  • I agree with not giving him name recognition. I'm sure at least for some of them the notoriety is at least part of the motivation. And this, like the others, would have been prevented if the current laws had been followed. The guy had his guns taken away by the state of Illinois after he jumped the fence at the White House. Then IL gave the guns to his dad. They should have held them til they decided the perp was responsible enough to have them back. The dad should be held as responsible as the perp.

As every reasonable person with common sense knows, the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy (or gal) with a gun. The second best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy without a gun. Kudos to the guy that stopped the perp. He claims he isn't a hero. But he really is.

  • Interestingly, the suspect is a soverign citizen. As such, the law doesn't apply to him. Sounds a little familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

-- Posted by cmcclanahan on Sun, Apr 22, 2018, at 10:28 PM
  • I wonder if sui knows him?

-- Posted by fair share on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 2:29 AM
  • It seems to be quite a coincidence that several of the last mass shooters had FBI contact before committing their mass murders.

Statistically speaking, that should stand out as a point of interest.

-- Posted by Liveforlight on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 5:11 AM
  • I heard that Nashville has since acknowledged that the suspect is probably armed with possibly two pistols. The longer he stays at large, the harder it will be to claim insanity.

Yes, he is not mentality stable, but no reason to avoid full punishment.

  • It does make me wonder if law enforcement and the justice system in general has been weakened by all the pandering society has given the poor, misunderstood criminal.

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 10:06 AM
  • Agreed Steve.

Not just criminals either. Lots of folks don't want to assign personal responsibility to anyone.

5 kids by 4 different men and you only have the skills for a minimum wage job? It's not your fault you're poor! Society let you down and evil greedy business owners should pay you a living wage just for breathing air.

-- Posted by quietmike on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 12:13 PM
  • Well, now that he is captured, I suppose we will hear the sad story and from the little I have heard this fellow DID have issues but our society gave him one too many chances.

With this background, we gave him back his firearms and the father gave them to him. About time personal responsibility came back.

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 2:45 PM
  • Without personal responsibility we may as well have anarchy. And if Toronto bans vans, only criminals will have vans. So they can still kill people with them. But at least they will have done something about the problem of assault vans.

-- Posted by fair share on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 3:49 PM
  • I agree Steve.

If I am not mistaken, it is a crime for a bartender to give a drink to someone who has had too much. The bartender can be held liable in such a case.

It would seem to me the same should apply to the father who gave the guns back to his son after he was legally banned from possessing them.

-- Posted by Liveforlight on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 8:03 PM
  • I suspect my more liberal friends are mumbling about how cold I am, unsympathetic. My sympathies BEFORE something like this is to help the person or maybe protect them and society by removing them from the general public.

My sympathies after this point are with the families of those hurt, no longer with the perpetrator.

We have laws to do this but our current society has slipped too far to one side. Everyone wins, no one loses so no one learns to handle disappointments. Children cannot be disciplined without “big mother” ever present to evaluate.

I was DISCIPLINED when I was a brat. It did not happen in public but I KNEW I was going to get it later and I STOPPED what I was doing. I believe I grew up OK. I believe the Nation grew up OK even though we did have the hippy generation.

Is there abuse, sure and my belief in corporal punishment does not excuse abuse. If corporal punishment is needed frequently, then help is needed.

Twice a year was MORE than enough for me to want to avoid it and I can’t recall if it was even needed that much but there were three boys in the family and we used to mix it up some. ;-)

Speaking of the hippy generation, that might have been the starting point for the slide. I enjoyed the period, mingled but some think I could have even been considered a hippy. My father might have thought that when I let my hair grow a little and grew a beard but....

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, Apr 23, 2018, at 10:03 PM
  • I that they are looking into charging the father with "aiding and abetting." He was not suppose to have given the guns back to his son.

-- Posted by Tyger on Tue, Apr 24, 2018, at 7:59 AM
  • It sounds like a reasonable thing to do.

