We started off at what is being termed the "Pocket Gardens" on the Square. As expected we took a big bite of garden space which will require some serious committment.
Basically we have accepted the challenge for the North wall from the gazebo to the back wall. After discussing possibilities we retired to the restaurant for a 'sit-down' discussion in a nice warm meeting room. ( I was getting chilly last night on the Square)
We decided on a water feature at the back corner that will consist of a water fall into a disappearing collection base so we do not have to worry about kids wanting to wade, etc. It should also be low maintenance except to refill the water when water the plants.
This feature will lend itself to rock garden plantings but they need to plan on heat tolerant because this will be protected by two brick walls and receive afternoon sun so, it will get warm. We plan on this warmth carrying some tender bulb plants through the winters so we will experiment.
From there we discussed plants for a butterfly area, hummingbird, decorative grasses. some native plants and perennials bushes. A winding walking path will separate an island herb garden with an emphasis on aromatic herbs so visitors can rub the plants to enjoy the aromas.
We will also need to get one or two benches so folks can sit and enjoy the sounds of the water falls, the bees, butterflies, hopefully some hummingbirds and maybe some other natural visitors like toads.
Others feel free to chime in or make suggestions.
