Woo-Hoo! Everyone's content with everything...except for the President.Posted Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at 10:45 PM
I honestly cannot believe the virtually across the board sweep of the incumbents in Tennessee. That's unbelievable. So, why did everyone bother to waste their time?

Nothing but complacency... We saw the same thing with the school board... When will it end? Who knows?
A few of the incumbents absolutely deserved to stay. Tracy, Cobb among others....
I remember looking for Chad Grahams name to vote on and don't recall seeing it.
Mom of 3, if you didn't live in the Ward that Chad represented, it wasn't on your ballot. That is probably the reason.
Citizens of the World, there's a new dawn in America".
These are the words that Senator Barack Hussein Obama told the throngs in Chicago tonight.
All those who supported the ONE, you are among those listed below that.
Bet the world didn't realize it was Obama's constituency. Wager some Americans who voted him in didn't know it either.
Hollywood, mainstream media sycophants and the international Rogue's Gallery were jumping for joy. Fidel Castro was happy, so too were Hugo Chavez, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il, and for all we know Osama bin Laden. If not him, then his bloodthirsty minions.
Guess Jane Fonda, Erica Jong and Naomi Wolf came out of their stress analysis also. And Tina Fey does not have to blast off to Mars to live in exile.
We must be careful what we wish for. Sometimes those wishes are granted.
Maybe,it's the "devil you know" phenomenon-or Tennesseans thought they'd done well to start with and didn't need to change horses mid-stream.
We have been known to demand a clean sweep even when term limits and such haven't assured we'd have fresh blood.
Since we usually have a balance of the new and old, maybe local voters decided to compensate for the new face in the White House by keeping known quantities here at home.
Let's see what occurs in two years.
The people who like the new Chief Executive and the ones who don't may both see the administration that was just selected as a reason to bring in a different set of officials to meet the public's needs.
LOL Thom, I take it you are disapointed in the outcome of who was chose for President.
Oh well, I guess we now know how much it cost to buy the presidency in today's times. Oh well, in four years we will be electing a new president anyway.
Dare to Hope. Prepare to be Disappointed.
I guess it cant be too bad. I will get free healthcare and a welfare check. I dont have to work as hard now, because I know what will happen as I climb the ladder. I was just on the verge of buying my first home, but why would I want the responsibility. I will just wait until the govt decides I need one, and they will buy me one. I will be well educated though, when the govt pays for my college. I wont have to worry about buying ammunition anymore, because the govt will have my guns. I can also take that big gun cabinet out, now I will have more floor space. I can quit getting upset about all these illegals destroying our country, because they will get amnesty and wont be illegal anymore. That will be less stressful for sure.
63,000,000 people just told you two to shut your mouth!
Greasmonkey,
You used the word "I" 14 times in one comment.. There is a reason your opinion didn't win this time, because it isn't about just you.
Greasemonkey . . . have you seen anywhere that shows how many votes Baldwin got in Bedford County or Tennessee?
Yeah, because of Obama's win I now know the government is going to help buy me a new computer! I don't know why in the world I have been working so hard for a living for all these years when I could have just voted someone like Obama in and all would be taken care of. :-P
This woman thinks so too!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3...
And yeah, you will definitely have an influx of illegal aliens now since they will know they will be granted amnesty in the near future. SO, YES WE CAN!
Just glad it's over... and I am so glad he won convincingly.
It is time they ALL work together... or we could continue down this road of fear and divisiveness as it seems some people still want.
63,000,000 people just told you two to shut your mouth!

63,000,000 people voted their convictions. Another 55,000,000+ voted theirs. Unless you have something constructive to say shut your mouth.
Vindicated . . . this is America and we have the first amendment. I guess you forget about such things.
And really, you are just one of the few on here that shouldn't say a word period. After you made the comment about insinuating I was gay because I wasn't voting for Obama, I have no use for someone as pathetic as you.
Now when you have the nerve to say that to my actual face then maybe you can comment.
I wish it was that easy darrick_04 . . . too bad you spent most of your time during the campaign process being one of those who promoted divisiveness with your hateful comments.
Darrick, Vindacated,
I am so happy that the two of you and the other 63,000,000 are happy that you got what you wanted.
More than that I hope that I am wrong and for the next four years Obama proves himself to be the best President this country has ever had.
I'll be checking back with y'all in about four years to see if you are still happy with your choice. God Bless America!
William
jaxspike, here are the Bedford County results.

