What's on your mind?

Posted Saturday, July 9, 2011, at 7:45 AM

It seems many of our bloggers have lost their "voice" and there are opinions out there just dying to be be shared, so I think I will try asking this question from time to time.

Some of my blogs have gone a bit off-topic and I think it is out of frustration that no one is talking about topics important to them.

If you get conversation, I will open a blog under that topic. If it gets TOOOO carried away or ends up calling names and getting too personal, we'll shut it down and try again.

Sooo... here you are. What's your topic?

Where are the lightening bugs this summer, Steve? Aren't they usually everywhere by now? I don't think I've seen any this summer.

-- Posted by welkindance on Sat, Jul 9, 2011, at 8:01 AM

I've noticed the same thing we have a few in the evenings, my pug would sit for hours on the porch and watch the lighting bugs last year, now there aren't enough of then to hold her attention this summer.

Good observation. They should have been out in force by now. I thought it might have just been our part of the space-time continuum but apparently not.

It has been noticed three years ago in other parts of the country and the environment seem to be the best answer. Not global warming, but pollution, human "progress" and pesticides.

In some locations they think they are starting to see an increase again, so lets hope for the best. I have fond memories of them as a child, although I can't say I was the best steward of the environment (or them)back then.

I collected my fair share.

Here is a site that discusses them in more depth. I have not had a chance to peruse it but it looks good. By the way, they are know by another name in other places. http://www.firefly.org/

What are some of your favorite family activities in the Shelbyville area?

