Where are 60% of our bloggers?

Posted Sunday, June 5, 2011, at 3:55 PM

This has been tickling me for a while, and I just can not stand staying quiet anymore.

I see the opportunity to blog on the T-G as a privilege and as a result I have an obligation to WRITE SOMETHING.

It does not have to apply to everyone and usually doesn't. It does not have to be entertaining or historically significant, or at least I hope not.

People often do not respond, which may or may not be a reflection on the topic. And at one time I was concerned that no one was reading it, but I continually run into strangers who know me as that guy who rights on the T-G blog, or know me but can't place why. (my mug shot accompanies every blog)

I had one person want to know why I write about such non-important subjects (no, my wife does not comment on my ramblings) and others who say they love my gardening notes or eBay observations.

Occasionally I write on a controversial subject (maybe this one will be) but I like to keep things civil, so I do not get into heated dissertations that call people names. Maybe that is boring to some, maybe not.

I make observations about strange things, like a smoker at yesterday's auction who is standing on the outside edge of the crowd to be polite, but does not realize they are standing right next to an industrial fan blowing air into the building. Hello!

Now I may fall quiet for a week or two. Life has a way of diverting one's attention, but we have bloggers on here who have not written for months, many months! Come on folks!

If it is not your interest anymore, give it up so others might have a chance. Understandably the T-G did not want hundreds of bloggers on here, but I am sure they wanted active ones. If YOU are interested, why not call the T-G and let them know?

What about fishing, music, art, crafts, motor car racing, spelunking, hiking? Surely there is another person out there who might like to write about their gardens, canning, homesteading, bird watching, parenting, couponing, bike riding, walking, knitting, YOU NAME IT.

If you read the Jones' 2 blogs and then the one Shawna just had to start to explain why theirs were deleted (I don't know what happened to your 2nd one) then you would see that those of us who raised questions were referred to as 'petty and childish', 'small town mind' and 'backwards'.

That is why I don't want to comment on anything. I try not to be derogatory.

wonderwhy,

I wonder why too!

I don't have to talk about Obama being a sorry President. Everyone should be able to see that for themselves if they would pull their head up out of the sand.

Obama knew what shape this country was in when he took office. His goal should have been to make it a better country to live in. Instead he has invited Mexicans in and wants to keep them here. He has no intention of protecting our borders or putting people to work except as government employees.

Since then he has done NOTHING to Help this country, except okay the Navy Seals to go in and kill Bin Laden, who put himself on house arrest when he started his reign of terror.

King Obama has spent and spent until our money won't buy much at all. His Leadership has put us in the worse double recession in history. Today he is working to give all the illegal aliens (including prisoners and other criminals) amnesty, yet won't do anything to protect our borders. Home owners are being killed by Mexican Drug dealers and Gun Runners.

King Obama doesn't obey the United States Constitution and has no respect for it nor our country. He is inviting the Islamic brotherhood to come to our country and bring their Shariah Law with them. King Obama is making plans to help pass laws in the United Nations that will take away your rights and your arms. The United Nations can't do what they are being paid to do in Libya, but would have jurisdiction over everyone in our country.

He has put a woman in charge of Homeland security that says our borders are safe. Doesn't say much for Homeland Security or the king.

King Obama has made the home equity in our homes worth about half the value they should be. He has financed the Corporate Industry and taken from the middle class.

He has put us in another war with Libya and nothing is being accomplished there except spending more money everyday to finance it.

He refused to send in ground troops so this war will never be over either.

If you listen to his speeches you will hear king Obama promise one thing and do the opposite. He has done that with every speech he has ever made.

He promised to produce millions of jobs by the end of summer yet the unemployment keeps going higher.

You are being lied to by the government and it's media and experts. The unemployment rate is at least 18% now and going higher. Just as King Obama told YOU that the economy was getting much better and the recession is over as we went into a double recession.

Now with the Natural disasters around the world and all the protests, picketing and murdering the recession is going to remain stable at un-improveable for years to come.

King Obama has bailed the auto Industries out so they can make cars again, just to see Japan shut down plants everywhere making it impossible to get the parts needed for auto manufacturing and if they could get the parts needed, who is going to buy them?