It is better to want what you don't have, then to have what you don't want. I think we are going to find that out the hard way. Here comes the change.
OOOPS sorry that should have been Vindicated, not VindAcated.
Thank you Vindicated!!! I am so glad some one finally said that.
If people had voted on the issues and not on "historical value" I'd have felt a lot better about this. Each time I asked anyone why they were voting for Obama about 60% of the time I was told it was time for a black president. What a racist comment! I was called a racist for voting for McCain! I could care less if he was purple. I do however care about moral issues. There is no greate issue than LIFE. I'm in the minority on that one apparently.
There is ONE ruler of this world. Even if some do not choose to put God first, He will still be and always will be first. I already have a Savior...I was looking for a president.
Vindicated,
63,000,000!!!WOW thats alot of kool aid. I can see your cup over runneth with it. I am tickled to death that you can count that high, I really am. I voted for what I believe in, and that most other people do to. The only difference is most people either voted to make history or voted against another candidate. Some of us could think for our self and voted our convictions. I still believe in this country and I love it. So no I will not shut my mouth. I will most likely get louder and louder, until Obama and our new Socialist States of America takes away my 1st amendment rights.
In a poll last night I saw a survey where people said they were more interested in CHANGE than morals. How sad! "Change", that is a good slogan line and it won the presidency. We all want change for the better and I hope that is what we get. It bothers me that our country would sacrificed its morals to get this change. (Some people may have been voting change and been unaware of the moral convictions of the two candiates).
At this point we don't know what CHANGE is going to happen. It might be good or it might be bad. We'll see...
There is ONE ruler of this world. Even if some do not choose to put God first, He will still be and always will be first. I already have a Savior...I was looking for a president. titanup1
AMEN so was I.

titanup1,
Now, that was good. It said a lot about what has happened. If only a few of the easily mesmerized young generation could have escaped his deception. I noticed at a lot of his victory celebrations it looked more like a spring break video of intoxicated youths?
I wonder what good ole Super Talk Radio is doing? Wallowing in their hate and fear I'm sure... HAHA.
I wonder what all the homosexuals are wallowing in?
I dont have a clue what there doing on supertalk, but I know that I am feeling some real fear. For the first time ever, I am scared of what the govt is going to do to me, or take from me. On top of that, there still isnt anyone saying why they voted for Obama except for Change, and the fact he will be the first black president. Thats all anyone has to say, its really sad.
"I wonder what all the homosexuals are wallowing in?"
as someone noted earlier,
you do seem to have some sort of fixation.
Greasemonkey . . . . if we used the mentality that Vindicated used, he should be the one shutting up since McCain easily won both Tennessee and Bedford County. Fortunately for him we at least have enough intelligence to know better than to deny anyone's right to express their opinion no matter how right or wrong we might perceive it to be. Unfortunately he and a few others love to spew forth hateful comments and avoid civilized debate. Sad really!
Derrick_04 . . . conservative radio will do just fine just like liberal radio has done for the past decade or so except for the fact conservative radio has always done better on radio and far exceeds revenue and stations than liberal radio talk shows. I am sure this will motivate them even more and I am sure they will have plenty to talk about during Obama's many missteps.
I personally hope Obama does an amazing job because if he does then it is to my benefit . . . it does not benefit me at all if he fails and makes matters worse. Unfortunately like many people, I see past his promises of change and see a failure of an economic policy that rewards complacency and punishes those who excel. While many were enticed by Obama's promises of tax cuts, they don't realize those tax cuts will be neutralized or irrelevant when Obama's other economic policies forces businesses to lay off or get rid of employees due to inflation and higher taxes. Also, Obama will eventually have to increase taxes due to the increasing deficit he will create and then those little tax cuts will mean nothing.
Oh well, the choice has been made and he will be president but don't expect to tell people who didn't vote for Obama to just shut up. Did Democrats shut up the past eight years during Bush? No, and that is what is so great about being American . . . the freedom of speech. You can't silence almost half the nation . . . if Obama was such an amazing choice then why didn't he win by a landslide on popular votes? All opinions should be respected and people like darrick_04 and vindicated need to learn that lesson well just like others who come on here and preach hate and rhetoric like parkerbrothers and Michael Bell. Being on the extreme right or left does not make you better than the other . . . . it is still the same but just painted with another shade of color. Unfortunately moderate voters like me though are the ones who have to suffer from those extreme thinkers.
Derrick_04 = darrick_04 . . . I thought I corrected that but evidently not.
LOL... ;)
jaxspike,
Truth and fact are almost always regaurded as fear and hate by ones the truth and fact applies to.
It also will almost always promt the number one responce (excuse) of...."you are not supposed to judge".
"I wonder what all the homosexuals are wallowing in?"
as someone noted earlier,
you do seem to have some sort of fixation.

