Can someone help me understand botnets, spam, etc.?Posted Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at 7:34 AM
I know what spam is and as I understand it, botnets are networks of infected computers that robotically send out spam and malicious stuff.
If that is correct and let's say my computer is sending out garbage, how does sending a reply tell the network it is a live e-mail address?
Also, why can I not send an e-mail back to the &*(* computer that sent me the junk informing them they are infected? I would assume the next step would be to get their computer fixed, but...
If all that could happen, would it cripple the blankity blank spammers and virus deviants?
