That's it! That is all that is on your mind?

Posted Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at 1:52 PM

Last week I offered to open the topics up for discussion and usually I get a few good topics but is everyone asleep or....?

No one is concerned about politics? Everyone is happy with the way thins are going for them?

How about something GOOD going on?

We had a good flurry about Publix possibly coming to town, but that's it?

I am almost ready for some political rant or conspiracy theory. Almost, don't get your hopes up yet. :-)

Google (or the government) blocks out sensitive areas now, but I doubt we get the same ability. :-)

I just don't like the idea of the detailed "surveillance" photos. Why would you need a 3D model of a high rise building? If you are looking for directions, you are not really going to drive all around the building to get there.

I have used the google maps, during our recent trip to a tiny town in KY. It really did help in making sure we turned onto the right roads.

But I don't see the point of the maps documenting people's backyards, etc. As for planes flying over, I am used to it. But what you see in the back yard is not (normally) posted on the internet for the world to see.

The only use that I can think of, that someone could really use detailed maps (on FoxNews, they stated that you would be able to scroll in as close as 4 inches instead of like now) is if you were a criminal or terrorist.

If an individual did that they would be trespassing, invading privacy, etc. so I can't help but think someone will make some good money off this.

Have you heard about the new Google and Apple maps that are coming out? They are no longer stopping in front of your house to take the pictures, that are already on Google maps. Instead, they are using planes and are taking the pictures of your whole property. I personally think that this is an invasion of privacy. Some of us put up fencing so we can have privacy and walk around our backyards as we please without having to worry about nosey neighbors. But Google and Apple are putting an end to that.

Google has had satellite view on Google Maps and Google Earth for some time; it's nothing new. They purchased the imagery of Bedford County from the USDA's Farm Service Agency. It's not really great enough detail to be much of an invasion of privacy. In order to show up in the photo, you'd have to be outdoors at the very moment they passed over taking the photography, which doesn't happen very often in a smaller, rural area like ours. We have a general aviation airport in Shelbyville, which means small aircraft fly over the county all the time.

The only new thing is that they're flying over some major cities at a lower level to get 3-D imagery for a "fly-by" view in Google Maps. http://gpsobsessed.com/google-aerial-ima.... Because the purpose of this is flying past the distinctive buildings, I doubt they'll be giving this treatment to rural small towns or farmland any time soon.

It is to keep any of the crawling insects from getting into the garden.

Beth, I presume the Sevin perimeter is to discourage or prevent creepy, crawly bugs from entering or is there something more specific?

Unique Lies, the American people have turned into blind sheep because they tend to believe everything that is told to them instead of using their brain to think for themselves. If our so-called president would do the job that some people hired him to do, which was uphold the constitution then the US would be in a better state. If the millions of illegal aliens aka terrorists who are invading our country, taking jobs, abusing the system, committing crimes and so on, were deported there would be plenty of jobs for the American people.

But, out president does not believe in deporting illegal aliens or defending or helping the American people. His plan is to bring the US down. Other countries have already stated that they can longer buy anymore of the US debt. And if the treasury department prints any more money, well, that is going to make it surely worst than it is now.

As for what is happening in public schools, it wouldn't really surprise me that if they started teaching arabic as well. I no longer care what goes on in the American public schools. My children will never attend one again until they are ready for college.

We have actually had a great year on our garden. We were able to grow 2 rounds of lettuce and spinach. Our corn and tomatoes and growing really well now. I planted them back in Feb (since we didn't have a winter) in a planting tray and then transferred them to the ground in April. I don't use any mulch or any chemicals and just use water from the watering hose. The only chemicals that I have ever used in my yard is the Seven dust that I sprinkle about a foot away from the perimeter of the garden, but not in it.

Unique-Lies I feel your pain on growing. :-) I really dislike using city water to keeps plants growing. I have a sulfur well but it is 300 yards away and downhill so I will have to make a major commitment to revive it.

I keep saying I will collect rain water but lately, even that won't work.

The veggies are doing better this year because of a 5" layer of wood chips holding what rain does fall in the mulch and therefore the soil below but I have greatly reduced the number of plants I am growing too.

In America, the people are not under Sharia Law. The courts do not have the jurisdiction to use Sharia Law on an American. They may be able to use it against the Muslims, but not the people.

