Concerned about the growing number of cameras used by the "authorities" to monitor our activities? Stay clear of Miami. According to a Reuters report, Miami police are looking to use aerial drones outfitted with electro-optic and infrared sensors if the FAA approves them. How are they supposed to get search warrants for all of those people they'll be "inadvertently" spying on?

Just to clear things up. and people that l ive in europe alot of times die waiting for the govt. to allow them to go to the doctor, we shouldnt have to ask mother may I everytime we want to go see the dr. then have to be put on a 6mo waiting list because they have a medical need.

This is true in some cases. I knew many Europeans when I lived in Florida. It did seem however, that they had better incomes, and were able to take more vacations than any American I know. As for our medical situation over here in the United States. Insurance is great, that is if you can afford it!!! In addition, people over here suffer, and cannot get medical treatment at all due to no insurance, and not enough income. It is sad that people go bankrupt over medical bills. There has to be a way to make insurance more affordable, or make medical care more accesible. I know someone right now dying of cancer, and she worries everyday how she is going to pay the medical bills that she is getting overwhelmed with, and that is with the insurance that she is struggling to pay.

You are correct greasemonkey about the the profit on a refined gallon of gas being smaller than the taxes paid on it, but that is only a small part of the oil companies total profits. The oil companies are making most of their profits on the crude oil they pump from the ground.

-- Posted by nathan.evans on Fri, May 2, 2008, at 8:47 AM

I was under the impression,(but I dont know where to find the figures) that the oil companies(and I believe we are getting gouged) profit something like $0.14/gal of gas and the government gets like $0.35/gal. I hope someone can find figures on that.

How do you figure that people making millions and billions of dollars only pay taxes on $94000. The top 20% of the income earners are paying something like 80% of the taxes.

Good point. I also finding it interesting, at the risk of sounding like I'm pro big business (how horrible), that: "While they (Exxon) were recording record profits last year, they were also writing checks to Uncle Sam to the tune of $100.7 billion -- two and a half times what they made in net profit. In fact, previous Tax Foundation research found that from 1977 to 2004, federal and state governments extracted $397 billion by taxing the profits of the largest oil companies and an additional $1.1 trillion in taxes at the pump. In today's dollars, that's $2.2 trillion." http://www.taxfoundation.org/blog/show/2...

So I guess when the rich get richer the government gets richer too. Where does it all go.

btw,

everytime I say something I always get a speech about the republicans and Bush. How many times do I have to say that I am not a republican and I dont like Bush, they are liars and thieves. I am conservative, and belong to no political party. Just to clear things up. and people that live in europe alot of times die waiting for the govt. to allow them to go to the doctor, we shouldnt have to ask mother may I everytime we want to go see the dr. then have to be put on a 6mo waiting list because they have a medical need.

Lechat,

I apologize it should have read "Bush has not stuck to..." When I say redistribution of wealth I mean that Barrack or Hillary will increase tax on all income levels to pay for all these programs their coming up with. It amounts to having more tax payers to compensate for the increase in tax recievers. I was leaning towards Fred Thompson but I was never for sure because he said some things I didnt like.

Darrick_04,

How do you figure that people making millions and billions of dollars only pay taxes on $94000. The top 20% of the income earners are paying something like 80% of the taxes. The people making below 25000 really arent paying taxes in the long run, because alot of them get EIC and they get back more taxes than they pay in. Then when the income drops even more you have people on govt. programs like food stamps, govt. housing and welfare so not only do they not pay taxes they get paid not to. If the govt. wants to pay people to stay in poverty why on earth would anyone want to try to better themselves when the govt. provides all their needs. For example, I work with a boy who makes about 7.00/hr. He refuses to work any overtime, even though we are asked to work all the hours we want, because he would lose his govt. programs. He lives with his gf and refuses to get married because the would lose the appx. $700 dollars a month in food stamps and the govt. would stop paying for his apartment. They have absolutely no bills except ciggarettes and gas, because the govt pays for everything else. Why on earth would they want to do any better for themselve when me and you are paying their bills with our hard work.

Lets see, socialized health care, socialized medicine, severe redistribution of wealth.-- Posted by greasemonkey on Thu, Mar 27, 2008, at 10:39 PM

Just honestly talk to REAL people in European countries who are living longer, healthier and happeier lives, working less, having more free time, and just as much money as Americans...

I personally have insurance, have always had and probably will continue to carry private insurance. Barack, I know, and possibly Hillary are not telling people who DO have healthcare, that they must drop the private label and force to succumb to government regulated healthcare. They are simply requesting that in AMERICA, we don't leave 50,000,000 people behind just because we'd rather spend nearly a trillion dollars in foreign wars, that gain nothing for the people of this country... If Bush and his regime can print money of out thin air and send it to all the taxpayers in May, why can't Congress instead put that towards the debt, perhaps spend it on education, or hell put a drop in the bucket to social security. There are ways of fixing the problems, you just have to agree to the solutions.

I don't think Hillary or Obama are asking for "socialized medicine" they are however going to require the medicinal company to act ethicly and cut out the MILLIONS of dollars in tax breaks that they get every time they lobby Congress. If you want to know the most crooked industries/corporations in America, the only thing you have to do is figure out who they are donating to and for what reason...