He had to have known the son was unstable. I would not be surprised if his defense will be that he was afraid of his son, which would be even MORE reason to not let him have them, AND report him to the authorities.

But I am not sure the authorities would do, or be ABLE to do more than confiscate the firearms again.

-- Posted by stevemills on Tue, Apr 24, 2018, at 8:56 AM
  • It is pretty amazing to me that we've had a mass shooting in our own back yard with the evil non-assault rifle AR-15 and the house libs seem to have gone dark. Nary a peep from them. Could it be they have finally seen the light and come to their senses? Well, it doesn't hurt to hope.

-- Posted by fair share on Tue, Apr 24, 2018, at 6:00 PM
  • Maybe they realize the system of laws did not work in this case and are rethinking.

-- Posted by stevemills on Tue, Apr 24, 2018, at 8:02 PM
  • I wish that were the case, but, in every shooting in history, there were laws forbidding it.

Anyone else find it odd libs want laws against everything, but are vehemently opposed to meaningful penalties for breaking the law?

-- Posted by quietmike on Wed, Apr 25, 2018, at 3:55 AM
  • Interesting observation quietmike. The laws do seem rather “toothless”. And maybe the teeth are dulled by judges who choose to be lenient for some reason.

-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Apr 25, 2018, at 6:05 AM
  • Speaking of judges and the court system, I could not believe that they granted bond to this perp. Of course they rescinded that, but I can’t believe it was even considered

-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Apr 25, 2018, at 7:02 AM
  • Yeah, the bond thing was totally ridiculous. They don't seem to care about punishing perps. After all, nothing is anyone's fault, it is society's. Except, of course, conservatives wanting to exercise their rights or anyone that disagrees with the left's party line.

-- Posted by fair share on Wed, Apr 25, 2018, at 11:34 AM
  • Is it just me, or does it seem that the conversation is leaning more toward the 'mental illness' aspect rather than 'gun control'?

-- Posted by bbbluebird on Wed, Apr 25, 2018, at 11:37 AM
  • Bbbluebird, that may be why things are quiet as well. This perp does have some prior behavorial issues so I would settle for life, but NO parole.

  • I am in favor of concealed carry permits.

My main concern is unintentional injury. Do all classes include situation assessmemt & management not just functional ability to handle the weapon?

    Do people fail the course?

Five people shooting at this fellow in the confined space of a Waffle House is not as reassuring as it sounds.

-- Posted by stevemills on Wed, Apr 25, 2018, at 9:41 PM
  • Yes, the class covers weapon handling, legal aspects, and safety, which includes situational awareness

It is worth noting that Tennessee has a law that states any business posted as gun free is responsible for the safety of their customers.

So if anyone in the Waffle House had a carry permit, they can sue Waffle House for damages.

-- Posted by quietmike on Thu, Apr 26, 2018, at 7:09 AM
  • Disregard that last part. Tennessee tried to pass that law, but it was gutted.

Reminder to self not to post before coffee.

-- Posted by quietmike on Thu, Apr 26, 2018, at 7:18 AM
  • So if a place states it is gun free, are you violating a law or just a company policy if you have a concealed weapon?

-- Posted by stevemills on Thu, Apr 26, 2018, at 7:23 AM
  • It does not matter if he had mental problems in the past or not,he would have still been labeled as such for one reason and we all know why.He was heard across the street at Publixs making racial slurs the day before. He will not be labeled a terrorist either. He was not to crazy to avoid police for 2 days.I am amazed at how police can capture armed white suspects alive and have to shoot unarmed black suspects in the head for minor traffic stops. It is sad we heard no condolences or acknowledgement from the WH,but Dumpty had time to tweet about people killed in Canada.

Quite it is not only poor people with 5 babies by 4 different baby daddys that commit crimes, look at Dumpty he has 5 kids by 3 women and his crimes are coming.

Did anyone see clips of Dumpty on Faux this morning,he lost it and said "Cohen handled my case about that crazy Stormy Daniels case" after he denied knowing anything about it on tape a few weeks ago.It was utter madness at high speed.

