CORRECTION Garden club Weed'em & Reap meeting this Friday March 9th. CORRECTION

Posted Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 12:59 PM

I was just reminded that we were going to try to meet on the Square if it was not raining so we could discuss the garden area!!! Let's meet at 6:00 on the square and then can drop by the restaurant?

We have another garden club meeting coming up this coming Friday March 9th at the New Century Restaurant on Madison Street in Shelbyville. We start drifitn in around 6:30 and usually finish by 8:30.

We are going to have a 20-30 minute presentation on organic gardening this week and that should start around 7:00 so if you are planning to eat, come a little earlier so you can fill up the plate.

Some people relate organic and sustainable gardening as being the same. Organic is sustainable but sustainable does not necessarily mean it is all organic.

Likewise, among organic enthusiasts there are some who do not believe in using any type of non-specific insecticide while other might use pyrethrum derived from various chrysanthemum plants or rotenone which comes from the Lonchocarpus and Derris species. These two will kill honey bee or most other harmful insects.

I guess it could be similar to the differences between vegan or vegetarians. I am not sure of all the differences but one will eat eggs or cheese, while another won't. Is that correct?

I am not aware of terminology that defines the organic differences.

On a side note, we have a member who has a whole garden full of tulip bulbs she is trying to give away before the tiller comes to chew them up.

If you are interested, contact me at Steve@bedfordtradingpost.com and I will put you in touch. I know about 5 people have taken her up so far and the garden club will probably pick some up for our work on the square, but she says there are plenty.

What happened to our meeting at the Square? Are we doing both?

First one than the other ?

What about the meeting on the Square? We can always go someplace on the Square to sit, eat our sack dinners, and hear the organic presentation.

Espoontoon,

On another side note, would you like some Peter Pepper seeds? ...or would you rather I start them for you and bring you some plants? ...hope to see you at the meeting - where ever it may be held. :o)

OK, OK, OK. I goofed. We are still on for the Square and the organic thing can be postponed since I was the one doing it. :-)

The problem is that the newspaper will say the restaurant so we better call a few that we know use the paper.

espoontoon, does that mean we will see you? :-)

At least I know you folks are still reading the blog. :-)

Lot of smiley faces on this post, huh.

wildflower727,

Seeds would be great! Of course if you want to grow them and just give me the peppers, it would cut out the middle bugs haha!

jbillswms thanks. I did not put her number into my phone and I never have the computer booted up when I think of calling her. My bad. :-(