lazarus,
That current growing problem is probably one of the things we should all be fixated and focused on speaking out against before our youth is deceived into thinking it is an acceptable way of life.
What??? Wait a dog gone minute!! I thought everything was going to be all sunshine and butterflies now? :>)
parkerbrothers . . . truth and fact in regards to some of your comments is very suspect at times. It is comments like yours though at times that causes people to assume all people think like you in their decision to not vote for Obama and that is not true. I do not believe that Obama is the anti-Christ nor do I think is a Muslim . . . I just strongly agree with his economic polices and what direction he wants to take this country. When you use invalid stereotypes to characterize someone and base it on your opinion on religion then not only do you make your own argument invalid but you cause other people to think all of one group thinks the same and that is not true.
But really . . . I think I am done with the whole political discussion until it comes a time in which I can freely say "I told you so" or I am forced to eat humble pie. Time will only tell on that. I am not perfect nor do I presume to know all . . . I just vote and make decisions on how it relates to me and the environment I am surrounded by. I voted what my heart dictated and I make no excuses for that nor does it make me a bad person.
Jaxspike,
Do not give up on political discussion. I need a little bit of back up in here, lol. I dont think it will be long before we can break out the "I told you so".
I meant to say I strongly disagree with Obama's economic policies in my last comment . . . I swear, my fingers are lazy today.
I am by no means happy about the outcome of the election, but I will respect Obama because he is our next President. However, I do not agree with the way everything was blown out of proportion when it was announced that he won. I am on MTSU's campus and it was ridiculous the number of comments that the African Americans here directed at the white people. I was offended by a few, espeacially since I was keeping to myself and have no problem with African Americans. I did not agree with Obama's views of issues and for me it was not an issue of color, but for some reason for the majority of the people at this college, it was. And that in itself is a sad thing to say.
Thats because all the blacks that voted for him think they will be living on easy street. They are going to have FREE health care and FREE education and more FREE money. His whole campaign was smoke and mirrors, when the smoke clears people aren't going to like what they see in the mirror.
LOL Thom, I take it you are disapointed in the outcome of who was chose for President.

Actually, I was disappointed with the options. I would have been just as disappointed with McCain.
I was offended by a few, espeacially since I was keeping to myself and have no problem with African Americans. I did not agree with Obama's views of issues and for me it was not an issue of color, but for some reason for the majority of the people at this college, it was. And that in itself is a sad thing to say.