Please Dumpty keep calling in Faux and letting America see how out of control he is.

-- Posted by lets be real on Thu, Apr 26, 2018, at 10:00 PM
  • Steve, current TN law says it is a crime, but one only punishable by a fine.

LBR-This guy avoided being shot by cops, because he didn't try to fight them.

I know your urge to feel victimized overrides your common sense, but you might look to the grand juries, and actual criminal trial juries, which included black jurists, who said the cops committed no crimes.

-- Posted by quietmike on Thu, Apr 26, 2018, at 10:34 PM
  • I'm glad to see you back unreal. Was starting to worry something might be wrong with you. I'm glad you didn't stroke out following Kanye and Candace Owens. No matter what they may tell you, you don't have to think for yourself. Sure is easier just following the progressive party line. But doesn't it get old harping on Trump all the while he is making the world safer and America greater? Anyway, you might be interested in learning mccabe and comey are a whole lot closer to jail than Trump is.

  • Everyone got their cup of coffee?

I do not waste my time getting to know persons who claim to be Sovereign Citizens.

There is no such thing as a sovereign citizen.

If you are a sovereign, you are a sovereign man or a sovereign woman.

You were endowed with unalienable rights by your creator.

If you are a citizen, you were granted with civil privileges by the U.S. Federal Corporation or a State Corporation and are a person subject to all U.S. laws, codes, rules and regulations and state laws in the State that you reside in.

A sovereign citizen may be a white supremacist with a hate group which is nothing more than a Anti-Fascist "person".

I stay away from those kind of persons. Those persons are killers and they are not all white people. They come in white, brown, black and any other color you choose to pick.

Everyone in the world who is born in America or comes to America is recognized as being a Sovereign Man or Sovereign Woman with Unalienable Rights, until such time as they are registered as a U.S. Citizen.

They are not bound by our laws in America because they are Sovereign until they injure someone or do property damage or become U.S. Citizens.

The illegal Aliens are not breaking our immigration laws, because the laws don't apply to them yet. They are free to go anywhere they want to and do anything they want to until they become subject to U.S. Laws, codes, Rules and Regulations.

Do all of you understand this? They actually have more Sovereignty than any of you have, because they are NOT U.S. Citizens yet.

The American idiots are protesting Pres. Trump and other officials by begging them to let the people come in and sleep in tents on their side walks and make their town a **** hole town.

Bring them into Calif then allow them to go into the other states, once in Calif., where no one can control or even count them.

I'll be gone soon and the younger generations will have to deal with their generosity and stupidity.

-- Posted by stevemills on Fri, Apr 27, 2018, at 7:11 AM
  • Quite how do you know he did not resist them,we did not see them grab him in the woods. But we do see them pulling blacks over for traffic stops, pulling them out of cars, handcuffing them and then beat them or shoot in the head.We have seen blacks ask by police to get their information out and get shot when reaching for it.We have seen blacks shot in the back and cops place guns at the seen or drugs. So don't tell me that every armed white killer gave up without resistance.Whites go to a hospital or Burger King(like Dylan Roof) after arrest.Blacks go straight to jail even if injured and some die there.

Fair we will see who goes to jail.Dumpty hurt himself yesterday by calling Faux yesterday. His tweets and interviews are being used to hurt him legally. Thanks to his interview attorney client privilege with Cohen is gone since Cohen only did " a tiny, tiny bit" for him.

I have never seen an administration pick so many corrupt cabinet members and staff.

No other examples of police being found guilty?

Or does the conspiracy to kill blacks extend to the court system too, where somehow they convinced black jurors its the thing to do?

What exactly did Trump do? Kim Jong Un holds all the cards right now after ramping up his missle tests during the Trump presidency. If sanctions had anything at all to do with the meeting, which is unlikely, then China played the biggest part. But it's more likely Kim Jong Un is playing everyone like a fiddle to get what he wants.