However, does everyone see the proof of what I said a year ago? Sharia Law is coming to America. Many of you said it would never happen, but if a Kansas Governor is signing bills to prevent it, well...!

The Muslim Brotherhood is trying to get the votes in Egypt so they can rule Egypt and the Egyptians are so stupid, they think they can use the Sharia Law to their advantage.

I Look around me today and I can see the PLAIN STUPIDITY or not only our President and Congress, but the government agency Leaders as well.

The scarey thing about it all, is... the American people seem to be getting just as stupid.

When 50% of our Population, after seeing the shape that our Country is in, seems to think KING Obama is doing a great job, I have to wonder what is going on in their heads. This is AFTER King Obama has spent Trillions of taxpayers Dollars to make it better.

It's not better and is getting worse by the day. And to top it off, the Government is coming up soon with another "the Government is broke and will have to shut down if it doesn't get another check to run the country", demand.

More people are going off unemployment, but not because they have found work. They aren't eligible for any more checks and can't afford to look for work. There are more students who have graduated now who need jobs compounding the unemployment rate. They aren't counted because they were never in the system yet.

But, getting back to the Muslims, The Muslim Brotherhood is offering Private Schools Millions of Dollars to help them... IF... they will teach an Arabic Language in their school. Several schools around the US have agreed or thinking about it.

This will only obligate them to the Sharia Muslim laws in their schools. That would also bring the students' parents under their Muslim laws.

As for gardening. I have given up on growing anything. It is just too hot in Tenn to grow plants naturally. I plant and let them grow or dye. I do very little watering. I have spent years watering and providing shade for them and fertilizing them and the heat kills them anyway or stunts their growth.

I have more important things not to do!

I figured, that this would be a good idea - at least for some people.

http://news.yahoo.com/kansas-governor-si...

Republican Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed a bill aimed at keeping state courts and agencies from using Islamic or other non-U.S. laws when making decisions, his office said on Friday, drawing criticism from a national Muslim group.

The law has been dubbed the "sharia bill" because critics say it targets the Islamic legal code. Sharia, or Islamic law, covers all aspects of Muslim life, including religious obligations and financial dealings. Opponents of state bans say they could nullify wills or legal contracts between Muslims.......

Thanks Beth. I'll start posting these a little at a time so they don't get lost. Hmmm, I am curious about you having too much rain so I going for that one first.

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, May 21, 2012, at 12:41 PM

Just a few more ideas:

*If the horse show is cancelled, then how much money is going to be lost here in Bedford County? Without that revenue, is it possible that our taxes are going up?

*Is anyone having problems with their gardens due to too much rain lately?

*Why society feels the need to put trash-laced TV shows on. What happened to wholesome shows instead of shows that constantly depict sex and nudity?

*Why I have to endure seeing someone's bum hanging out of their pants while I am out shopping? Why parents are no longer teaching their children how to dress properly and instead let them wear clothing that is way too small or way too low?!?

*Why the Obama's administration feels the need to stomp all over our rights of safety and refusal to deport illegals in order to get votes.

Did everyone read or hear the one about: Any American Citizen can be put in prison for a lifetime without a trial if the Government just suspects the American is a TERRORIST?

Who may be considered as a Terrorist in the Good Old USA: Anyone who is a preacher, anyone who uses the US Constitution and anyone who reads the farmers almanac is considered to be a suspected terrorist according to the FBI.

Now about Obama talking to his daughters; The King needs to explain to his wife and daughters what their life will be like after he brings the Shariah Muslin into our country!

Everyone remember me telling you that this economy would never recover?

Here is one for you people who like to look up statistics;

How many people die from cancer each year? How many from Smoking? And Heart Attack? Or Diabetes? More people die from driving accidents than all the wars put together? Yet most deaths happen close to home? What about the deaths from slipping in the bathtub? Then we have the number one killer, breast cancer? Or was it eating the wrong food? Don't forget AIDS? Remember, the Doctors kill more people than bullets.

Add all those absentee bodies up and see how many of them were employed when they died.

If I don't miss my guess, that would add up to more than 10% of the population yet it doesn't seem to change the unemployment rate.