-- Posted by quietmike on Sat, Jul 9, 2011, at 10:25 AM

We have a few lightening bugs, but not many. Last year the kids spent every night out catching them - but this year maybe once a week.

~~~~~~
Here's a question, and I hope it doesn't start any fights but, do you think the US will end up like Greece and other countries within the next year or so??
-- Posted by PrpleHze on Sun, Jul 10, 2011, at 5:57 PM
Both will have their own post. Actually, the question about family activities might get interesting as well.
-- Posted by stevemills on Sun, Jul 10, 2011, at 7:20 PM
Don't be disappointed if they do not get lively discussion right away. Folks have seen the blog area quiet down and we need to get them involved again.
I appreciate your thoughts and if you know some folks who should be commenting, WAKE THEM UP!
Something that seems to light up the boards is always something to do with the Muslims and Somalians in this area as well as anything having to do with the homeschool situation.
Or maybe a question about how many are actually driving the speed limit on 231 since it was lowered down to 50mph?
-- Posted by PrpleHze on Mon, Jul 11, 2011, at 10:38 AM
PrpleHze, on the lighter side, I do the speed limit on 231 just to get mean looks form others who want to drive faster. That doesn't bother me, because I don't need the traffic ticket, increase in my car insurance nor anything else associated with a fine.
I thought the deal was to decrease the speed limit only in front of the Hospital. It's almost 50 MPH from Bell Buckle hwy (82) all the way to the first red light.
I l@@k for the troopers to start pulling people over and fining them in a week or two. They usually give people a couple weeks to adjust then all hell breaks loose on fines for Speeding, DUI, Texting, Seat Belts and suspended or revoked Licenses.
And now if it is in affect this summer, they may take your cell phone if you have it on the front seat by you. Not sure where that is going yet?
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Mon, Jul 11, 2011, at 2:26 PM
Your other question is YES! Most people don't even want to talk about it because they see it coming.
The Muslim Brotherhood has taken over Egypt and moving on to Greece.
The United States is talking to the Muslin Brotherhood and working to bring them to America. Congress has no knowledge of how to fight the Muslim Brotherhood when they get here.
The Christian Churches are meeting the Muslims half way by creating a new False Religion called Chrislam.
When this happens it will just be a matter of time before we will have no say so in this Country.
You must watch the United Nations and what Obama does with them. The UN (IS) the One World Law and Shariah Law is being pushed on the United Nations.
If the United Nations accepts the Shariah law (Blasphemy Law) it will be LAW in EVER Country including Our USA.
Watch what the European Union does and says about the UN. Tony Blair of Great Brittan is siding with the Muslims and United Nations. It is just a matter of time before the USA joins Great Brittan.
Pres. Obama is against Isreal and Obama is the one man put in office to get the peace treaty signed between Israel and Palestine (which is a Muslim Country).
Israel is the only country trying to prevent the Muslim takeover.
President Obama has turned our Great Country into a Bankrupt Third World Country. And he isn't through spending yet. Obama wants a new higher spending ceiling or he is propsed to raise Taxes on everyone or take it out of Soc. Sec..
It may not happen in the nest year or two, but it is coming. The mere fact that it is even being considered is a crime against our country and its people.
Need I say more?
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Mon, Jul 11, 2011, at 3:04 PM
I do the speed limit, since I was pulled over last week or so for doing 65 because I didn't notice that the speed limit had changed. All I got was a warning, thankfully.
As for the US becoming a Bankrupt Third World Country - I couldn't agree more. The only way we are going to survive is to cut some of the entitlement programs. People have relied on this country to provide them with everything for way too long. As I grew up learning and I have taught my children: If you can pay for it with cash; you don't need it. This country pays out more than it gets in revenue thanks to freeloaders and abusers on food stamps, receiving SSI checks and so on. The abuse of the system has gone on and no one seems to care to stop it. I understand that there are many people who need help, BUT if you are able to work - you have transportation, able to communicate, and move in any way - then you can work and do not need SSI. There are people who get SSI checks because they are overweight, released from prison, junkies, etc. These are people who do not need to be taking our tax money and wasting it.
I am not a christian, but I agree that it seems that the US does not care to stop any form of terrorist such as the Muslims/Islamic. I believe in freedom to practice whatever religion you want. BUT if it harms one or many, then it should no longer be protected. I remember watching Glenn Beck months ago and he was laying out the background of Obama and stated that some of the people that Obama surrounds himself with are wanting the One World Ruler and the first agenda is to crash every money market and build it over. Connecting everyone with the same denomination of money and putting everyone on a level playing field. Then the Ruler of the World could save everyone basically. Everyday I see them becoming a possible reality. With Greece, Portugal, Italy and the US failing, what is to come?
-- Posted by PrpleHze on Mon, Jul 11, 2011, at 3:50 PM
PrpleHze,
