Big Brother comes to Wartrace

In an article that I just read (http://www.t-g.com/story/1302700.html) it states that Wartrace is installing video cameras and DVRs for monitoring the downtown area and the CSX tracks in town. They even stated that this could be expanded to the town's park and recreation areas. Where does this sort of thing stop? Is there a stipulation that the cameras are to be pointed so as not to record the interior of any person's house, private property, or vehicle? If not, then what's to keep them from going back and reviewing these tapes for something that's not criminal, but possibly embarrassing for someone? And what's to keep whoever is viewing this from going out and telling everyone in town? Also, shouldn't CSX be responsible for monitoring its own tracks? It isn't like they are a small company that cannot afford it. I should know, I used to work at their headquarters in Jacksonville. With every car being fitted with a GPS and transmitter, you would think they would know something had occurred at the same time as the town, and they would be better able to react to a situation.

I just hate to see the whole video monitoring thing come to a small town like Wartrace. In my opinion, it's simply an invasion of privacy of every person that drives through the town.

Hmm...I'm beginning to wonder just how many people in this area have heard of Alex Jones.

Thom you are absolutely correct... If they REALLY want to find someone, it wouldn't be that hard. And puppydinks, you got it right, those books are amazing, and much of what they prophecy is actually happening..

Read the books "Brave New World" and "1984" - the future envisioned by both authors is happening!

There are satellites that can count the dimples on a golf ball and there are systems that have facial recognition and heat signature recognition. The government can find anyone they truly want to if that individual were to step outside into the sunlight. Note that I said they can find anyone they TRULY want to.

Won't be long and they'll be able to "see" through solid walls into our homes, bathrooms, bedrooms whatever all for "safety" and "security"!

Thank you Rashanjhanni's!

They may even be doing this now!

And to think of all these high tech satellite devices that we use.. Myself included. There is no telling what they can see, that we never even ponder. I have a GPS system in my car, and we have satellite television and radio.. and a cell phone. Big Brother, unfortunately knows entirely too much, and thus far the majority of what they know has come from riding the backs of giant corporations!

Exactly. I don't live in Wartrace, but I don't like the idea of having my every move monitored while I'm in town there. If I lived there, I would be outraged at this. I really can understand the video monitoring of the park, as long as it is posted conspicuously that you are being monitored, and the cameras are situated so that they would ONLY monitor the confines of the park. The monitoring of people's homes, backyards, or vehicles simply driving down the road is what bothers me.

I too feel that the new cameras in Wartrace go too far in the name of safety. The town should be required to provide to the community every angle that the cameras capture along with the capabilities of the cameras. If a private citizen's backyard can be viewed remotely from any camera then is this not a violation of our rights as Americans? What procedures have been followed to ensure that individual rights have been guaranteed? Since yesterdays report was the first mention of cameras being installed, my guess would be none at all.
