Uh-oh, the shopping cart link has shown up on our home eBay page.

I say uh-oh since the jury is still out about how well this will work. We have not had a purchase that used it, to our knowledge, but it is only a matter of time now.

Anyone with experience locally?

So far, everyone on my discussion boards is holding their breath on this. Few have experienced it and the general opinion is that it will complicate their lives.

Anyone feel differently?

Do you normally use a third party checkout? I have had buyers using ebays shopping cart for several months now. The only difference that I can tell is that it does not have a hot link to the item, or explain the shipping charge (if you provide a shipping choice).

What I have noticed is the addition of large (1/3 of the page) frames to search pages. The ones on active items do not bother me much, but the completed items search is extremely difficult with it. Have you had these? I have one friend who has and another friend who has not. It must be random.

Shopping cart was random but I think it is moving into full 'roll-out'.

We have NOT experienced it yet as a seller or buyer. I loaded mine with a few things and then removed them to see what it looked like, but never to completion.

A link from the cart to individual listings would seem to be a good idea. You can stage these items in there for a while so it is conceivable you would need to be "refreshed " on what it is or seller details.

I have also not run across them in completed search. Not sure why they would look different so I appreciate the 'heads up' and will try to look for some.

My concern is the customer rating their experience with us, based on their experience in the cart system all together.

If they do not get one of the items in a timely fashion, will they remember which seller failed or will they judge everyone the same?

I did not notice a clear statement from eBay that explains that an item is NOT sold or reserved when they put it in a cart, so a 'one of a kind' item could easily not be available when they go to check out.

Do they blame themselves for waiting or accuse the seller of not having the item, or reneging on the sale?

In general, I am not looking forward to this method of aggregating items. eBay sellers are all individual and transactions need to be the same. Just my opinion, of course.

I'm sorry. I may not have been clear enough. The only experience that I have had with it is as a seller, and even then only on the paypal payment page. That is where there is not a link or shipping charge specification. That is where I still do my labels (by hand). I have not been extremely embracing of, or adaptive to, ebay's continuous evolution.

The frames I am referring to do not involve the shopping cart, but on active searches, the right 1/3 of the screen pops up listing specifics of whatever item you either scroll to, or the first item of the page. On completed searches, the left of the screen just goes grey, obscuring pictures and titles. Thankfully, mine stopped doing it today. Maybe it was a glitch, but I imagine it will be part of a new feature eventually.

I agree with you about seller autonomy. Unfortunately, ebay may have finally raised the bar for sellers so high that we will occasionally get backlash from problems that we did not even create.