The only people who will be able to buy new cars will be the Corporate Officers and gurus.

If you have read all my comments the past year... you would have to agree that I have said Obama will get re-elected in 2012 and will be the last president of the United States.

I do not want this to happen, but I know Obama will get re-elected.

But then, your smart. I don't need to tell you all these things that I dislike about king Obama.

As fas as President Bush goes, if you had of heard me back then, you would have heard the things I didn't like about him, and I had no use for president Clinton either.

The Bush family together didn't run the deficit up as much as King Obama has done in the first 2 and a half years of his term of office.

Now the good news! I am so old that I will be dead before this all comes to past. I won't be here so it doesn't really matter. I just wanted to reply to your comment.

Oh yeah, Thanks Steve for letting me answer wonderwhy. I have been staying away so everyone can get back to norm.

PS. the water in Bell Buckle is safe again to drink. Yeah, right, lol.

By the way, please don't hold me accountable if others get off topic. I do not encourage that and usually just respond to those who talk on topic.

-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Jun 22, 2011, at 4:15 PM

I am not sure what about my bringing this up has irritated you, but I would like to explore it if you will continue.

My reason for making the second post was to ask the ones who are affected the most for their opinion.

If you read my blogs often, you know that the last thing I want to do is argue, but I believe this needs to be discussed and the BOE needs to hear what the people are thinking.

What specifically do you think I said that was inflammatory?

-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Jun 22, 2011, at 4:13 PM

Steve, your 2 blogs re homeschooling are some of the reasons I quit reading these blogs and will probably stop again since you insisted in continuing the argueing.

Unique LIES where was all your concern and worry when BUSH was in office putting all the pieces together for the demise we are in? He set all this mess in motion- - Obama's claim to it is he has not been able to stop the ball from rolling down the rut BUSH DUG. Sorry but Obama did not create this mess he has been the one trying to fix it. No not everything he presented has worked - but much of the blame for that can be put on the republicans who have dug in their heels to make sure there is little to no success that can be claimed by Obama---COUNTRY BE DAM*ED the right ring fanatics will never allow progress in any way as long as Obama is in office. They have from day one made it clear that their mission is Obama to fail PERIOD!!! They do not care who gets hurt in the process as long as their goal is reached. You understand that I'm sure since it is obvious that you too have that same intent and mission. Any success By Obama is unacceptable and in their eyes if allowed to happen unforgivable. Keep up the good work though I'm sure your one of there best supporters.

Tinaw, I try to keep things civil, even when I get controversial but as you can see, sometimes we get off topic a little.

Thanks for checking it out.

I just got tired of reading all the mean-spirited comments so I haven't been reading them anyway.

-- Posted by Tinaw on Fri, Jun 17, 2011, at 5:48 PM

Here's one they could follow up on... "Tall grass rises around foreclosed homes:"

The Banks got their stimulus money that was suppose to help stop foreclosures and look at what happened - King Obama gave the Financial Industry money to bail them out and what did they do. They took the money and bailed out, but not before they foreclosed on the poor people who lost their jobs.

While we are fighting to keep our head above water or trying to get a head, the Politicians were getting rich, right a long side with the Bankers.

Then the Banks bailed out on their responsibility to upkeep and maintain the foreclosed property.

Well, in Bell Buckle, they passed a law that allowed them to take the property if absent home owners who refused to keep their property maintained to prevent over growth and possible potential hazzards and unsightly view to the city.

If I don't miss my guess, I think there is a homesteading law that allows someone to claim property as their own if no one objects within so many years. There is also a law that says if you maintain the property for a certain length of time, you can claim it as yours.

Also running a legal in the paper to notify the last owner is all that is required to stake a claim on abandoned property, cars and ships.

Sounds like a way for the homeless to reclaim their property.

Of course, the city won't allow anyone to do that because that is what they will do.

WHAT A MESS king Obama HAS MADE OF EVERYTHING!

A WARNING from Unique Lies

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently announced the Obama Administration will be working hand-in-glove with the UN to pass a new "Small Arms Treaty."

Disguised as an "International Arms Control Treaty" to fight against "terrorism," "insurgency" and "international crime syndicates," the UN's Small Arms Treaty is in fact a massive, GLOBAL gun control scheme.

