Gum + Kids = Angry MomPosted Saturday, September 8, 2007, at 12:35 PM
I have just found gum in my carpet.
Wow…humm what do I do about this? I don't even allow drink or food on my carpet at all. I don't even allow my children to have gum because they have not learned to throw it in the trash. I ask my daughter where she got the gum from. From my teacher she tells me. Well since my husband, my dad and I don't give them gum I was glad to know she got it from someone she trusts. But I would love for the teachers to find some other way to reward children with out food, candy and gum. Comments Showing most recent comments first [Show in chronological order instead] |

Seriously your making a fuss over that??? Look how the world is today. The world is full of hate and killing and you are complaining over a piece of gum in your carpet that a teacher gave. You remember when you was a kid? Think about that before you over react."
Bet someones really in need of a good carpet cleaning!LOL
I'd be upset too! Matter of fact I got upset when I found gum on the patio, but I guess some would say I over reacted too!
I'm glad the ice worked. A good point was kind of brought up in this conversation. If we don't start setting limits for the kids at home, where will their limits be later in life? As petty as your "no gum" rule may seem to some, I agree with you that rules are rules and are meant to be followed. If rules are ignored by children in the home, then why should they follow the laws as adults? And we wonder why society is so crime ridden today. (can ya feel my sarcasm there?)
Glad to hear you got that gum out. And equally as glad you are teaching your children RESPECT!!!! Good to hear, it seems rare these days.
Thank you for all your responces and comments. All were very helpful.
For the person that wishes I post or thinking more about the negativity in this world thank you for your view. But now I believe if I can teach my children at a young age to respect others and other people belongings then I have made a difference in the way that people are living today.
For FYI I was able to get the gum out with ice!
I hope everyone has a wonderful day.
Gum in carpet= DISASTER!
A piece of gum, is harmless...It'll become a distant and unimportant memory in the many life lessons.
I have to say, it is kinda nice to just see someone rant about something this simple. There really isn't a Republican/Democratic, or Christian/Atheist way of thinking about this.. LMAO!

WOW SOMEONE DIDN'T TAKE THEIR HAPPY PILLS TODAY.
Mrs Jesch was just asking for advice on a very common problem seen among kids, we work hard to have nice carpet, furniture etc and we don't like having it ruined. And when I was a kid I wasn't allowed gum due to the same fact, well that and mom didn't want my teeth rottening out. I think she was lying though, I chew gum all the time and still haven't rotted a single tooth ;P
You don't allow food and drink on your carpet..BRAVO TO YOU, I don't allow shoes or dirty socks either.
I have experienced gum in carpet and I was told peanut butter works, it did okay but the ice idea and cutting it out worked much better.
Sorry that babychick felt the need to attack you. Oh well, Good luck on the gum problem and send a note to the teacher asking them not to give your children gum (I did and it has worked so far)

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!
I will let you borrow my Chihuahua, he loves gum.
LOL yep
Diana, you must have posted your comment while I was typing mine, ha ha! Great minds think alike, lol!
I don't know what to tell you about the teacher, except maybe asking him/her to find a different way to award childeren besides food, candy, or gum. But, I've heard peanut butter takes gum out of hair, I wonder if it would take it out of the carpet, or make the stain worse?
You could also try this:
Place an ice cube in a baggie.
Put ice on gum in carpet.
Wait until gum completely freezes.
Scrape gum from carpet using a dull knife, such as a butter knife.
Oh yeah try ice to get it out of your carpet..if you freeze the gum with ice it should pull right up. I have heard peanut butter gets gum out also but who wants peanut butter on their carpet either.
Where does she go to school? I have never heard of a teacher giving their students gum in fact they usually prohibit gum in the schools.
