  • Now that the year is starting again, let's make a concerted effort to bring a friend. I may not have any that will fess up to it, but in that case, I'll just try to bring a person.

Debbi's Mother made a nice soup tonight and two of the ingredients were straight out of the garden. Cilantro and garlic. The garlic is still like young onions, but the taste is still there.

We talked about throwing in some garlic chives but Mrs. Lee was concerned it might be too much. Nah, we should have added it, plus some watercress. Maybe for warm-ups.

  • I thought I had another week for photos of the corner on the square for a garden. Are we still on for a discussion regarding the issue? Let me know and I will get shots in the AM since I am now in for the day.

  • Arrrgh, I hit the wrong button and wiped out a several paragraph post.

Anyway, we had a good meeting last night. The restaurant was unusually busy but no one knew a specific reason. One member thought it was an anti Friday the 13th rally.

While talking about container gardening and winter sowing, Pamela brought up her Cream Sausage tomato that was determinate for container growing. She must have been doing something it liked because it grew MUCH larger than she expected.

Since several of us did not know the name we went to the site she bought it from, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. http://rareseeds.com/cream-sausage-tomato.html

Apparently first introduced in 2008 by Baker Creek, it is a mild paste tomato and received pretty good reviews for taste and unique color.

Maybe an aphid attractor and we forgot to ask Pamela if she notice the problem.

    What say ye Pamela?

  • Speaking of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, I've known of them for about 12-13 years now and always got a warm, friendly feeling from any dealings with them.

At first I must admit, I thought he would be a "flash in the pan" because he was sooo nice, that I thought he would not be "business" enough. I am pleased to be wrong.

If you want to learn more, go to http://rareseeds.com/about/ and then browse the site. Nice, really nice.

  • A nice site-I like what they have done, but please warn everyone that when they go to the link , a loud song continually plays with no way to stop it. Very annoying...

  • Several pages have different songs. You mean you don't find yourself humming that afterwards? :-)

Your volume keys or mute will kill it, but you are right, any site that has music or sound usually jolts me since I am not expecting it.