If you watched Glenn Beck, then you pretty well know what is going to happen. Most people disagree with Beck, saying that is just Fox News, but if you watched his show and watched the world turn... you know he's right.
I watched the Bill Way show on TV Thursday night and heard him talking about the NAFTA Super Highway. He spoke of the Mexican Truckers were going to be allowed to drive right into America without any interference from the law or inspectors etc.
That was the first time I had heard anyone speak of the NAFTA Super Highway since I reported on it last year.
I spent hours trying to find a photo of the New NAFTA Superhighway. The websites have been deleted or moved to unknown sites. It is 5 football fields wide with 3 lanes of cars traveling north, 3 lanes for cars traveling south, 2 lanes for truckers traveling north and 2 lanes for truckers traveling south with two rail tracks for high speed passenger trains and another two rails for freight trains, plus land for burying Gas lines, electrical lines and all utility services.
It would be a Toll road for passenger cars and a truck route for Mexican truckers taking products to Canada and points in between.
What I did find thou, was while I was searching for photos of this NAFTA Super Highway was it was all Linked to the North American Union. I also reported on that story last year.
It seems that this NAFTA Super Highway has already been started in Mexico and Texas and even in Canada. In my search I discovered that the first Mexican truck authorized by a Bush administration program opening U.S. highways to trucking companies from south of the border crossed into the U.S. on Feb 22, 2007. It is not going to happen, it has already taken place.
The government ceremony in Mexico went virtually unreported in the U.S. media. We were never told about it when it happened.
The NAFTA Super Highway is Now NASCO (North America's Corridor Coalition, Inc.
The North American Union is geared for 2016 - 2050, so we have a little time before we lose our Congress and the U.S. Constitution and laws of the United States. At that time we will come under the laws of the United Nations.
FINALLY, it isn't the poor and lazy people who are freeloading that is causing the problem. Althou the total may be high that is paid to the poor, It is President Obama's drive to destroy America and the American people by spending money we don't have.
Congress has to print up money just to pay on Obama's debt he created. MAINLY, it is the rich FREELOADERS who are getting more money than you've ever made in a year's time that is running up the deficit and the big Corporations who get Billions in bonuses from the Government at tax time.
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Mon, Jul 11, 2011, at 7:50 PM
Don't even get me started on the change of speed limit on 231. 50 mph? Give me a break! I never saw that coming...pretty soon, all the way to Murfreesboro. What a speed trap! Ack!
-- Posted by espoontoon on Tue, Jul 12, 2011, at 7:36 AM
I predicted last year that before the beast and Anti-christ take over the world, all the Amusement Parks would be shut down.
Well, did you see over the weekend that the big Amusement parks are in trouble? Places like Disney Land and Disney World have to raise their Adult fairs to stay open. Obama's lies that the economy is doing better has misled people into thinking it's better, but in real life it tells us differently.
They aren't shutting down just yet, but looks like it is coming to that, because who can afford the higher prices? You have to consider the higher prices of getting there and the high prices of staying there for a day or two.
And I might add, the price of Gas just went up $ .50 in Bell Buckle yesterday.
It's coming but it will take a little time.
Let's just sit back and watch and see if the Big Amusement Theme Parks can survive this inflation.
I must also comment on another news story yesterday. It appears that since Glenn Beck has been removed from FOX TV, the owner of FOX is under scrutiny.
The government controlled Media is getting excited about FOX maybe getting taken off the air. (A BIG Mistake) Americans don't like FOX because FOX tells it like it is.
No one can sit back and say Glenn Beck was a liar, if they watch the news and understand it.
FOX isn't under the Governments thumb like the others. The Government must quiet Fox to overthrow and control the people.
I don't understand it Steve, There are many things to blog about. The Times Gazette blogging rules must be too strict.
Here's one to get people all hot and bothered!
BABY MUTILATION:
Everyone wants to stop abortions in this country but they aren't saying anything about the doctors who are giving pregnant women anti-depressant drugs that cause birth defects in new born babies.
Who is worse, doctors who kill babies before they are born or your family Health care provider who mutilates the fetus inside the mother's womb with anti-depressants, for the sake of energizing or psychic energizing the mother's brain?
Should we go after all those health care providers also?
Maybe we should open up "Planned Psychic Energizing for the Women of America to help them deal with Child Birth Defeat Pregnancies and the Doctor who Mutilated their Child" Clinics?
Let's see, that would be the "PPEWOA2HDWCBDP/DWMC" Clinic.
Or it could be called the "Health Care Provider/Mutilation Center of America" for short.
What am I talking about? They already have a name for it. It's called Doctor's Office.
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Wed, Jul 13, 2011, at 12:15 PM
Well, that one didn't get a response. Too close to home to comment on.
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Tue, Jul 19, 2011, at 11:53 AM
Okay, here is another one!
Everyone may or may not know about this one, but could bring a couple responses.
