How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?

I apologize for my absence. I've posted replies to others' blogs, but I haven't posted anything new on mine in quite some time. That's about to change. I've been going through a bit of a transformation of late. My wife and I have both been concerned about health and a few weeks ago she suggested that we try a few vegetarian meals every now and then. This was a total shock to me because, although I may love vegetables, she's always been a meat and potatoes woman. Well, for the most part, we've been vegetarians during the week and eat "real food" on the weekends. I actually expected for this to be a rather painful transition. It has not been. We've been making all sorts of dishes using no meat and this has been a VERY tasty experiment for us. There are some fake burger patties (Boca) that taste great. They also make a "Chik'n" patty that is as good as or better than, Tyson's chicken patties. Now, we're not the typical "vegetarians" since we're not doing this because of our love for animals. Personally, I believe that if God didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat. But due to the fact that neither of us is growing any younger, we figured this would be a healthy change. If any of you are interested in any of these recipes, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to send them to you, or post them on here. Don't get me wrong, I still love a good steak (or real burger) but, due to cholesterol and my family history, I figured this would help some of the damage that I've already done over the years. So far over the past three weeks or so we've both lost weight. I have lost about six pounds without doing anything else to assist the diet. I also stopped smoking on August 22nd and at this point, I should still be gaining weight. That hasn't happened either. I just thought I would let some of you know that there are healthy…and tasty…alternatives to the processed, fat, greasy foods we've all come to love.

Congratulations on your new healthy lifestyle. I have also been thinking about making changes. Yeah, just thinking doesn't do much, lol! I need to quit smoking, kudos to you for making it... almost a month! Quite an accomplishment. Are you using any quitting aids, patches or Rx's or anything? I try to go more than a couple of hours without a smoke, but then I turn into mega-witch (change the w to a b, lol).

I'd love to try some vegetarian dishes... seems like all I know how to cook is anything with pasta. And that is not good to eat all the time like I do.

Keep up the good work! You'll really notice results before you know it.

Actually, it's almost two months, but thanks. I haven't used any quitting aids aside from support from people where I work (I still occasionally go out with the smokers, just don't smoke), positive thinking (I start every day thinking it's going to be a great day and rarely has anything happened to change that), and the most important stop smoking aid around, the most wonderful wife in the world (because she's willing to put up with me for this long). I used to be extremely irritable anytime that I've tried to quit in the past, but not this time. I guess I was just ready to quit.

Is that Pink Floyd?

Congrats on the healthier lifestyle! I figured it would have been hard to do also. I wish my hubby would try to eat less meat and bread and more veggies.....one of the boys is the same way.

Its also good that you've quit smoking! I've been quit for about twelve years, and I STILL miss it! You can do it craftin_mom. Just prepare your mind and you can do it!