A good average is 6862 people per day x365 days +

OVER 2.5 Million people per year.

But that doesn't effect the Unemployment rate? You bet it does. King Obama claims he produced 3 Million jobs but it would appear that 7.5 Million people passed on the past 3 years. I am sure most of them had a job of some kind when they left.

And that doesn't count the number of persons who lost their jobs, quit their jobs or businesses that failed that Obama didn't bail out.

The above statistics were average totals in 2006 and 2007. However in the past 3 years we have had several unusual disasters taking more than the average number of people each year.

The unemployment is much higher than it is reported and the cost of food is up with an increase just added. Everything costs more now that Obama has spent tax payer money on foolishness. Our money is worth less and now the Government employees are getting a $436 Million bonus when it doesn't even have enough money in it's budget to finish out the year without shutting down or getting more taxpayer money to run the Government.

And Bell Buckle is going to send letters out tell 80% of the residents to repair their sewer lines. The residents won't be getting any grants that I am aware of. That has to come out of their budgets that Obama hasn't taken with his out of control spending.

WHAT IS WRONG with that Picture?

Just something to keep everyone busy until I return.

Great questions Beth. How about the fact that I rarely come browse the online paper anymore because of their "new" pay-to-view feature?

-- Posted by neighborhood mom on Thu, May 10, 2012, at 6:27 AM

I never read any of the stories here unless it has to do with this county's hatred toward homeschooling. I don't care about the marriages, births, deaths, who was arrested for what. I have actually purchased a Gazette newspaper probably twice this year. And that was for coupons. Otherwise, I may purchase the Tennessean for the coupons and recycle the rest of the newspaper.

I do get magazines, but I have never paid for a subscription because I get them for free through different sites online that give subscriptions away. I currently get the Wall-Street Journal, Family-Fun, Martha Stewart, All You, This Old House, and more.

-- Posted by -Beth- on Sun, May 13, 2012, at 6:09 AM

Please understand, I have no problem with Obama talking to his children. Why did he feel the need to make a statement to the press that his young daughters were in agreement. I think he is playing a well orchestrated game, and the band plays on, especially with that Clooney dinner.

Btw... I also have gay friends, but I would never use them to secure my job!

-- Posted by moonwalker on Sat, May 12, 2012, at 4:27 PM

Why did Obama talk to his young children about the gay right to marry?......

-- Posted by moonwalker on Thu, May 10, 2012, at 2:42 PM

What is the problem with educating or talking with your children about everyone having the equal opportunity to marriage? I talk to my children about gays and the discrimination that they face in life. Though I do not like Obama, I think that he has done the right thing. If courts allow people to marry themselves and animals then why not allow people marry as well? It should not matter what religion you are or what your beliefs are. My friend has been with her spouse (as she consider her) for 15 years now. They are not legally married in the court sense but they had a ceremony and a hand binding. They have 3 kids, who are the most respectful and mannered kids that you could ever meet.

I knew I needed to lose weight, but yikes!

Glad I seem to have missed that. Not sure I even want to find it to understand the whole concept.:-(

-- Posted by stevemills on Fri, May 11, 2012, at 4:40 PM

moonwalker , with all the talk in the news what makes you think that his kids did not hear about it and have questions? I know my grand-kids ask a lot of questions about what they hear in the news. Should he NOT talk about theses issues?

As for right or wrong - our Constitution protects us from discrimination, the bible says do not judge, and that God will judge us. While I truely believe that marriage is a sacrament of the Bible and should be held as such, I also believe that it not our job to say who can or can not be wed. The constitution and bible both say that ............ Do not discriminate and God will judge. NOW there are more important things that the government needs to address !!! Jobs, health care, infrastructure, thing that actually make a difference to the citizens as a whole. Enough with the stupid distraction. What we do in our bedrooms is between us our partner and God, unless if harms some one. God will judge us all, we need to get our own houses in order before we try to run anothers!!! There are a lot of other sins out there that do a heck of a lot more harm to people than the sex life of others.

