Ok, being relatively new to the area, I don't know very much about the people here. I have met a few of my neighbors, but I don't really know any of them very well. I would like to see if there is a civic-minded organization that meets around here (pretty much anywhere in Bedford, or Rutherford Counties) that I could look into. I've been really thinking about this a lot lately. I don't currently do anything that "gives back" to the community (by that I don't mean Bell Buckle, or Bedford County, I mean in general). I had discussed the idea with my wife of donating my time to help teach some of the less fortunate, that have NO technical skills at all, how to build and troubleshoot basic computer issues. Maybe they could take that skill and get a position somewhere that will enable them to go back to school and get a degree. I don't know. I just know that I have wanted to do something to help those that are less fortunate, and the main skill that I have to offer is my knowledge and experience with computers, networks, and software. If anyone knows, or is part of an organization that would like to set something like that up, please let me know. I have no idea as to how something like this would have to be setup, but I could definitely help. Or you can e-mail me at the link on the right (E-mail Thom Williamson). Thanks.

The local United Way office, 684-6685, is often a good clearing house for things like this, because United Way funds -- and therefore is in contact with -- so many varied local agencies. (Disclosure: I'm a United Way board member.)

Although I do not know of any organizations in which you hope to open, I can tell you that I am very eager to learn more about computers, and when you do create an organization to help the community and those less fortunate, please let me know, because I will be very happy to join.

Maybe you should check with the Chamber of Commerce or perhaps something like the Rec Center. Maybe they have some organizations. Maybe even the library, or some of the schools in Shelbyville.

The more people that are familiar with computers, the faster we as a whole become better with technology, and yes, helping people learn about computers would help them and encourage them in their career fields.

I think you have a great idea.