-- Posted by RocketValentine on Mon, Apr 30, 2018, at 4:55 AM
  • It certainly takes “two to tango”. Why donyou suppose Kim chise Mr. Trump to extend the most promising overtures of peace?

  • Wow, RV, looks like you won't ever get off the Trump-can-do-no-good train. I suppose if you were on fire and Trump put it out by p!ssing on you, all we would hear is "he p!ssed on me, he p!ssed on me!"; while not having the decency to utter a word of thanks. Un holds all the cards now? Makes sense since he is suffering effective sanctions that are making him hurt and finally seeing a credible threat of annihilation. And sure China helped. Because after 60 plus years they finally got tired of propping up NK? Or because of pressure from Trump? But don't worry too much about it. If you and your buddies can get him out of office and replace him with one of your own, you should be able to get us and the rest of the world back to the dark and dangerous place you seem to be more comfortable with.

Ok, besides Trump making up one of his childish nicknames for Kim Jong Un, "little rocket-man", nobody has answered the question..What did Trump have to do with any of this?

I'm not trying to take credit away if it's deserved. But again, if you're saying sanctions are the main cause of the negotiations, then the U.N. and China would have the credit for that.

-- Posted by RocketValentine on Mon, Apr 30, 2018, at 10:24 AM
  • We common folk are not privy to what goes on in the background. The South Korean president however may know something so what about his comment that he attributes the progress to Trump?

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, Apr 30, 2018, at 10:42 AM
  • Trump destroyed ISIS, dropped the MOAB on them, and hit Syria twice. Threats, then praise from Trump to NK, may have made them think he's crazy, but they certainly knew he wasn't bluffing.

It is true that China has a huge influence over NK. Trump used trade to encourage China to help influence NK.

-- Posted by quietmike on Mon, Apr 30, 2018, at 12:00 PM
  • *

Ok Steve, that's all I was asking. Because nobody can seem to point directly at anything Trump did to be able to take credit for any negotiations. So you think it was something in the "background", behind the scenes we don't know about?

-- Posted by RocketValentine on Mon, Apr 30, 2018, at 3:43 PM
  • *

Mikey, are you seriously putting up Syria as a Trump success story?

-- Posted by RocketValentine on Mon, Apr 30, 2018, at 3:57 PM
  • My Personal opinion but I really think there is a “public” Trump which many have come to hate (I’m not fond of it either) then there is a private, less abrasive personality for his negotiations. Yes, I believe there is background negotiations of which we are not aware, nor should we be if it endangers the negotiation.

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, Apr 30, 2018, at 4:41 PM
  • RV, Not a success, but an example that he will back up what he says. Far different than the ever shifting red line of the last administration.

  • Quitemike we will get a chance to see if he backs up what he says for instance "I would be willing to talk to Mueller under oath".

All Dumpty did was insult Kim and take us to the brink of nuclear war.He will do just about anything to get the Nobel Peace Prize even try to pay for one to beat Obama.

Still he has not mentioned the Waffle House shooting or congratulated the hero or send condolences to the families.Sarah Slander lied today again and said the had reached out to the hero.Mr Shaw stated he has not heard from the WH.So now he will be called after WH put under pressure, which is a shame.

The South Korean foreign minister and president credits Trump for the meeting, but LBR says no.

Dumpty was asked on Air Force One if he knew about the payment to Daniels. His answer was "NO" and now all america knows he lied again.Breaking News,Rudy Giuliani just stated on Shame Hannity that" Dumpty paid Cohen back hush money that was funneled through a lawyers office".Breaking News for tomorrow Lawyer Cobb gone yesterday and Giuliani gone today.Giuliani says if Dumpty meets with Mueller it will be a perjury trap.If he tells the truth how can there be a trap. And since Cohen paid that money a few days before the election to avoid a scandal that could have an influence on Dumpty's campaign that is illegal. Thank you Giuliani keep talking and giving Mueller more gifts.