When you go to your health care provider your information will be entered into your Health care Provider's computer. If not right now, it will be in the very near future.
All doctors are learning about a new way of keeping Patient's medical history online, so any doctor or hospital or clinic can access this information no matter where you are visiting or admitted.
The thing is it will also contain all your other history and information you have been trying to protect at all costs.
Example, any government agency would be able to access your medical history anytime they wanted to so no more Doctor Patient confidentiality.
It would also allow any doctor, nurse, intern, receptionist or a friend of a receptionist to get access to your private medical and personal information history.
The only person who would not be able to access this information would be the spouse, unless they had a friend who had access to a medical computer with this new Patient History/Record Keeping program.
This could prove to be worse than the FBI Wire Tapping.
We have no privacy anymore.
I'll post this one about private information.
How does everyone feel about the notion of the government being able to take your child away if they are overweight?
I think that this is something that seriously scares me because this is just another way that the government is trying to take over our lives. There are some children who are obese and it is no fault of their own. But there are children who are obese because the parents do not understand that children can not eat all of the American fast-food without cruel results. And parents no longer go outside and exercise or play with their children. Now, everyone stays inside stuck to the TV or video games or cell phones. My children and I eat out once every 3-4 months. And they play outside, depending on the weather, at least everyday. Not counting their exercising that I require during our homeschool.
Every other commercial on TV is for some kind of junk food - McDonald's, Snickers, Burger King, Skittles. No wonder the American people are hooked on fast food and junk food - it's thrown in our faces every minute of the day.
The Brat Ban Movement
What do you think about this new movement of banning kids from places such as the theaters, restaurants, airplanes, and even grocery stores?
-- Posted by PrpleHze on Tue, Jul 26, 2011, at 9:17 PM
It IS a form of denying us our rights, but some parents just don't understand the principles of a couple wanting to enjoy a quiet Romantic dinner without these kids pushing against the back of their chair or screaming and crying while they are trying to enjoy their meal.
I raised 6 kids and we didn't go to nice restaurants or movie theaters unless we had a baby sitter. Of course when we were on the road traveling we stopped at fast food places to keep from annoying people with our children.
I only wished other families could do the same.
We had drive-in-theaters back then, so that made it a little different. People could park somewhere else besides next to us.
A lot of parents today have no control over their kids and make others suffer for their ignorance.
To protect the rights of diners, shoppers and etc, the States have to pass laws for their protection.
They passed laws forbidding the people who smoke from smoking in public places, even the bars, for the safety of the other people.
Now if we can just get the State to keep the drunks home and off the streets and in public places where they start fights and kill people and don't even know it.
If people would just use their head for something besides plugging holes in the ground or in their backside, they could prevent gov from taking our rights away.
The nonsmokers wanted the laws to prevent smokers from ruining their evenings, so now it's their turn and they have to give up their rights or bringing their kids out to dinner or theaters and who knows what else. Who will be next?
When you signed your name on your Marriage License, you gave the State jurisdiction over you, your spouse and your children to do whatever they want to.
You unknowingly signed a contract with the State making them a third member of your marriage and your family. You can't get a divorce without their say so and conditions. It's whatever the State demands, not what YOU want. You don't own your children, the State does.
Now I am not saying all children are rude and annoying, but I do know how even the best child can get carried away at the least expected moment.
This is a good example of how our system works. If enough people complain to the right people, the Legislators do listen and will pass laws.
In most cases though, it benefits the State jurisdiction more than your rights. They do not mind removing all the rights you want to complain about because it then gives the State those rights.
10th Amendment
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
When the people wish to give their rights away to the States because then are unhappy with other people, they lose their rights also and the Constitution no longer prohibits the States from denying you your newly lost right to Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness.
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Thu, Jul 28, 2011, at 1:40 PM
I understand the view of trying to enjoy something without screaming kids or disrespectful kids. The problem is that not all children are that way. I have 3 and I have taken them to the theaters, restaurants,etc when they were younger and never had any problems.
