The Great American Sell-out....err...Bail-out.

Ok, I would absolutely love to know how many people contacted our "representatives", Bart Gordon, Lamar Alexander, and Bob Corker to express their wishes that they vote FOR a bill that took tax-payer money and gave it to fat-cat wealthy...nay...FILTHY RICH people that have taken the corporations that they were charged with managing and run them into the ground. I'm sure the farmers that live in this area are so very glad for the opportunity to donate to help out these poor people that are going to leave their jobs with MILLIONS of, most likely, tax dollars. Oh and, lest we forget, all of the wonderful earmarks that were included in this wonderful piece of legislation. At least they didn't bother to vote for the original THREE PAGE bill and opted for the Senate version that was ENGORGED with so many amendments and earmarks that it swelled to FOUR HUNDRED FIFTY-ONE pages. I'm certain that, even though I didn't realize it, I was just wishing that my "representatives" in Washington, D.C. (District of Cash) would give more money to earmarks, tax exemptions, and tax incentives for things like "motorsports racing track facility" (Sec. 317), "Railroad track maintenance" (Sec. 316...umm, isn't Amtrak already subsidized by us?), "Indian reservations" (Sec. 314 & 315...guess the tribal casinos aren't doing well enough), "Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands Rum" (Sec. 308), "film and television productions" (Sec. 502...Yeah, 'cause we all know how poor Hollywood is), And my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE EARMARK OF ALL TIME:

Exemption from excise tax for certain wooden arrows designed for use by children. (WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS ALL ABOUT?)

These, in addition to the NUMEROUS other earmarks, tax exemptions, and tax incentives, are the reason that the "representatives" in Washington, D.C. (District of Cash) should all be replaced at our earliest convenience. This was nothing more than rich politicians lining the pockets of the wealthy businessmen (and women) that lined their campaigns' pockets.

With the number of federal investigations that are supposedly ongoing regarding the current financial situation why, in God's name, would you possibly consider rewarding the companies that have run themselves into the ground until those are concluded? Personally, I don't think we should reward them at all. Capitalism is dead folks, welcome to Socialist America.

Senators Alexander & Corker, and Representative Gordon:

You three should be ashamed of the way that you rolled over for this bill that was promoted by Washington and the media. I have asked numerous people about this bill and I have had EXACTLY ZERO people tell me that they thought this was a good idea. Granted, this is no scientific survey, but I would wager that it's one hell of a lot more accurate than any survey that you might have conducted with your CONSTITUENTS (right, like you three would have bothered). You do remember who your constituents are, don't you? I certainly hope so, because I certainly hope your constituents remember you during the next election and will remember you for the extra $700-810 BILLION DOLLAR DEBT that you just handed us. I know I will. Since none of the three of you have most likely even looked at this thing, here's a link to the bill that you can download if you'd like: http://www.taxpayer.net/user_uploads/fil...

Great blog... and that picture is so fitting! I am disgusted with this entire process from both sides of the aisle...

I agree . . . this is just another example of how the government doesnt work for the people and the two main candidates running for president are part of the problem too.

Oh well, all I can do is let my voice be heard on election day and not vote for any of these individuals who supported corporations before the American citizen.

Let's do it, have everyone fired in Congress and do a whole new voting in our country to put fresh unblemished representatives of the people's voice! How does one do that? I am serious and so disturbed about this!

I wish that could happen but so many Americans are indifferent to what happens around them that it would be hard to do plus both political parties would make it almost impossible to do because they would try and set limits that support their rhetoric.

Not every Congressman or woman needs to be voted out. Some are doing remarkable jobs, those that you never seen in headline news.

Now I am scared. I'm in agreement with all of you. But seriously, for the last 3 election cycles I have employed the VOI princple (vote out incumbents). If in office ,regardless of who they are, I vote against them. If it only worked it would keep them from becoming entrenched in a job that (as soon as they are elected) they turn around and immediately start running again. And do it on our time when they should be doing the job that they are elected for.

Seems like we are not alone on this one. Perhaps this does show the tumultuous greed of the banks on a grand scale.

Being a student in the College of Business it is difficult to always understand this global economy. But the overall problem is that success if sweet, because most economies experience it simultaneously, on the other hand, we are obviously seeing them revel in the failures together.

I am staunchly opposed to this "privatize the profits, socialize the losses" mantra being paraded by Congress and the executive office.

Something had to be done, but just remember, the very same folks who sold us the war in Iraq (as being necessary), are now selling us the grandiose notion that we ought to bailout corporations who forgot how to do business.

Both measures are ends to justify the means mindsets, and both will have negative effects on our country, in ways that are unforeseeable.

It seems Neel Kashkari is going to be overseeing the 700 Billion dollar bailout along with Paulson.

I guess he would be as good of a choice as anyone else. The only problem I have with either of them is they are BOTH former employees of Goldman Sacs one of the banks who just happen to be in big trouble.

Am I just too mad about all this to see the forest for the trees or does that stink like yesterdays leftover fish to you?

Oh so its good when the government steps in to pay welfare for those who wont work, but when they try to save the economy its bad?

This plan isnt going to cost anymore than the money we spend every year paying to lock up "criminals" for drug use.

And I guess you think throwing 700+Billion at people who make millions of dollars on the dimes of the poor is a great idea.

Why don't you just set back and watch these big CEO's sail off on their Yachts and fly away on their Lear Jets provided at the expense of the tax payers.

Maybe you should read about Lehman Brother's $20,000,000 in 'bonuses' 4 days before Bankruptcy?

Then try to tell me who should be paying for this mess...
