Random Acts of Kindness

Posted Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at 11:13 AM

On another website I visit daily (care2.com) the daily action for today is random acts of kindness.

There were a lot of great suggestions on things to do to brighten someones day and many of them I have done over a period of time.

I would like for anyone to post things they have done or things others have done for them, purely just out of kindness.

One of the things that I have done in the past is pay for the order of the person behind me in the drive thru lane.

I hope that everyone will just take time today to show some type of kindness it really is the small things in life that can make us smile.

A selfless gift…this time of year I can't help but think about the song, "Christmas Shoes", I always cry when I hear it. Anyway, my most recent blessing involves a college grade.

I am a full time student in my last year of college and I recently met this selfless person in one of my classes. During one of our conversations she explained to me that her current profession involved sign language. Subsequently, I explained to her that I had a sign language project due the following week. This angel took time out of her busy schedule, drove 30 miles out of her way, went to my classroom and demonstrated sign language for me while I conducted my presentation.

I immediately asked her if I could pay her for her time and gas, she refused. Due to her kindness, my project was a success and I received full credit on the assignment.

Acts if kindness can come in many forms. Just making a person smile, complimenting them on something they did or the way they look (watch out for political correctness). Isn't it crazy that we even have to worry about that?

Even when I have a tough discussion coming up, I try to find a way to inject a little humanity. When you have medical bills come in from all sides, trying to get them sorted out and making sure they are correct can get stressful. Regardless of the situation. I always try to let the person on the other end know that I am not holding them personally responsible for the issue.

All this effort makes my day better as well.

When my stepson was in the hospital for a week and my husband was off work the whole time my mother gave me $500.00 and we really needed it! This was the same day we were all called to her house to say our goodbyes because my grandma was passing away. My mother retired and had been taking care of her for 3 yrs. and loved her dearly. During such a time of pain and loss when we were all worried about her she was still worried about us!
