I enjoy and appreciate the internet, but.....Posted Friday, January 18, 2013, at 8:08 AM
I love the wealth of knowledge and communication on the Web. As many of you know, it has also opened up economic benefits to me but..... there comes a time when I also love coming back to the real world of physical touch, smell, taste, etc.
A garden enthusiast in a "virtual" garden group made a statement today about how much she appreciated some subscriptions she got from her sons for Christmas and that got me to thinking. Uh-oh.
There is something special about reading a high quality magazine about a subject I love. Reading it online is OK, but the feel, texture and even smell of a new magazine or book in my hands seems to have a very satisfying affect on me. (affect, effect, I always wonder if I have used it correctly)
Sitting down with the newspaper after dinner feels a whole lot different than sitting down at the computer to get my news and which one do you think is more satisfying to me?
The same goes for shopping for my favorite hobby, gardening. I enjoy seeing all the new things coming out from browsing the web, and no one store could carry all things, but entering a well laid out, garden shop just creates such great feeling.
In my travels I often stop by garden shops or seed companies I have read about, or with which I've done business. Pure nirvana. (the feeling, not the music group)
