There is something about this situation that just chokes me up.

Hopefully you get the paper or the online version. If so, you may have read this article about a new Federal law that requires the same registration, taxes, rules for a major cigarette manufacturers to apply to local stores that sell the "makings" AND provide automated equipment to roll the cigarettes for the customer.

I am not, nor ever have been a smoker. I do not like being around it, although when I was younger, it did not seem to bother me as much as it does now, BUT somehow, this law seems to bother me.

Anyone have thoughts or opinions about it?

Just another instance where federal government has waged war against small businesses and wants to increase taxes on the average American.

I agree. I don't smoke, and never have and never will. I cannot stand being near smokers since I have a child with severe asthma.

But, this administration has been going at war with small businesses. You have this bill, plus the stipulation in the health care bill that is going to hurt small businesses as well.

I think it can be inferred that Reynolds and Phillip Morris have decided that businesses like U Roll 'Em are taking a chunk of their income away, and have decided to lobby for that legislation to be included in a bill.

This is only a guess, but we've seen similar instances before. Small businesses don't contribute to campaigns like major, muli-million dollar companies can and will. It's unfortunate, but it's the way of the career politician.