schs_senior,
You should be offended. You have probably been raised to treat everyone equally regardless of their skin color, like most of us have.
From CNN exit poll:
According to exit polls, Obama crushed McCain among women voters (56 percent to 43 percent); voters under 30 (66 percent to 32 percent); African-American voters (95 percent to 4 percent); Latino voters (66 percent to 32 percent); first-time voters (68 percent to 31 percent); and voters making less than $100,000 a year (55 percent to 43 percent).
Notice that "95%" of the African American voters believe the exact same way Obama believes, or did the election turn into a racial event?
It is my hope, (like I think all of America hopes), that our economy will improve with the next 4 years. I will support Obama as our new president. I am not a supporter of his values but do firmly hope he can help turn our economic situation around and make wise decisions.
There were a lot of issues at stake. What was most important to me was minor to someone else and vice versa. As I've stated earlier, I felt life was the most important issue. I also believe that marriage should be one man and one woman. (I'm going to get grief for this I know).
I felt it was important to really dig into what these candidates were about. I looked into past voting records. Obama's record on the abortion issue were enough to stop me cold.
I've voted Dem in the past as well as Rep. If you don't know what partial-birth abortion is, I challenge anyone with access to a computer to look it up (if you have the stomach). It is not what one thinks when you hear the word abortion.I know many very intelligent people who are shocked to learn what this is and that it is allowed. Please take a moment to check it out.
II Timothy 1:7
According to exit polls, .......African-American voters (95 percent to 4 percent); ..... now who is playing the race card.
schs_senior, don't feel bad. I've raised my children to see people and not color yet as the election results came in last night the people that she thought were her friends who happened to be black began to send snide text messages to her knowing that we had supported the McCain/Palin ticket. Messages about how "they were taking over...couldn't be stopped...nothing you can do now..." and laughing.
What would have happened if McCain would have won? Can anyone say RIOTS?
Thank you titanup1. I thought I was the only one that checked this out! The economy is in a shambles but raising my children in this world and teaching them to be good self supporting, honest citizens is a high priority for me. I don't believe in abortion on demand and I do believe in one man and one woman marriage. That is what I try to teach my children.
With the media, movies, music, radio, videos, etc. shoving immorality down my children throats, it is really hard these days to teach them right from wrong. They see immorality everywhere from school to tv and it's a shame.
Look at what people are voting for across the country. Who would have ever thought that we would even dream of doing things like this much less voting to make it legal? It's sad!
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results...
We will all sit back and see for 2012 ain't to far away.
A few commented on the "race card" remember there are still hate groups who will sacrifice their own to complete their cause, I hope it don't come to that.
Well I got stopped by a girl of color who just looked at me and assumed that since I was white I was a McCain supporter. She was right in that I supported him, but wrong in the assumption it was because of color. She cussed me saying that I should "be begging for forgiveness for what my ancestors put the black population through and hope that I was forgiven because they [the African Americans] are in control now." Yes, I was raised to treat everyone fairly and I even have an African American roommate. I just can't believe that all of a sudden it seems like reverse discrimination has come into play. If McCain had've won, the nation would have again made history with the first female Vice-President, but would reactions for her have been the same as they were for Obama?
You were the bigger of the two by just letting it go. With the attitude this young girl has shown you, if the whole black community feels this way, it could start riots all over the U.S. I had a situation happen today with a lady of color coming into the workplace celebrating Obama's victory. I don't think I would have acted that way if my candidate had won. We are going to see this celebrating for a while. They are proud. But there is no need in being mean or disrespectful because we each have different views.
Hopefully when the new wears off and Mr. Obama has been sworn in, we all can just watch and wait. His reputation is what will make or break him.
We still have 76 days left till Bush is out of office!!!!! Ugh, can someone speed up that process?
"63,000,000 people just told you two to shut your mouth!
-- Posted by Vindicated on Wed, Nov 5, 2008, at 9:30 AM"
Numbers don't make you smarter or necessarily correct. We'll see what happens.
I thought if we voted, we're allowed to complain so why is anyone being told to shut their mouth?
This is the first time in over 30 years that I can remember actually being scared about a President being elected. Either I'm just getting old or maybe there is much more to be scared about and too many Americans don't seem to be worried about what terrorists can actually do to our country. The economy won't be a concern if we have to worry about bombs being set off everywhere.
I am scared because I think Americans elected another President who can talk anyone into anything when they may/may not know what they are talking about and when I don't feel that we as a country really know enough about him yet. I would gladly have voted for Colin Powell because I believe that he has been around enough to know what is happening in the rest of the World and how it affects us. Complacency may be what we wish we had in a few months.
If anyone is going to bring race into it,I believe that whites can no longer be deemed as the only 'racists' in this country and I'm afraid we will now get to see how many African-Americans are also 'racist' even though they claim they are not.
I watched several true African-American leaders comment on TV last night with a heavy overtone of how history had been made with the election of the first African-American.
The two things that struck me as quite unusual was the fact once he was elected they wanted to mention race as such a big issue which they had not wanted to mention it much before the election. It really seemed they were actually happy because they thought (mistakingly) that the first African-American had been elected instead of the best man for the job? I honestly believed that most would have been just as happy and enthusiastic if Buckwheat and Spanky would have won. I actually believe they would have been happier with Buckwheat because deep down they would have known that he would have indeed been the first African-American elected as President since that seemed to be what was dearest to their heart during their interviews. In case most have not thought about it he (Obama)is just a little more Caucasian-American than he is African-American.
Another thing that was somewhat peculiar to see was Jesse Jackson with tears running down his eyes looking at the man he had talked about needing castration just months earlier? What gives?
And before all the usual cowardly rock (opinion) throwers that lay in hiding and secrecy in the bushes and closets cut loose on me for being a racist let me defend myself and say I am in no way a racist. Some of my best friends and people I look up to the most are African-American and Mexican. My disliking of Obama as a presidential candidate never came from his skin color but rather was solely based on the fact he was moderately over educated, severely under experienced, had an apparrant problem with the American flag if you watched him closely and in general favored a more punishing tax structure that I believe will destroy the desire to achieve and promote the ability of the mailbox money brigade to flourish with more business as usual.
If honest and true observations and facts bother you "hiding behind the bush" rock throwers that bad I apologize in advance for my inability to sugar coat and distort the facts to your perceived level of comfort. If I have to lie and sugar coat my opinion then I will have to come up with me a different an unidentifiable name and join the rest of you who hide behind the bushes.
This is the first time in over 30 years that I can remember actually being scared about a President being elected. Either I'm just getting old or maybe there is much more to be scared about and too many Americans don't seem to be worried about what terrorists can actually do to our country. The economy won't be a concern if we have to worry about bombs being set off everywhere.

