A sad moment for those involved and Nashville.

Nashville's mayor Megan Barry pleaded guilty to theft of property over $10,000; Barry agreed to reimburse the city $11,000 and serve three years’ probation, according to numr4eouse reports. We have heard several accounts of just what the dollar amount is but we probably need to let the "dust settle" on that rather than put out what could be false numbers.
The misuse of public funds is supposedly the heart of the matter but some people we heard interviewed on TV seem to think that it was simply an extra-marital affair and that she was being unduly punished because she was a she. Your thoughts?
Companies have had a no dating policy within the company for many many years, and certainly not between someone in management over the person. The policy is not just to avoid sexual harassment but also to avoid temptation to abuse the other policies, give preferential treatment and even a void theft of money or company property.
We have some trendy names for it now and I have to admit that MANY years ago I dated an employee. Had we been "found out", we knew the penalty. Termination. Neither of us were married and we felt somewhat justified because we both worked long hours and had little opportunity for a social life outside of work.
Given our society's propensity to forgive marital indiscretions and blatant lies to their constituents, I don't think the shear fact of the extra-marital affair (or that she was a woman) brought her down. The proverbial "straw" was that public money was misused for personal use. Your vows to your spouse are private, but an elected official owes their constituents a high degree of honesty and integrity and when you violate that, you pay the price.
The bottom line to me is that it is a tragedy families were publicly torn apart, humiliated and drug through the mud. Most of us who have had long-lasting relationships know that it takes a strong commitment to make it work.
My condolences go out to all concerned, especially those who were collateral victims. Now to quote a famous fictional character Forrest Gump, "that's all I have to say about that", but feel free to make your own statements.
