"American Dream"Posted Monday, October 29, 2007, at 10:55 AM
My entire life that people want to live the "American Dream".
I have always wondered what it is? I do consider myself an American and yes I have many dreams but I can not imagine everyone in America having the same dreams as I do. Some of you might laugh that I honestly have no clue what people are talking about when they say "American Dream". Which is fine please laugh away, but if you would take a moment and tell me your interpertation of the "American Dream" I thank you greatly. When I hear people say the American dream I think of perfect spouse, 2.3 kids, perfect house on the perfect street with white picket fence and such. That's not my American dream but I'd say that is what most would think.
Casting Crowns sings a song called American Dream and I think it's very true. It basically talks about how people stress out trying to keep up with the Jones' while letting the important things ie time witb family slip on the wayside.
The American Dream is any dream, all dreams, no dreams. The right, the legacy and the freedom to travel your own road, create something from nothing, or watch passively as others live their dreams. When you look into the eyes of an American and see that special light that says "I can do anything", and then they do, that is The American Dream. We are only limited by our imagination.
no better way to put patriot1.
We are only limited by our imagination.

And those who feel you don't deserve the same freedom to live your dreams, the freedoms many of those people take for granted.
The real American dream is one you can't fully enjoy unless the people around you and the generations -to-come get their hopes realized.
Its seed comes from the dreams that have come before.
It can't take root in despair and it can't grow in indifference.
It's watered by sweat and tears.
It weathers storms best when planted in bulk so each dream strengthens the one next to it.
No matter how often it's poisoned, cut down, burned or starved,no matter how often its roots are attacked,it survives.
It may even spread faster and further underground.
But,sooner or later,it bursts forth with color, sweet fruit and branches as strong as the summer sun.
Its seed comes from the dreams that have come before.
It can't take root in despair and it can't grow in indifference.

Thanks,tdc!
I'm partial to Patriot1's-and Danny's gal was dead right.
We can't have a good dream if we're focusing on trivialities.
We have to want our dreams enough to ignore negativity and complacency and piddlin' worldly concerns.
A little horse sense and some industrial strength hope...
That's what makes a dream too big to steal and too tough to kill.
wish you would have been here when darrick and i had this conversation. you make my point way better than i could. or at least more elequantly:)
You'll give me the big head.
Y'all are very astute and well-spoken.
Plus, your pithy remarks take up less bandwith.