stardust,
Just go to CNN's website and look up the pictures of what the international community is doing. They are celebrating our election! These same people may have terrorist friends and family in our country. I don't understand what they are celebrating? You are not old, you are realistic. A lot of people share your feelings and there are others that should share your concern.
Obama may go down in history as the best president we have ever had. He may make history in negative ways that me and you have never experienced. We could lose some of our freedoms and gain some immoral changes. I am praying for the first part.
Wow, someone is sad that the world is finally behind us again? Lol... I guess you've gotten used to our president pissing off everyone he talks to. We need allies like never before and never have I ever seen some (very few, mostly from this area) want the world to continue to hate us.
Allies....LOL! Do you watch their elections?
Well, I certainly was not rooting for Obama, and I doubt much of the rest of the world was either. I imagine that a good percentage of the celebrating that was coming from our international neighbors was an expression of relief at the thought that the real reign of terror was finally coming to an end. I believe their excitement will be short lived though.
I also believe the media coverage of "history being made" does little, except to highlight the years of inequity and point to the wounds of the present. I think to do anything, except to acknowledge the new president as only a man, ultimately cheapens the victory for the civil rights movement.
Do you? and who is "their"? When referring to "their" elections, perhaps you should explain. Because countries like Great Britain, Japan, France and countless other peace seeking nations MUST be our allies, but have the ability to question our motive without being shut out. We want that to be reciprocated right?
I think it will be interesting to see who Obama places as his Cabinet members..
No, I can't say I've ever watched an international election. I've heard they are going to be held but don't recall the media attention like the one we just had. Some countries do not even allow public elections for all citizens.
I agree we have allies, but we also have countries that have let us down. Me and you may not agree on who our allies are but that is another blog.
I don't understand the statement "but have the ability to question our motive without being shut out." What do you think our motives are?
Like "preemptive" war that was questioned... by most major nations, yet we went at it alone, because our "intelligence" was pathetic, and flat out wrong. We are the super power in the world, but even goliath needs to be contained, remember david?
I think to do anything, except to acknowledge the new president as only a man, ultimately cheapens the victory for the civil rights movement.
-- Posted by memyselfi on Wed, Nov 5, 2008, at 9:33 PM
memyselfi,
I actually somewhat agree with your comments for once (just a little).
The acknowledgements I watched by other African-American leaders that primarily dealt with recognizing him as the first African-American president in lieu of any recognition of him as just the best choice of a man cheapened and set back the image of the African-American civil rights movement decades in a lot of minds. I actually thought they were much, much further along than what they themselves seemed to think by overly and desperately grasping out in hope of the victory of what can accurately and decisively be debated is a white man that is less than 100% white and less than 50% African-American.
Although groups and agencies such as the NAACP and the likes of Jesse Jackson once were a benefit to a people they represented, they seem now to be a detriment to the advancement of the same people. I actually can be and am color blind until groups such as the NAACP reminds me that they think the African-American is still falsely recognized as an inferior people who still need them. I sometimes wonder if the NAACP has not figured out they are out of business once everyone realizes that the African-American has already fully arrived and maybe they look at job security as anytime they can cleverly display their people as inferior and being in need of help from them. In all honesty these groups remain as the only reminder that there ever was a perceived difference in any race to me.
On a lighter note here, Was that not the ugliest dress you ever saw that Michelle Obama was wearing.
I think it will be interesting to see who Obama places as his Cabinet members..
-- Posted by Dianatn on Wed, Nov 5, 2008, at 9:56 PM
It will be interesting. I hope to goodness his cabinet is not wealthier than the Bush administration cabinet (the richest in history), or at least if they are wealthy they are philanthropist and humble people. We shall see. I wonder how true the whole bipartisan cabinet idea will be on or before January 20, 2009
I hope to goodness his cabinet is not wealthier than the Bush administration cabinet (the richest in history),
Posted by darrick_04 on Wed, Nov 5, 2008, at 10:27 PM
darrick_04,
Maybe he will pick the poorest administration cabinet in history. That way they can make the same decisions they made in life to get themselves where they are at so they can carry us there with them? What do you think?
I doubt it'll be the poorest considering Warren Buffet, Colin Powell and many others are in consideration, however... Any administration should be far superior to the multiple firings, resignations, scandals, etc we have witnessed since 2001.
Sorry, but an earlier previous comment made it sound like it was a bad idea to surround yourself with successful business minded people if you are running the largest business in the U.S. as Bush is.
parkerbrothers, Before we start a bad habit of agreeing about anything, let me clarify my comment. While I do not believe all of the attention should have been given to the presidential candidate's race, I do believe that to this day there are fundamental discrepancies, not only affecting the black people in this country, but the poor of every race. It would be easy for me to accept the fact that everyone has an equal chance, were it not for the fact that we are not all born into equal circumstance. Children do not choose their parents financial or educational positions nor do they determine the way they are to be raised or the concern to be instilled into them about their future. Some children are advantaged by these things while others are at a disadvantage. There are also basic differences in the abilities of any given individual. While I see it less and less as a race issue, the issue remains as far as I am concerned. Until we can level the playing field, I think we need groups to advocate for the ones who are neglected by our system.
"Wow, someone is sad that the world is finally behind us again? Lol... I guess you've gotten used to our president pissing off everyone he talks to. We need allies like never before and never have I ever seen some (very few, mostly from this area) want the world to continue to hate us.

