Bell Buckle Water, what are your thoughts?Posted Friday, May 11, 2012, at 7:47 PM
There seems to be a lot of discussion about water rates in-town and out-of-town. Maybe some of you would like to speak your thoughts? Keep it to the issue and not personalities or I the post may be removed.
To make it clear, I live outside the city and therefore pay higher rates. Would I like lower rates? Sure, but I am also very glad to have the city water. Our well turned hard sulfur about 18 years ago and we are not lovers of the sulfur water. It also would make the house much harder to sell if it was dependent on a sulfur well.
From what I saw in the paper, the town could lose $100,000 from the imbalance of the costs to revenue, so the push to make in-town and out-of-town rates equal might not take the turn the out-of-towners want, but it might not please folks in-town either.
If the State says the town should have equal rates, my first thought, in light of the unequal balance of income to expenses would be to raise the in-town rates to equal out-of-town. I have in-town friends who will surely not like my bringing this up, but I am sure it is not a new thought.
The one thing the in-town residents can do that the others can't is vote in town elections, so the current office holders have to take that into consideration. Tough position to be in.
