California is signing agreements with the U.N.?

Yep, California signed an agreement with the United Nations to help China reduce its emissions of "greenhouse gases". If you're unsure of what gases are "greenhouse gases" then exhale…that's one of them according to the wackos that decide these things. If we could get everyone in California to stop running their mouths about "global warming" then we wouldn't have to worry about high levels of carbon dioxide. Anyway, California has now agreed to help China to reduce their "greenhouse gas" emissions. Umm…isn't there a constant haze over San Diego, Los Angeles, and San Francisco? That would be akin to having Michael Vick teach you how to treat your dogs humanely.
Oh and, get this, according to the Washington Post the SUV's that people here aren't buying because of the oil prices, are selling big-time in China…just like L.A. It really does sound like they're taking their cues from California. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I love how people go out of their way to discredit global warming and then how some people take it to the extreme. My opinion is this . . . what does it hurt to try and make it a cleaner planet? If the whole idea isn't exactly true then you really haven't hurt anything by cutting down carbon emissions but what if global warming does exist? I would rather be safe than sorry.
Also, I love when people bring up the fact that people exhale carbon dioxide so somehow it means that it is ok to have as many vehicles as possible doing the same thing. People also expel urine and feces but that doesn't make it safe to eat and drink nor do you want to inhale it either.
Believe me, I am not a tree hugger or someone that goes around and lives by the idea of global warming. I just see it like I do religion . . . sure, we don't have physical proof that God exist but wouldn't we rather be safe and do the right thing just in case? Sure, we can enjoy the moment and do whatever we want but what happens if we get to the end and all of a sudden we find out God actually does exist and all of a sudden our choices in life with be judge against us. The same goes with global warming . . . I would rather do things that help improve the environment no matter if global warming exists or not but of Global warming actually does exist then we tried to do something about it instead of making it worse.
I am a proud tree hugger and am seriously upset how deluded some people can be to the very real threat of Global Warming, It's happening now and we as a nation can help stop it. If you are too blind to notice then there is nothing I can do for you. I love helping my planet, donating money, recycling, planting trees and spreading the word. A little research into Global Warming and it's effects wouldn't kill anybody. Ask the Eskimos, that are going with out food if it's real, go find out about the Polar Bears and penguins that are slowly losing their habitats.
Nothing worse than being blind to reality, It's sad really. You can ignore it all you want, but it's happening and it's real and it's going to continue until EVERYONE wakes up and tries to make the Earth a better, cleaner place to live.
I mean how hard is it to change a light bulb? Recycle your plastics? Plant a tree? Lower the thermostat on your hot water heater and your air conditioner units? Not hard at all and it saves you some money in the long run.
If all this green living seems too "new fangled",try thinking of it as the sort of low-key,responsible lifestyle our ancestors had (and most of the world still does) and try to overlook the addition of super-efficient,super-healthy modern technologies.
If we can get past green living being humane, frugal and available to everyone at some level, maybe we could see some merit in it.
(Even if hypocrites and the impractical seem to be its most notorious supporters.)
I am all for recycling and keeping our environment clean and would rather use the word "conservation" instead of "global warming", since I'm not yet a believer in that theory. I think each of us should do what's possible in our little corner to keep it clean and recycle. My biggest concern is being mandated by the federal government that I have to use a certain type of light bulb because it is "environmentally safer." The mercury in the CFL bulb is an envronmental hazard and for people a neurotoxin, with even a warning that they must be disposed of properly (even my accidental watching of Oprah yesterday had the warning). If Edison can make an incandescent bulb that is still working today(go visit his summer home in Florida), why can our bulb manufacturers do that now? I may not believe in global warming, but I'm with jaxspike, I want to do it because conservation is a good thing, but I don't want to see it legislated.
Ok, since some of you obviously know so much more about this "very real threat of global warming", please enlighten us. Exactly how far back are you going and how much has the Earth warmed in that amount of time? I would love for someone to come right out and tell everyone that people are destroying the planet because the temperature has risen 0.28 degrees in the past 10,000 years (according to the Isotopic Temperature Record from the Vostok Ice Core). I don't believe the industrial revolution had occurred at that point.
Do I think that it is our responsibility to take care of our environment? Heck yeah I do. Sharon22, you've got it right. Conservation is precisely what we should be concerned with. I think that we should go back to having a better respect for the land that we live on and live off of, but the global warming people are as bad as the people that think that the United States government masterminded the attack on the World Trade Center.
Back to the original intent of this blog:
I just don't think that the state of California is the right group to assist China in their environmental efforts. California's smog is a huge problem, and China already has that.
I agree with Sharon22 I believe in conservation I just dont want it legislated down our throats.
And who knows why California does half the silly stuff they do. How do they expect to help China, and why would China want their help.