Now we find the FBI wiretapped Cohen's phone weeks before the raid on his home and office. This should prove interesting and some were intercepted from the WH.Now Giuliani is trying to backtrack on what he said to Shame Hannity,it is to late the cat is out of the bag.

I know how traumatic reality is to liberals, but, the secret service disallowed guns at the NRA convention since they will be protecting several political figures there. If you want to see real hypocrisy, look no further than your own ignorant democrat leaders who enjoy that secret service protection, but want regular people disarmed, even though most murders are in democrat controlled cess pools.

-- Posted by lets be real on Sat, May 5, 2018, at 4:20 PM
  • LBR,

I don't know how many times things usually have to be repeated to you before it finally clicks, but I'm seriously beginning to doubt your claims of being a nurse.

As has been pointed out MULTIPLE times, the unemployment rate rose under odumbo and a democrat congress, and only started falling when dems started losing seats. The more the democrats lost, the better the results, as is usual.

The current unemployment rate is the lowest in 45 years, far different than the silly democrat claims of a tanking stock market and another recession.

  • As for Stormy, you're not a victim for knowingly sleeping with a married man, you're just a ho. But that much was already known about her.

-- Posted by quietmike on Sat, May 5, 2018, at 6:38 PM
  • And not a very good ho at that! She was paid quite well to keep her mouth SHUT. She just couldn't do it. Guess running her ho mouth is just in her g(j?)enes.

-- Posted by fair share on Sat, May 5, 2018, at 9:58 PM
  • Stormy is just one of the women another playboy model has come forth and there are many others. But Dumpty said he never slept with them,so why pay out this money? And why pay it out 2 weeks before the election? If she is a ho,what does that make him,a ho monger, who cheated on all 3 wives. He claims he is a germaphobic.A germaphobic would not get golden showers and sleep with women without protection.

Just let Giuliani keep talking we will know everything before Muellers probe finish.Hahaha

-- Posted by lets be real on Mon, May 7, 2018, at 6:19 PM
  • We do not know what his marital “understandings” were so how do we know he cheated?

Unless someone was there, we also don’t know what his likes and dislikes are but they sure make for great smear campaign.

Hearing this type of crap, why would a sane candidate NOT want to shut someone up, true or not true? There would be no time to refute.

There is no proof beside these fine upstanding, highly moral females. I would say ladies but not sure it fits.

What would the public say about men sharing these details about women? And don’t think women are below this. Heck, by there own admission THEY participated.

-- Posted by stevemills on Mon, May 7, 2018, at 9:16 PM
  • lets be real, (Sorry to single you out, but you have to admit, you make some outlandish comments), how do you explain this, a rising Democrat Attorney General accused of physical and metal abuse? https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/07/politics/eric-schneiderman-violence-allegations/i... Are they closet Republicans?

Interesting response on the CBS Morning Show (yes, I was watching news) I have never seen them question the women but this time they are giving some benefit of doubt to Schneiderman by saying it is bizarre that these women were in a relationship with him and they would assume they we participating in consensual activity. https://www.cbsnews.com/video/ny-attorney-general-schneiderman-resignation-today... Please forgive the leader ad, there is no way to shut it off before completion.

Even the man's ex-wife stated in the 35+- years of knowing him as a spouse, father and friend, this is NOT her memories of their time together. So what is up?

Do you really think he would make such strong, public comments about abuse in relationships if he had skeletons like this hanging in the closet?

Supposedly these women had not talked to each other, so how did these allegations come out at one time? Someone was digging hard (The New Yorker) and why? To sell their publication? A Weinstein strikes back maneuver? (You KNOW he has to be smiling)

Were they encouraged to embellish their accounts? Why, as CBS This Morning pointed out, did successful, strong women, stay in the relationship? And if they chose to stay, why cry about it now, to a magazine reporter? What's the agenda here?

Then it raises another big question. What ever happened to libel and slander? IF these charges are embellished or recanted, what happens to the accuser? Anything?

