A magazine called Garden & Gun ?? What is that all about?Posted Friday, September 23, 2011, at 8:46 AM
Your first thought might be, "well that sounds like a perfect magazine for good old boys and girls" LOL.
Well guess what? It IS written for folks in the South! I had never heard of it until a trade newsletter mentioned that the 4 year old magazine was putting out the "Largest Advertising Issue Ever"! In today's environment and the internet supposedly making print obsolete, that is a breath of fresh Southern air. But Garden & Gun? Yup, and while in the first two issues I perused I did not see guns mentioned, it did mention fishing, gardens, highlighted Southern towns and cities, reviewed some books, fashion, movies, music, dogs and tongue in cheek humor, articles and cartoons that can't help but bring a smile. In July they highlighted the heirloom "Cherokee" tomato. Sound interesting Cheroke2 ? Sounds like one both sexes could enjoy while learning something about interests for the other side. Steve Mills and his wife have one daughter and live on a farm outside of Bell Buckle. They previously owned two coffee/ice cream shops, currently operate an internet sales company and teach classes, but his primary job involves the paper industry worldwide. Hobbies and interests lie in gardening, photography, recorded music and of course, their pets.

Did you not bring some samples to Weed'em and Reap? I think I saved some seeds before the slices were consumed.
Steve, I grew some of the Cherokee Purples this year and they were very good. I recommend them highly.
By the way, I can edit the original blog post, so I corrected it. It was reversed before then.

What did you think of it?
I have seen 2 issues of Garden and Gun. Both were at the same hair salon but years apart. The last was just a couple of months ago. I wonder if it was the same issue still there.

With all the bunnies that peruse my backyard, I may have to get a gun to protect my garden, haha!

I guess those things are too expensive to print anymore. Not sure what those who don't own computers/internet are going to do for reading in the years to come. There are still plenty of those out there but.....
InfoMania, a comedy show on one of the cable channels which was cancelled earlier this summer, used to have a segment called "How The Heck Is This A Magazine?" (I think they actually used a bleeped-out profanity instead of "heck"), and every week they would find some really obscure niche publication. Some of them were pretty funny.