Ultimately, the UN's Small Arms Treaty is designed to register, ban and CONFISCATE firearms owned by private citizens like YOU.

So far, the gun-grabbers have successfully kept the exact wording of their new scheme under wraps.

If passed by the UN and ratified by the U.S. Senate, the UN "Small Arms Treaty" would almost certainly FORCE the U.S. to:

*** Enact tougher licensing requirements, making law-abiding Americans cut through even more bureaucratic red tape just to own a firearm legally;

*** CONFISCATE and DESTROY ALL "unauthorized" civilian firearms (all firearms owned by the government are excluded, of course);

*** BAN the trade, sale and private ownership of ALL semi-automatic weapons;

*** Create an INTERNATIONAL gun registry, setting the stage for full-scale gun CONFISCATION.

What more PROOF do you need that we are in the starting stage of the One World Order TAKE OVER?

Henry Kissinger has said many times that Barack Obama was primed to create the "One World Order". Obama is also the president to get the 7 year Peace Treaty Signed between Israel and Palestine.

all I ever read about is the city not having enough money. every person starting from the top to the bottom that receives one dime from the city should be published in the paper for their yearly income. then we could all see the corruption.

then every one in shelbyville should correct this problem what ever it takes to correct it

then every one should drive around town and look at who is not following codes and publish in the paper the owners name over and over each wk. till all the corruption is cleared then we all would have pride in our city. most every one has lost all hope in out town saying every one does as he wishes and the good old boy system has put this city so far behind our surrounding cities. this is why no one blogs or takes part or have pride when every time they do the good old boys do nothing about any thing because it may step on their boys toes and may even step on their own.

Welcome back. I understand burn-out and as I mentioned, I sometimes back off. Take some time to slow down.

-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Jun 8, 2011, at 8:50 PM

I agree Steve. Unfortunately, I took a break from ALL of my blogging for a while, due to school, life, and swim team. Also, I was just burnt out. I'm back now and hope to update frequently.

-- Posted by cherylrichardson on Wed, Jun 8, 2011, at 3:48 PM

The main problem is that damn Unique-Lies get on here and talks about anything to get the readers all stirred up. No body wants to write a blog and no one wants to comment on them. Michael Bell was one of the best bloggers. He always changed the subject when it ran it's course or got too out of control.

You are the only blogger now who stays on top of his blog. If it doesn't produce you put something else out there.

John I. Carney printed a story on the County needed to sue the CCMC for $107k. Why? The county conspired with the CCMC to commit fraud against the Utility Company and the people. He left out most of the important details of the story making it impossible to understand all the problems.

I mean, how many Utility Bills did the County Commissioners pay for CCMC before they realized the CCMC wasn't going to pay their Utility Bill. How many Bills did that take in? The County leased the Nursing Home to CCMC in 2009. When in 2009? Jan or Dec or somewhere in between? I ask because that would produce monthly Bills for anywhere from 1 and a half years to 2 and a half years. How stupid are the County Commissioners that would pay the Utility Bills that long without dropping the lease.

Now if everyone remembers correctly, just recently the City couldn't pay for Garbage Pickup and the County was broke also. Maybe the County could have helped out a little if they had not spent Tax payer money to the Utility Company for the CCMC moochers. Just because they added the word Christian to their Nursing Home title doesn't make them an honest business.

I read the t-g website that the City is in trouble again, needing more funds in the form of another City Tax Hike. Most likely a Property Tax Hike which is a violation of the Tennessee State Constitution. Only property used as commercial property can be taxed.

If the State, County and City Tax the Corporations like they are suppose to, they would have their budget money needed.

Tax the people who have budgets in worse condition than the City and the City will be cutting its own throat.

Osama Bin Laden's goal in life was to bankrupt the United States so it would fall. Hell, he was being held hostage by his own house arrest. He was too scared to leave his own home for fear of being spotted and killed. And we feared Osama Bin Laden more than the Governments who are continuing Osama's Life Goal.

Our very own Governments are doing that all on their own and dragging the people down with them with all their spending and taxing.

I also mentioned that NASA reported a 'solar tsunami' coming in 2012 but just saw on TV they are expecting some solar tsunamis this month.

