Here's your sign...wait, where'd the sign go?

Ok, I understand that there are only a couple of candidates that even put up yard signs in Bell Buckle, so there's no way to do this without indicating the race. Last night I went out to walk one of my dogs and noticed that the yard sign that I had in my yard for a candidate for School Board was gone from my yard. I assumed that the candidate had pulled up some yard signs off of the lesser travelled streets in town to put them on Webb Rd. When I talked to this candidate's wife today and asked about the sign, just to make sure they got it, I was told that no, that a lot of their signs were stolen last night. I did notice that the opposing candidate's signs were all pretty much still there. I thought that was rather odd.

I DO NOT THINK THIS OTHER CANDIDATE STOLE THE SIGNS. But if one of their supporters went around stealing the signs out of yards because they wanted their candidate re-elected, that's pretty crappy. I mean, it's the School Board, c'mon. If it were just some random theft of signs, then they would have stolen more than just the one candidate's signs.

I just hope that whoever it was had a good use for plastic and wire signs...seems like they have a lot of them now. If you happen to see anyone with an excess of these signs, please report them to the police.

Thom:

I love your controversial topics...they are the bomb!! You seem to really know a lot about government issues. Just curious, what is your point of view regarding this most controversial presidential race of the century? On the other hand, I guess this blog might cause a lot of vicious comments when people disagree. I wish people could share there different point of views more tactfully, but there is always some crazy Irish guy like O'Reilly screaming in your face to "Shut Up" after inviting you on his show to discuss your views with him...LOL

Evil Monkey:

Because you care so much for our school system & youth, maybe you could start a debate club to teach our young ones how to tactfully express their point of views & respect others opinions even when they are not the same as yours. Maybe a debate class should be an elective in high school. We could all benefit from it.

Big Hugs & little kisses,

Sounds like you might have been there.

Believe me! The least of the two evils won the race for school board. Nice concession party though.

I'm very partriotic about voting. It's not a right, it's a DUTY. For me to sit at home on election day and take no part in the election of our next round of leaders is just a thing that I cannot conceive. For me to walk into the polls without some idea of what I'm there to do? That would just be failing in those duties. Most people care who you vote for. I just care that you vote...and have some idea as to why you voted for who you did.

Thom,

Alot of people are very patriotic about voting, they know it is their right and obligation. Especially the men and woman who dedicated their lives to winning WWII. So when they go to the polls they look at the ballots and recognize a name and thats how they cast their vote. Back then it was the norm and worked out well, Now? You have to be careful or you get Nepotism.

cfrich, I think that it was a great way to expend your time and energy. Personally, I think that it's great to keep people on their toes. When I went to vote, the woman at the table told me that there was a sample ballot posted in case I didn't know who was running. Umm...if you don't know who's running, what in the world are you even doing at the poll?

"Aww, get off of cfrich...At least she can spell.

I almost choked on my juice when I read this. :)

If a sign is in my yard, thats my property. And if someone takes it, not only is it stealing but its also tresspassing.

Our little district has a bad reputation from the past. And some people have signs that says Tresspassers will be shot on the spot. So a little advice to the sign stealers, beware of where you steal from and whos property you go on. You might wind up with a sign yourself like "R I P".

cfrich,Too bad you didnt put as much effort into helping your comunity when you were younger instead of wasting so much time on making up a fake canidate. Hopefully you have grown up and put your time into something more productive.

Sign stealing in Bedford County elections has been going on for years. In fact, most counties like ours have the same problem.

It's just a matter of a few ignorant people who think they are doing something go for the person they support. Actually, it makes their candidate look foolish to have people of low character actually trying to help them win.

nascarfanatic - no, he didn't win. I just wish he had, it would have made for a better story. Although there were articles in the local paper about the signs and flyers asking who he was.

Have you seen the youtube video where one candidate caught another stealing his signs?

-- Posted by Monkey Killer on Fri, Aug 8, 2008, at 9:04 AM

Did the candidate win?

Not the same thing, but when I was a senior in high school my friends and I made up a fake candidate for an upcoming election. We made flyers, which we posted everywhere, as well as signs for people's lawns, which we just put on random lawns. Then when it was election day, which we had off from school, we went to various voting places and handed out pins and stickers for our 'candidate.'

The candidate was actually another friend of ours from school who was not happy about our prank.