But you know when you go to the stores there are always parents who spoil their kids and then you hear the kids screaming and crying because they want something and the parents actually said no. But you, as a visitor to the store, just ignore it and go on. Even before I had kids, I swore that I would never let my kids act that way. And since I raised them correctly, they have never acted that way. So I don't see the problem of allowing children in certain places as long as they are respectful and can behave. But we have witness a woman bringing a new born baby to a theater to try and watch a movie. The problem was that we were all watching Resident Evil Afterlife. So there are going to be scary scenes and loud crashes,etc. Which of course the baby started screaming about 20 minutes into the movie.
But I do not think that a law should be placed to state that kids are not allowed certain places. I do think that it should be up to the owner of the restaurant,etc. But it should also be judged by cases and not grouped together.
As for the signing of the marriage and "getting permission" to divorce. I know that all too well. I regretted getting married the day after I did. But I couldn't get it annulled since we already had kids together. And since TN is a state that requires counseling and other bs, I haven't been able to afford to get a divorce yet. Maybe someday.
As for smokers, I am one who likes the separation of smokers and non. Because my youngest has pretty bad asthma and so she cannot be around smokers. But on the other hand, before my children were born, I was a smoker. So I can see both sides of the fence. But when I did smoke, I didn't do it around any children (which I see parents doing it everyday - not realizing how they are killing their children).
-- Posted by PrpleHze on Fri, Jul 29, 2011, at 10:00 AM
I will say one thing for you PrpleHze, you seem to be a very Unique person from what I can read.
Here is something to think about.
The law of our land is Common Law. It is the Supreme law or Constitutional law. All laws in the United States must be enacted in compliance with the Constitution.
If you were born in any of the 50 states and not on a Federal land in that state, like a military base or National park and your parents are not 14th Amendment citizens - you can rescind your signature on any legal document that you did not sign willfully knowing full well what the circumstances were and the consequences were at the time you signed that document.
i.e. You did not know the State had any control over your marriage because of you signing that marriage license.
You were tricked into giving the State jurisdiction over your marriage and your children.
"Waivers of Constitutional Rights, not only must be voluntary, they must be knowingly intelligent acts, done with sufficient awareness of the relevant circumstances and consequences." Brady v. U.S. 397 U.S. 742 at 748 (1970)
Another solution is to have a Common Law Marriage. That way the State has nothing to do with it because you don't sign any legal papers making the State a third party. Your marriage is your marriage and is between you, your spouse and God.
God recognizes a Common Law Marriage because he gave you Inalienable Rights to do whatever you want to without government interference as long as you don't injure anyone or violate their God given Rights.
As for regulations requiring couples to attend classes if they have children goes... I think it is good for the children, but also have to say it is government interference and unconstitutional, but it must be fought in a court to win your right back.
If you rescind your signature on your marriage license, you are no longer married, but the State may be able to ward the children over to the other parent who didn't rescind his signature.
When you rescind your signature on your marriage license you are no longer married, however your signature on your drivers license or bank account or some other account has secretly assigned you a STRAWMAN that the courts can use to connect you with their defacto laws giving them jurisdiction over you in any case they want to bring against you.
Once we get ourselves weaved into the system by signing our name to something, it is too complicated to get out of it without cutting ALL ties. Our Government is very Tricky and Sneaky.
Rather than spiraling into a global warming meltdown, we may be heading into the next ice age.
Wouldn't you think someone who works for the T-G would post a blog on the raising of the debt ceiling. It seems to be the most important thing going on this week, but...?
Another thing I would like to see is a follow up on the By Pass around Shelbyville.
Is it still on schedule or was it up in July? How far along are they and when will it be finished. How many lanes are there on the By Pass, 4 or just your standard 2 lane traffic. Will it have a divided highway like most By Passes have in big Cities?
How about an Aerial View of this City Council's Commercial destroying project?
DO I have to rent a Helicopter for $25/hr to go up and L@@k at it for myself?
Is it still covered in the Budget or did that run out a long time ago? How is this new "flooding of American currency" into the Market (just under $17 Trillion now) going to effect it's progress?
John Carney
We've reported on the bypass several times recently -- July 7 and July 18, to cite two examples -- and the last word is that it's scheduled to open in the middle of the month. I think we have another photo in today's paper repeating that projection.
We've also reported several times that the bypass is two lanes, and that's also pretty easy to observe for yourself as you drive past the intersections on 41-A and 64.
The bypass is a state project, but a variety of local leaders have been asking for it for decades.
I can't speak for my co-workers or the newspaper, but I didn't blog about the debt ceiling because there's not really that much I have to add to the debate. That's a complex issue, and the last thing we need are more people shooting from the hip just for partisan purposes or because they love the sound of their own voices. I'm sure you can find writers with meaningful commentary or analysis of the issue, or online discussions in which you can get involved.