As for the "redistribution of wealth"... Do you think it's fair that someone who makes millions and/or BILLIONS of dollars every year, is only taxed for the first $94,000? I don't...Why? Because, if there is a cut off for the wealthy, why not the poor? Let's say, if you make BELOW $25,000 you can not have taxes withdrawn... It only seems fair.

Lastly, McCain has no economic solutions, his speech he gave a week ago, was the EXACT same speech he gave in 2000 when running for president... Search the transcripts... All I know, is the last 8 years have been absolute termoil. We've waged illegal wars, watched a corrupt illegitimately elected president take the rights away from its people and has not once admitted to a mistake. It's quite evident that there have been numerous mistakes in the past 8 years, the only problem is, none of them have effected him. When you have a president who is out of touch with reality, you shouldn't ask yourself why he doesn't care, and why his VP says "So What?" when asked how the American people feel about the war, etc....

We've seen what the Republicans did when they had absolute control of Congress and the White House... They didn't raise taxes, yet our debt has doubled, we've lost soldiers in a quagmire that was set up from the get go, watched corporations reap their highest profits in the history of their existence, inflation at its hightest point in 17 years, the housing market in a stark downturn, high unemployment, continually low wages that do not equate to cost of living expenses, I could go on and on. The only thing left to do, is give someone else a chance, or you could always say "so what"...

well, something needs to be done about the health care and medical situation in this country for the millions of people unable to get health care. Where did you read about the redistribution of wealth...I want my fair share! Greasemonkey, you said that Bush has stuck to the constitution...in what way? He is closer to a Nazi dictator than an American. Of all the candidates that were in the running before narrowing down these last few...who would you have chosen?

-- Posted by leChat on Sun, Mar 30, 2008, at 12:18 AM

Lets see, socialized health care, socialized medicine, severe redistribution of wealth. If you will look at the main principles of socialism you would think that you are reading the campaign website for Barrack or Hillary. I do agree though that Bush has stuck to the constitution, and I also believe that McCain is a photocopy of Bush just pushed a little more to the left. So no, there is no candidate worth voting for. We are a country void of rational leadership, and we are in big big trouble.

-- Posted by greasemonkey on Thu, Mar 27, 2008, at 10:39 PM

Hey greasemonkey, could you tell me what Barack and Hillary will do that is so socialized... There is another blog or news story on the site where this issue has been discussed in depth.

But as far as voting along party lines, I don't either. I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries, because he offered the most common sense, rationl approaches to nearly every major issue. You know how he did that? He sticks strictly to the Constitution. Something Bush, McCain, and many others could never do.

-- Posted by darrick_04 on Thu, Mar 27, 2008, at 9:45 PM

Amen, greasemonkey! I don't vote along party lines, but the democrats definitely aren't offering anything any better! It is, without a doubt, the most inept choice of candidates I've seen in 30 years!

Michael Jackson did background vocals on this song.

-- Posted by titansfan on Thu, Mar 27, 2008, at 8:08 AM

I wont be voting for the liberal Republican and I definitely wont be voting for the other two Socialists. I am not familiar with the Constitution party, but anything has to be better than our current choices.

-- Posted by greasemonkey on Thu, Mar 27, 2008, at 12:18 AM

I'm waiting to see who the Constitution Party brings to the dance. I know that they don't stand a snowball's chance at this point, but it's got to start somewhere.

-- Posted by Thom on Wed, Mar 26, 2008, at 11:20 PM

Then I hope you aren't voting for a Republican this year.

-- Posted by darrick_04 on Wed, Mar 26, 2008, at 10:53 PM

I would hate to know any governing body could just watch us at any given time they liked. Its a little to spooky for me, because its like opening pandoras box. Next thing you know they will have cameras in our living rooms.

-- Posted by greasemonkey on Wed, Mar 26, 2008, at 10:33 PM

Nope, it was Rockwell, the guy's real name is Kennedy William Gordy. He's the son of Berry Gordy, Jr. (Motown CEO).

-- Posted by Thom on Wed, Mar 26, 2008, at 7:23 PM

Okay, Thom, is this title from a Michael Jackson song? I have the chorus going on in my head, but wasn't sure if he sang it.

-- Posted by Mike Molder on Wed, Mar 26, 2008, at 6:52 PM

I have found out that places like our schools that have camera's are no good. When they claimed my son did something he has promised he did not do and 2 cameras were right there. I went to the school and asked to see the tape that was on at the time. To see for myself. I was told that there was no tape. I asked WHY and was just told "because there is no tape" He was in I.S.S. for 5 days for something he said he did not do. They could not prove to me that he did it. I am also not for these camera's..They are talking about putting 2 camera's on the school bus's. One on the inside and one on the outside. The outside one is for people that do not stop . Then they will get the tag number and mail them a ticket. I am not sure that will work. What do all of you think ?? Look at the woman that went missing at Walmart in Dec. and they saw a man on a bike leave the area of her car on a bike. They said they could not tell who it was. That it was not close enough. Maybe I have watched to much T.V. but I thought you could take the film and zoom in on it and get a better look. The camera's are good for some things BUT then some people use them when they should never be used. What is the old saying Damn if you do and Damn if you don't.

Warrants?! We don't need no stinking warrants!

Yeah, I'm not sure I like the idea of someone being able to "watch" me when they feel like it. I Love my privacy!

If they only used this technology for extreame cases, then thats fine, but if they are bored and want to use it to entertain themselves, then there will be a lot of angry, violated people.