Disturbia, if this was addressed to me, My question is, Does he have everyone(World included)mesmerized by his talk? Also, no matter who is our President, the world will find fault with anything we do.
Of course they will, because for 8 years they have had great reason to. It's hard to suddenly go from a unilateralist regime to a worldwide network working in unison rather than in opposing fashion.
I say, give him a chance... Bush had 8 years, and Obama has not even had one day. Why are we so quick to slam a man who has yet to prove himself while defending one who has all but destroyed America's image.
Sorry, but an earlier previous comment made it sound like it was a bad idea to surround yourself with successful business minded people if you are running the largest business in the U.S. as Bush is.

Yeah lets not have any of those eevvvilll rich people around. BTW, its not the govts job to donate to charity.
gay marriage amendment.
as a conservative i disagree strongly with this.
it is not the government's place to sanctify marriages, that is within the purview of the churches.
the government should limit itself to the legal contract end of things, property rights, etc. and the church should determine whom they will and will not marry. the church should have the right to recognize or not recognize divorces, limit marriages to fertile mixed gender couples intending to bear children, or whatever restrictions that religion has as a part of their beliefs.
while many people obviously would like for the government to impose their own religious beliefs on others, i suspect the same people would be very unhappy to have the government impose someone else's religious beliefs on them.
if the government can ban gay marriage, by implication, the government could equally as easily require it to be recognized.
let the government stick to legal contracts, and let the churches decide on religious issues.
"That current growing problem is probably one of the things we should all be fixated and focused on speaking out against before our youth is deceived into thinking it is an acceptable way of life."
"growing problem"? homosexuality has been around all my life, and all available evidence would suggest that it has been around as long as humans.
and i see no point in speaking out about it. maybe your experience is different, but nobody's opinion was a factor in my "choice" to be heterosexual. that was the only version that was of interest to me. i dont see any possible way for someone to "deceive" me into being oriented differently any more than someone could trick me into thinking i like the taste of beets.
other people's business is other peoples business. it is my place to stay out of it.
maybe for you there is some overwhelming temptation, that you feel you need the help of society to resist, but for most of us it simply has no appeal.
lazarus,
While I can agree that noone can make you or me like the taste of beets the issue is really about warning someone not to eat the apples that are washed with poison instead of water?
You missed the point.