I'm sure that, as we move forward, the various cuts and compromises will have local impacts, and it will be part of our job as a locally-focused newspaper to cover those.
I like the scroll thingy. All this "computering" and my eyes get pretty tired.
-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Aug 3, 2011, at 6:47 AM
Thank you Mr Carney. Your comment is very helpful and informative. I will have to go buy a paper tonight to look at the photo. I have been on both ends but that doesn't show me much. The Bridge over 231 appears to be a four lane to me if I remember right. Haven't given much thought to the bypass with the new speed limit north of Shelbyville.
I would think that a 2 lane bypass around the city would be obsolete by the time they finished building it. County growth would suggest a 4 lane bypass. Everyone can see what the 4 lane main street needs - another 4 lanes, lol.
The main thing I am hoping for is that they get all their underground stuff right before they pave it. It seems to me that roads are no sooner paved or repaved than they have to dig a hole in the middle of it, ruining the whole purpose of the road. It then becomes a vehicle front end and tire destroyer. But that is just my 2 cents.
Thank you again for the personal update.
My last word on the couponing is this. There are secrets to using coupons and not everyone is going to know them. Coupons can and will save you money if you use them but you can get some things free or almost free if you know the secrets and have the time to put into it.
My last trip was half and half.
I went to CVS to buy a razor that would cost $5.99 but I would get an extra bucks reward for $5. making the razor only cost $.99.
I was then going to buy a Bic razor which sold for $5.99 which would have been free if they had one. They were all gone on the second day of the sale. So I left with a $5 extra bucks reward receipt and a $.99 razor.
I then went to Walgreens and purchased 4 jars of Skippy Peanut Butter 16.3 oz. on sell for 2 for $4 or $2 each. I used 4 $.75 coupons and paid only $1.25 for each jar. What all the other stores were selling one jar for I got 4 jars for app. the same price or $5 for all 4 jars plus tax of course.
Then I went to Walmarts. At walmarts I bought a All You Magazine with a 10% off coupon for just $1.88 plus tax and I also was going to buy 4 bottles of Dawn Dishwashing liquid (14 oz) selling for $.97 each. I had 4 coupons for $.50 off. That would have made each bottle only $.47. Walmart, the super store in Shelbyville only had two bottles. So I walked out with only two bottle which cost em $.47 instead of 4 which was the limit.
How did the super store run out when there was a limit of 4 bottle per visit?
I did not go back kroger to check out their price, but if they sold the same size bottle of Dawn, it could have been free if Kroger doubled the $.50 coupon.
And last I stopped at the Dollar General on the highway. I used 5 $4 off coupons for airwick Ultra starter kit which cost $4 each. Needless to say all 5 were absolutely FREE. I only paid the tax. I also bought 4 bags of Bugles. I had $.50 coupons and the bugles were on sale for $1.00. This time I walked out of the store with 4 bags of Bugles and 5 Air Wick Ultra starter kits and paid only $2 plus tax, a total savings of $22.00.
As I said earlier, if the stores will keep their shelves stocked with items they are having sales on, they could make money and we could save money.
Extreme Couponing like the show doesn't work that way. They had special deals and privileges during the showing of the TLC show. Those privileges don't exist today in the stores and the stores are putting limits on items and raising their prices during the sales.
You can save money and you can get some thing for free but most of the free things are not what you want or need, You have to consider your out of pocket expense when buying something and when do you get it back.
To each it's own!
The End
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Wed, Aug 3, 2011, at 12:32 PM
After looking at the photo of the bypass, I am assuming that is the east end of the bypass on 64.
I couldn't help but notice the speed limit sign that read 55 MPH.
We can't do 55 MPH on a State 4 lane divided Highway but we will be allowed to fly around the city Businesses at a super speed and unsafe speed according to many of 55 MPH? Go figure!
Now I have started another blog about the posted speed limit sign on the 2 lane Bypass. We have to slow down coming to Shelbyville from Murfreesboro but if we take the Bypass we can zoom on the Bypass at the 55 MPH? Really!
I think that 55 MPH speed sign is for the last 1000 meters from the exit entrance. It is so close to the end/beginning of the Bypass that it goes from 25 MPH ramp speed to 55 withing viewing distance.
Why do the City Planners have so much trouble planning things in Shelbyville? Is this their way to make up for the 50 MPH speed Zone on 231 of just a mistake by the county or state sign crew?
Hey, gotta blame the stupidity on someone.
That was fun!
-- Posted by Unique-Lies on Wed, Aug 3, 2011, at 5:33 PM
I am not sure the local folks have much to do about the speed. They can request but the State makes the decision.
We made a request in Bell Buckle some years back and the State over-reacted. It took a while to get that modified.
I don't have a problem with a 55 MPH speed limit but for a 2 lane going in and around town, I was just wondering what gives. Hope they keep it 55, but with red lights and intersection I doubt it will last long.
