra large dogs and reducing the dosage for cats.
Has anyone had success with this? They claim it is something the shelters do all the time. Is it?
The dog solution has a little less of S-methoprene than the cat solution so it would appear to be safe for both, but does anyone know why S-methoprene has a higher percentage for cats than dogs?
Would it be a safe solution?
Frontline Plus for Dogs (fipronil 9.8% and S-methoprene 8.8%)
Frontline Plus for Cats (fipronil 9.8% and S-methoprene 11.8%)
