Would a hanging Democrat be tolerated?Posted Monday, October 27, 2008, at 10:47 PM
Article about a West Hollywood man that hung a mannequin dressed like Sarah Palin by a noose and had "John McCain" coming out of a flaming chimney.
My question is, if this were the Democrat party candidates, would this just be "art" or would it be what some people think is a "hate crime"? I guarantee you that there would be feds all over this guy if it were Obama and Biden (regardless of which was hanging). I think you're asking the wrong question here... Perhaps the right question is why should either be tolerated?
Thing is, is neither one should be tolerated. Both are signs of the failure of the people of this great nation to be capable of civilized discourse.
Until we, as citizens of this great nation, are less interested in one-upping the "other side", and more interested in actually working to improve our nation, it's not going to matter. We've gotten to the point where we're more interested in talking "at" each other instead of talking to each other. Keeping the conversation on the actions of the lunatic fringe on either side of the aisle is ultimately counter-productive.
When the "children" of the electorate can talk to each other like grownups, oh what a great day that will be for our country.
God help us until that day.
No, it is wrong for a noose to be around any of the canadites (mannequin) neck, or any kind of violent act for that matter, may be considered a threat to potential president, but it would be taken as a racial attempt more so if it was a mannequin of Obama. Being that he made the comment that people would consider it racist if he had Obama up their, yet he still used a noose to hang the mannequin any way, still leaves a question of his true motive to me. Why not have her standing or sitting with some kind of scarry look on its face, or funny thing happening with it. To me that is more halloween, this is more of a negative political messaging to me. "Not Halloween".
Of course not Thom . . . because there is definitely a double standard in today's society plus we all know the media would have been all over it if it had been an Obama mannequin because of the definite bias that exists among the media outlets.
Either way, it is sad that the election has come to that. Ignorance exists on both sides and that is why I am voting for a third party candidate because the Democratic Party has sunken to the levels of the Republican Party and might have even gone lower and I will not support that. For a campaign that supposedly stands on the platform of hope and change, it sure does incite a lot of negativity itself.
If you really want an answer to your question, check yesterday's news concerning the "skin heads" plotting to assassinate Obama. The feds watch these groups constantly to ward off any attacks on Him. These extremists are wrong and should be stopped in their tracks, but people with warped senses of humor who plant sick ideas into other people's heads should also be stopped. It seems white people sometimes suffer from reverse discrimination in that our rights and protections are not guarded as well as those of many minorities.
Remember the media frenzy and visits by Jesse and Al to Jena, La. a few months back. All this and here only nooses were hung from a tree with "no one" in them. I cannot imagine anyone denying the "outrage" had Obama's effigy been in the noose.
This is an ugly act no matter which candidate it is. I am thankful to God that I was raised not to have hatred or prejudice in my heart. We are Americans and should come together as Americans and not act barbaric as some other countries do.While this person thinks this is cute, he only shows how ignorant he really is.David, if it does not matter to you either way, why did you even bring it up to start with?
Very very wrong.I have one for you.Yesterday My son and I went to Party City .That is a place were you can buy almost any Halloween outfit you can think of. There were a couple of boys in there looking for a Obama outfit to were to a party. They started talking to my son. One was going as Obama and the other ones were going as KKK. Now that is wrong!!!!! Also what you were talking about was wrong too. Either way you look at it is wrong. I heard yesterday on the news that they picked up 2 or 3 men that were planning on making a hit on Obama. It was on channel 2 news.
Thom please forgive me for getting your name wrong in my comment. Sorrrry!
McCain and a chimney suggests they're about two months off as well as having a nasty sense of "humor".
Hanging an effigy of Sarah Palin is a new riff as opposed to hanging an Obama surrogate.
Beautiful women are usually dispatched by knives or throttled by hand, scarf, etc. and, today, are shown stuffed in refrigerators.
Her fictional demise is too close to reality to have even the hint of parody that McCain's calamity does.
If they'd had a Pilgrim chasing feathered versions of the candidates with a caption like "November 4 is no time to select a turkey",that would be marginally funny.
We need to preserve our good leaders and we don't need to make martyrs out of the foolish or self-serving.
I guess it's easier to insult and attack folks than it is to challenge them and work to achieve appropriate goals.
The folks we oppose and those we endorse could use our learning about the issues and applying our energies to producing positive change.
Sorry folks, the "Personally, I don't really care either way since I've already voted" wasn't meant for this blog. I messed up. As for bringing this up, the reason for doing so was to showcase how the local newspaper had an article on it but if the parties were reversed, there would be a witch-hunt the likes of which Salem, Massachusetts has never seen. I don't think hanging an effigy of either of the Presidential candidates or the Vice-Presidential candidates should be accepted by any community.
Thom . . . this should answer your question.
