Prepping
Posted Sunday, March 13, at 3:08 PM I've been getting into the "prepping" mindset lately and have started stocking up on some things that will help us out in case a "poop hits the fan" sort of event occurs. Actually, I should change that to say "when" it occurs because, let's face it, we ALL have situations where it would have been a good idea to have been better prepared. ...
Surely, you jest I was reading an article today that walks us through a typical day in Bedford County General Sessions Court with Judge Charles Rich. It seems as though Judge Rich has little patience for people that have the ability to, with the help of friends and/or family, come up with bail money but are unable to come up with the money for an attorney. ...
Religion Recently on several of the blogs there has been something of a debate ongoing regarding religion, or lack of religion. Personally, I am a Catholic. I was raised Baptist but realized that when I went to church, just about everyone there was simply gossiping about everyone else. ...
Assigning blame There has been WAY too much talk (myself included) when it comes to who was or was not responsible for the recent shooting in Tucson, AZ. I've read this guy's ramblings that he had posted on Facebook and some other disjointed, schizophrenic ramblings of his. ...
Gun AND Speech Control -- Double nuttiness from the Democrats Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) has sprung into action to get her team ready to introduce new gun control legislation as early as tomorrow after the incident in Tuscon where a lone gunman killed 6 people and wounded 14 others, including Representative Gabriel Giffords yesterday. She says that people shouldn't be able to stockpile ammunition like the kind this idiot in Tuscon used. So, you're not supposed to have more than 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition?...
In the news Today when I brought up the Times-Gazette's website I noticed a number of news articles that I thought should be addressed (that number being four). 1) Gunmen aim at children What kind of low-life, dirty scum points a gun at, and threatens to kill, children? Particularly over $120 and a cell phone. ...
The Security of America's Food Supply Ok, this is not about the thing at the Tyson plant recently. I have no idea whether or not the "graffiti" really included the words "All Americans must die". Personally, I had my doubts about that the moment I read about it. It does bring to mind though that there have been, according to the government, credible reports that Al Qaeda has considered attacking our country through the food supply. ...
Don't ask, don't tell...GO! Last night the United States Senate voted in favor of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010" and President Obama is certain to sign this into law this week. What are your thoughts on this bill or the idea of homosexuals serving in the military? I'm not asking for ranting on either side, just an open and, hopefully, civil debate on this soon to be law...
Where's that red light? Over two months ago the Shelbyville City Council voted to drop the speed limit on Hwy 231 north of Shelbyville to 45 and put up the red light that the (supposedly) have the money in escrow for at the Heritage Medical Center. They voted on this and had planned to throw up the reduced speed limit signs a mere two business days later. ...
Way to go, Shelbyville City Council! Lowering the speed limit on a FOUR LANE U.S. HIGHWAY to 45 MPH?! It's no wonder there is no real industry in Shelbyville aside from that smelly Tyson plant. By the way, is that really the nasty smell that I had the pleasure of sniffing as I was close to downtown last week? I asked the people at the business that we were in and they said it was Tyson...
Charter "Customer Service" So yesterday when the cable (and internet) went out at 4:52pm I figured it was just another of the MANY outages that we have come to deal with while Charter has been our ISP and cable provider. At around 7pm I decided to go ahead and call them. I got the standard "there's an outage in your area" message. ...
Fun with numbers The national DEBT is $13,310,379,000,000, the population (including illegals) is estimated by the Census Bureau at 310,042,345. That means that EVERY man, woman, and child in this country owes $42930.84 on that debt. Next year's budget is in the red ANOTHER $1,000,000,000,000...
Bell Buckle water Ok, since we (the community) cannot be trusted to comment on the "news" articles that are posted on here and I've tried the "reply to the editor" link with no results, I'll post this myself. The water in Bell Buckle continues to run yellow. It's not just on the line that runs out towards Wartrace, as this "news"paper continues to tell us, it's in town too. ...
Just how long IS "temporary"? On January 27th the Shelbyville Times-Gazette "temporarily" suspended the comments feature for news stories. It's now July 7th, over six months later, and the comments feature is still not available. The Southeast Missourian, the parent newspaper for the T-G, has their comments feature enabled but we in Bedford County are somehow (in the obvious opinion of this paper) not mature enough to be allowed to voice our opinions on items in the news...
I hope everyone had a great (and safe) Independence Day. I know the fireworks, cookouts, and beer are great, but let us not forget what this day is really about. 234 years ago, our forefathers adopted a Declaration of Independence that, once signed, would be a document that was tantamount to treason. ...
What is "public intoxication"? I just read an article about three guys that were in a truck, swerving down the road. The driver and both passengers were allegedly intoxicated and the driver and one of the passengers had guns on them. While I am glad that the DUI suspect was taken off the street and the two with guns (the driver and one passenger) were charged accordingly, I would like to know how they charged the two passengers with public intoxication. ...
Obama, Biden declare "Recovery Summer" "Vice President Biden today will kick off "Recovery Summer," a six-week-long push designed to highlight the jobs accompanying a surge in stimulus-funded projects to improve highways, parks, drinking water and other public works. Biden will present President Obama with a report laying out a spike in stimulus activity this summer, and how it will contribute to a steady climb to a total of 3.5 million Recovery Act jobs by the end of the year."...
Arizona's new immigration law I have to admit I was a bit torn on this one at first. Arizona's Governor Jan Brewer signed into law on Friday an immigration law that requires immigrants (all immigrants) to carry their alien registration papers with them at all times. It requires local and state law enforcement to question people if there's reason to suspect that they are in the U.S. ...
Compromising character for profit My wife and I took a trip down to Tullahoma yesterday to visit our favorite catfish joint, we hadn't been there in a while and figured it was time to head back. Well, what used to be our favorite. Turns out that this particular catfish joint has changed for the worse...
States sue the federal government over Health Care bill The Attorneys General for 13 states have filed a lawsuit in federal court in Pensacola, FL today. Just seven minutes after President Obama signed the bill into law Attorneys General from Florida, South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, Utah, Pennsylvania, Alabama, South Dakota, Louisiana, Idaho, Washington, and Colorado filed their lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the federal government requiring citizens to purchase a product or service (in this case health insurance). ...