The damage is done, just with the accusations. If false, how do you repair the damage? Should the New Yorker and women be fined to make up the difference of his salary for XX years?

-- Posted by stevemills on Tue, May 8, 2018, at 9:15 AM
  • She recalls, “Sometimes, he’d tell me to call him Master, and he’d slap me until I did.” Selvaratnam, who was born in Sri Lanka, has dark skin, and she recalls that “he started calling me his ‘brown slave’ and demanding that I repeat that I was ‘his property.'"

From the story in New Yorker, referenced in the CNN link.

Could you imagine the amount of times this allegation would be the headline if it were a non-democrat being accused?

Wonder why CNN didn't include that little tidbit?

Status quo on the LSM. Won't hear much about the real perv from New York, but I'll bet we keep hearing about the fake golden showers. Especially from unreal. Why is she so fascinated by them???

  • It is amazing that LBR sees illusions of racism everywhere among republicans, especially Trump, yet here is a democrat, and a fairly high ranking one, using some of the most racist statements and actions seen in a good while, and,..... crickets.

If Trump had said something even close to this, she would have fits that Thorazine couldn't fix.

  • Well, the dem bosses are the modern day overseers and owners. The Old South cotton farm just moved to the urban camps across the country. But the only ones they care to use the "racist" label on are Trump and anyone else with a conservative thought.

-- Posted by fair share on Thu, May 10, 2018, at 9:01 AM
  • I am not sure how to check it, but this may be the shortest response we have ever had from you LBR and not one slam at Trump!

I don’t care to read the details as much as the motivation behind why this charge was constructed. Something is not adding up.

The dems are just about to the end of their rope. So worried about the midterms that they sent in the teenagers and the porn stars. It really is so sad I'm considering starting to feel sorry for them.

    https://seekingalpha.com/article/4172785-laffer-curve-strikes-lower-tax-rates-pr...

But increased revenues are no substitute for inflicting "social justice" on people who aren't professional victims.

  • Well, I considered it and decided nope, not gonna feel sorry for them. Too much fun laughing at them. Not gonna stop that. And it would be too hypocritical to feel sorry for them and laugh at them.

If McCain won't have the decency to resign, he ought to at least have the decency to go ahead and die and let Trump and the CIA get about the business of keeping America safe. I know Singing John got tortured back in the day. Not the fake torture of waterboarding with medical staff on stand-by. Possibly his physical/mental injuries explain why he has been such an idiot for so long. But really, it's past time he get over himself and put the country first for a change. And if he doesn't want the President at his funeral, maybe the whole Executive Branch should stay home.

Besides, what was the basis of the morality of which the inquisitor based her question? Is religion allowed in government or do they get to pick and choose?

I’m tired. Probably should have saved this for later but....

-- Posted by stevemills on Fri, May 11, 2018, at 10:49 PM
  • Good point Steve.

Morality is a purely individual concept.

Some think it's immoral to kill an unborn baby, while others think it's immoral to not require all of society to accept and subsidize it.

-- Posted by quietmike on Sat, May 12, 2018, at 8:02 AM
  • Likewise a good question, is abortion less immoral than waterboarding which does not take life and helps us thwart loss of life?

  • Yeah, gotta wonder about morality. Killing thousands of innocents vs making a few dirtbags uncomfortable. That liberal math just don't add up.

On a different note, I'm sure that you, along with most people alive recognize the "#" symbol as "hashtag". Most people also likely recognize it's pre-Twitter meaning of "pound". My question is this: am I the only one that sees the irony of a group of women jumping on the bandwagon claiming years-old episodes of sexual abuse forming a group called "Pound Me Too"?

    75 criminal charges

22 companies under investigation for fraud

    19 indictments

    6 plead guilty

    1 sentenced

Now Manafort's son in law takes a plea deal and is cooperating with the government, but Dumpty still calls this a witch hunt.Mueller sure is catching a lot of witches and getting close to the biggest one.
