A few years ago the NFL was fining players who wanted to show their patriotism and specifically the tragedy of 9-11. https://www.dailywire.com/news/9096/nfl-fines-players-wearing-patriotic-cleats-h...
Now they are going to fine players who are NOT patriotic or choose to demonstrate their frustration with racism in America and violence at the hands of police by disrespecting the flag. Confusing isn’t it?
I realize that players come from, or are well acquainted with a different reality from what many of us see, but I HAVE seen and experienced some of what they are objecting. It isn’t pretty, and I thank God and my family that I never had to live in it, but disrespecting our flag that so many have died or put their lives on the line to protect is wrong.
I have a lot more to say but recent Facebook video came across my computer and it was much more eloquent than I. Was it written by an actual veteran? I decided to do a Snopes check and here is the letter and their opinion https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/retired-marine-open-letter-nfl/
Here is my suggestion, create a symbol that will make their statement and lets everyone know of their cause. The NFL can still fine them, to make it more of a “hardship” on them and the NFL donates the money raised to a program that does something positive in the public’s eyes to get all sides working to improve the situation. Stop disrespecting our Nation's flag!