So now we might need to start thinking about not just stocking food and water, but candles, matches, lighters, BBQ equipment and charcoal for cooking. Maybe some Dry Ice packs to help keep food cold during power outages.

There are all kinds of trail on Monteagle mountain. We like Greeter because it's easy and has a nice swimming hole at the bottom. Fiery Gizzard is cool too because there's several plunge pools along the trail. Maps and info can be found here...

Freezing water? Aaah. Remind me I said that next January.

Is there an establish trail for Monteagle? Where does it start and stop?

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, Jun 6, 2011, at 4:20 PM

I'm taking the kids to the splash pad tomorrow (maybe ;) in Smyrna. Free fun in the water. Rutledge falls in Tullahoma is a great place to cool off in the freezing water when it's so hot out. We love hiking Monteagle mountain, when it's cooler, but even when it's warm, there's plenty of plunge pools along some of the paths. Just a few examples of what we've done inexpensivly.

-- Posted by neighborhood mom on Mon, Jun 6, 2011, at 9:50 AM

Boy some good back-roads stuff WOULD be good. I was on the Appalachian Trail last week and it was inspiring. You could look either side and see beautiful farms, small hills and small towns.

Two weeks from now we have RC Moon Pie festival in Bell Buckle, but there are bound to be a lot of little things going on. The T-G has a weekly rundown on some things. What else?

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, Jun 6, 2011, at 9:21 AM

Why isn't someone writing about the beauty of this state. All the "free" things to do as a family? We've seen so many awesome sites in the last 2 years (due to job loss) within an hours drive that we probably not have know about had we had the money to go somewhere like Gatlinburg or Beech Bend, etc. And all it cost us was a cooler of sandwiches and $20 in gas.

-- Posted by neighborhood mom on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 10:18 PM

I like your PITA stories. She sounds like Miss Josephine, except that Miss Josephine is more of a couch potato.

-- Posted by cfrich on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 9:22 PM

WE have seemed to have snagged us a little PITA wannabe, the poor thing thinks shes a rabbit and we are her favorite target. We have had very little luck teaching her not to jump, she gets sit down but kinda like Tigger the Tiger bounces right back to jumping. If anyone out there has some good suggestions of how to teach a puppy not to jump I would love to hear them. We have tried a squirt bottle, and it works some what but the hotter it gets the more I thinks she enjoys it. I hate penning her up but in order to get anything done I have to.

-- Posted by wonderwhy on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 8:49 PM

Then I am glad to tell you that PITA and our other outside dogs seem to have survived their brush with rabies.

Miss PITA is also starting to settle down so the stories may not be as dramatic as before. In fact, last night she watched the kittens play outside without wanting to join in. Well, she may have wanted to but she just sat and watched.

It probably had nothing to do with me standing behind her saying her name over and over. I am sure she would have been restrained anyway. Right.

I think Big Boy, the male patriarch of the outside clan actually appreciates the dogs presence. He rubs up against PITA and loves on her, until she starts to lick him. Then he moves away, but consider one of PITA's licks are intimidating to us as well.

-- Posted by stevemills on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 8:15 PM

I love to hear about PITA and the others of your menagerie.

-- Posted by leeiii on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 8:03 PM

Thanks leeiii. I hope I don't disappoint you with my pearls of w..... well maybe not wisdom but ramblings.

My concern lies in the lack of activity from my fellow blog originators. I understand that it is not always easy to write but .....

Have you noticed that I like to ...... a lot? That is my way of leaving a sentence hanging, but most of you probably know that.

-- Posted by stevemills on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 7:41 PM

Steve even though I do not always respond it does not mean that I am not constantly checking your blog. I am always interested to see what you have to say.

-- Posted by leeiii on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 6:40 PM

I am concerned that the less it is used, the less our readers will keep checking the page.

We lost some activity when the T-G asked people to be civil, but I hate to think it is not used because people thrive on that stuff.

If so, maybe I should call PITA an "egg-sucking dog". She probably would be an egg eating one if we allowed, but...

-- Posted by stevemills on Sun, Jun 5, 2011, at 5:55 PM

I have to agree Steve. I check it each time I check the headlines and only see 1-2 updates from others occassionally. And I may not comment on all, but I do read them.