No Steve, I don't think the blogs are restricted, because once I get to my limit on reading articles, it will still let me look at the blogs. Like I said, I 'get' why they did it, but if I can't afford a mag subscription, I can't afford the newspaper. $10 or not. How about quit delivering the Wednesday paper to everyone. (How much would that save?!) I know many that just trash it without reading it. Some weeks that's us because we just don't have time...and it's very annoying when we don't want it. I also thought the paper limited what articles they put online originally as not all stories were in the "free" version. So, does that mean now all stories are online to read "until we reach our limit"? No. So they still are limiting what they are putting online...until you pay.

-- Posted by neighborhood mom on Thu, May 10, 2012, at 6:55 PM

Why did Obama talk to his young children about the gay right to marry? Were they sitting around the dinner table with the bible open, or is President Obama covering all bases.

The Obamas are looking at four more years, which could bring them to a White House wedding.

jmo, I think he plans to go out in blaze of glory.

neighborhood mom, PrpleHze, Beth and all others who read this blog, I appreciate your presence. PLEASE keep coming back and even better, participating.

Your comments about not being around much concern me and I will try to make it worth your while. This blog forum is not being restricted too, is it?

-- Posted by stevemills on Thu, May 10, 2012, at 10:24 AM

Some may think I work for the paper. I don't but I work with many printers and newspapers around the country. The T-G is not one of my customers.

I say this to preface my following comments. Many newspapers are hurting just like we individuals and many have closed or are closing.

Those that are surviving are supplying much needed local news, where the larger ones seem to regurgitate National or International news that is available on the internet. Those will continue to be weeded out.

To provide local news, they need people (thank goodness) but that means they need to be paid and therefore their work needs to be compensated by us, the readers and advertisers.

I have dropped all my paid subscriptions to magazines, but the local newspaper is one that I continue to support, or it won't be here. Somehow I don't think the Murfreesboro paper will cover Bedford County very well.

neighborhood mom,

I come by here every now and then just for the blog. Just like you, ever since the "pay-to-view" feature was added, I don't read any of the paper anymore. If there is something that I find interesting, then I'll go to the library and read it in the paper for free or wait until it appears on one of the other newspaper sites like DNJ or one of the news channel sites that are still free.

Gannett, which owns the DNJ and the Tennessean, has announced that it's putting in a similar paywall system at all of its papers (except USA Today) by the end of the year.

Great questions Beth. How about the fact that I rarely come browse the online paper anymore because of their "new" pay-to-view feature? Can't afford the paper or online version, but did like to catch up on some of the stories they post. But now after too many, you're welcome to sign up for the online version until the next month when the cycle starts all over. I wonder how many people have left and if their enrollment is up? I understand the "business" side, but in this community, I don't see it working. This is the 2nd blog post I've posted in in probably months. I just don't come to the website very much anymore.

-- Posted by neighborhood mom on Thu, May 10, 2012, at 6:27 AM

How about these topics:

*How the compassion of people in the USA no longer exist unless there is something that they can get in return. People are beginning to more in the state of "me, me, me" instead of "me and everyone around me".

*Why are we stuck with 2 of the worst choices in the presidential race. When (not if) Mr. Hussein wins, he will finish tearing down the US and turn us into a Socialist nation *just like France just currently became. If Romney won (which he really doesn't have much of a chance) the US will become bankrupt more than it is now.

*How the vote for the law in North Carolina is threatening the civil unions not just of homosexuals, but of heterosexuals as well. And we all know our great backward state of TN tries to blend in with the other bible belt states.

*The brain cells of many parents seem to be evaporating or dying from not using them. You have the Tanning Mom; the parent who strapped their 4 kids to the hood of their car, while they were impaired and drove with them on there; the grandparents who tied up their grandchild's toy car to their bumper of their car and drove down the road while impaired.

*Why the US ranks 25th out of 165 countries when it comes to the safe and healthy upbringing of children.

-- Posted by -Beth- on Tue, May 8, 2012, at 3:22 PM

Ever notice how many stories we see about a mother and child overcoming some challenge, but no mention of the father. Are they MIA or does the reporter just see no need to include them in the story?

-- Posted by stevemills on Tue, May 8, 2012, at 1:57 PM

I saw great YouTube about diving off the coast of New Zealand. Made we ant to get my tanks out and check out the Duck River.

Then there was the slides of a baby hippopotamus adopting a hundred year old tortoise, or maybe it was the other way around, but still....a heart warming story.
