WTB....What the blog?

Posted Monday, August 13, 2007, at 2:05 PM

Hi everyone. This is my first blog, so please bear with me as I learn the ropes. I'm not new to the 'net, but I am new to posting my opinions/writings in a place where they will be viewed by any that care to do so. I plan on blogging on something different every day. I will be answering comments on older ones, but I am going to try not to get that "stale" feel that some blogs that have been around for a while (not on here) get with the same thing day in, day out. Now for a little bit of information about me. My wife, Bonnie, and I are new to the area. So whatever events around here that I write about, I will be doing so from a new resident's perspective. We have three dogs and a cat...those are our kids for the time being. I am an eight-year veteran of the U.S. Navy and I am very proud of that fact. I was in both Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Before someone calls me out on the fact that these were more than eight years apart, I had a nine year break in service. During that time I worked primarily as a dealer in the casinos in Tunica. That's where I met my wife of (almost) 12 years. We worked together, and it just worked out. I re-joined the Navy in December of 2001 since I felt strongly in what we were trying to accomplish at that time. The Navy has been good to me, twice, and I will tell anyone that asks about the pros and cons to military life. We moved to Bell Buckle in November after I was offered a job in Franklin. We absolutely love the area around here and try to go to a park every week or so around here. For the most part I'd like to write about our adventures in this area, but I am rather opinionated (as I'm sure some of you have noticed from my comments), so I'll have my opinions thrown in there as well. Like I said, I'm going to try to avoid that "stale" feeling, so feel free to e-mail me if there's something you'd like to discuss on here (and you don't have your own blog). Be forewarned though. If you ask me my opinion on something, you will get my opinion. I might not have any facts on which that opinion is based, other than that's how I feel about something. I am really looking forward to this and I hope that these blogs will take off and draw more people in. Thanks for taking the time to read this...if you've made it this far, I'm sure we'll get along fine.

Welcome Thom.. I do look forward to your blogs. I say Thank you for your service to our Country. My Father was a service man also. I support my troops but I can not support this war or our current administration and for what's it worth I am sure you and I will bump heads on that subject. But they are my opinions..and as you well know I have no problem voicing my opinions. :>)

But please never see me disagreeing with you as an attack on you personally because that is never my intention with anyone here. I am a very opinionated person and classified by many as a Liberal although I do prefer to be called a Liberal with conservative edges.

Dianetn, I never take someone disagreeing with me as a personal attack. I'm not very easily offended, I was in the Navy for 8 years and a craps dealer for a different 8. I'm pretty open minded when it comes to people disagreeing with me with civil intelligent debate. I've got a pretty twisted sense of humor, so please don't take offense with anything that I might put on here. I'm more of a conservative with conservative edges. A few things I'm liberal about, but those are few and far between.

Yeah I read where you worked in Casino's, I did also. I worked in Vegas(started as a cocktail waitress and went to dealing blackjack later) and in Marquette Iowa on a River boat Casino (I never knew one place could be so cold as to freeze the Mississippi River so hard cars could drive on it but it was that cold there, it amazed me)

I miss it a lot sometimes but it didn't take me long to realize Vegas wasn't built on winners and those silly slot machines called my name way too much.

Well, my wife and I worked in Tunica. If you've been a dealer then you already know how great the casino employees are at gambling...I've seen many friends of mine get paid at midnight and be broke by 6 in the morning. Still having two weeks to go before they get paid again. I got tired of seeing people lose more than they could afford to lose. Actually the one I started out on went to Iowa, I think it went to Davenport though, the President casino. That was a while ago though.
