Miss Sophie left us today. One super big, little dog.

  • By the way, you may also remember that PITA earned her place in our family by laying on top of Blackie's grave last summer (one of our cats). Today she could not lay on Sophie's grave because the rocks were a but uncomfortable, but she was the only dog to come up, visit and sit next to Sophie for a few minutes.

PITA used to harass the crap out of Sophie on her trips to the bathroom, but somehow I got the feeling that they both got some enjoyment out of it. PITA was 6-7 times her weight and 10 times her size but all she would do is hover over Sophie and put her nose on her head.

Sophie on the other hand, had to jump up to try to nip PITA, all while barking in a ferocious manner. I don't think she ever really made contact but PITA always acted scared. Maybe we all will miss her.

  • So sorry Steve. Never an easy thing, but the right thing to do in the long run. It's amazing how these unassuming beings bless us with their loyalty and love.

  • Thank you to those who contacted me directly regarding our precious Sophie. She is on my cell phone wallpaper now and will always hold a warm spot in our hearts.

I thought about putting her on my computers but I might not get much work done as I mourn her absence. Those of you who have not had a close relationship with a pet will think I have lost it.

I have, but I will get it back.

Those of you who HAVE known this emotional tie, understand.

  • Your Sophie is on the other side of the rainbow bridge. As one that knows too well that emotional tie you are in my thoughts.

  • I'm so sorry to read about Sophie's passing. It's always hard to lose a friend/member of the family.

  • Thanks. She was on and now wrapped in her "blanket" that she slept on every night with us, so she was as comfy as we could make it.

  • I am so sorry for your families' loss. Her unconditional love will live on through you and your devotion to your other fur kids.

  • Thanks cats4me. Sophie's picture is on my cell and on my desk.

Each time I get up to do something, I still hesitate to wait for Sophie to get up and come with me. She won't take a back place in my mind for quite a while.

I woke up this morning thinking about finding a lost and bloody kitten. He/She survived and grew close (in my dream).

Not sure what that means, if anything. We have three new kittens (8 weeks) that we are trying to acclimate to people, but the mother only lets us pet her on her terms so the kittens have not mixed with us yet.