darrick_04,
No, you said word for word..."I hope to goodness his cabinet is not wealthier than the Bush administration cabinet (the richest in history), or at least if they are wealthy they are philanthropist and humble people."
I think there is one thing the democrats refuse to look at and that is they have let their party be taken over by a leftist socialist. I don't think John F. Kennedy would be a democrat today. And if there are any democrats in office that are more conservative they will be gradually replaced with someone who is more to the left.
I think because of that Christian democrats are going to have to rethink what party they are going to be associated with, we have a higher power then the president to answer to.
And HE is the One Universe Leader that will replace the yet to surface One World Leader.
I absolutely agree bellbuckletn . . . I considered myself a moderate Democrat but have been sadden by the direction that the Democratic party has decided to go with the party with the likes of Obama and Pelosi. That is why I refused to vote for Obama for president.
I getting a little tired of everyone talking about Obama like he is so poor and "just one of us". Do some research ON YOUR OWN. Don't just listen to what someone else told you. While he was that poor little community organizer look at the home he bought and while he was "struggling" through college look at all the trips he took to other countries around the world. My family has a hard time taking a trip cross country much less overseas. The money was coming from somewhere. Don't think he was poverty stricken. Don't be so naive. He has lots and lots of money behind him.

While I disagree with pretty all you've said in your post, this part in particular, "limit marriages to fertile mixed gender couples intending to bear children" is really bad. My husband and I don't have children, does that mean that we shouldn't have been allowed to be married? Do you think that churches should test all couples intending to marry to make certain that both parties are fertile? You're statement is so ridiculous that it's almost laughable.
BTW...did anyone see the lady on the news that was so excited that Obama won because now she won't have to pay for gas anymore and won't have to pay her mortgage. She wasn't joking either. What happens when he is in office and reality sets in and this lady realizes she DOES still have to pay her bills.
She thinks redistribution of wealth means she doesn't have to do anything but get paid. How many people will decide NOT to begin or expand their own businesses because of this. Why kill yourself working for someone who won't. It's kind of like the grasshopper and the ants story.
Eventually the wealthy (or wealthier) get tired of paying more and more (America has the 2nd highest business tax in the WORLD) and they take their business elsewhere. When they pull out of America they take money and jobs out of the economy. What is Obama's plan to combat that? I'm asking a real question. Does anyone know?
titanup1 . . . you will find crickets chirping in silence for an answer to your question. :-P
Most people dont see that point . . .they just see what is being done for them right now and not the consequences of such actions.
titanup1,
I have to agree with Jaxspike on the chirping crickets. I have asked several questions, and have yet to get any valid responses. Mostly just Bush bashing, so good luck with that one. You will occasionally get told to "shut your mouth" also from the less intelligent of the crowd.
I've been asking that question since February and I haven't found anyone who can tell me anything except, "Well, he's going to change things." I ask, "What?" I get, "He's a great speaker." So what! Hitler was a great speaker and had SOME good ideas for Germany BUT he was a butcher and a murderer. I am NOT comparing Obama to Hitler but being a great speaker doesn't cut it folks. Please tell me what he is going to change!
**chirp**chirp**chirp**...........
titanup1 . . . ask darrick_04 because he seems to know all there is to Obama.
cfrich,
sorry, i did not intend to take any position at all regarding who can and cannot marry,
only that it is the business of the churches, not the business of the government.
certainly i would consider those restrictions to be ridiculous, but if the government has the power to determine who can and cannot marry, what makes you think their restrictions will never be ridiculous?
lazarus -
I don't think it should be up to the churches to decide who is allowed to marry, nor should it be up to the government. Gay or straight, it's really only the business of the two people who want to marry. Also, not all straight couples marry in a church, does that make their marriages any less valid than those who married in a church?
Any group of people can call themselves a church. If all groups of people called themselves a church and performed wedding ceremonies, anyone or anything could get married. You could have straight, gay, beastialist, necrophilias, etc. There have to be some laws of the land involved. Or are all of these lifestyles okay too and should be allow to get married?
Leviticus 18 tells us that homosexuality is an abomination...or is it an OBAMAnation now. I get those two confused these days.
I don't think it should be up to the churches to decide who is allowed to marry, nor should it be up to the government. GOD was the one who decided man and women should marry. And he's higher then the church or the government.
It's unbelievable that this many of you think Obama will be so liberal. The truth is probably that very little will change in the near future. People run for President the first term, so that they can be in a second term. ;).. Being far left isn't the way Obama goes about doing that.
If he does, there is always the 2010 elections for the American people to vote R's into Congress to keep him in check.

The US has the second highest corporate tax rate in the world, but only on paper. The fact is that the US is a corporate tax haven. The actual tax rate is much, much lower due to all the lucrative loopholes built into our system of corporate favoritism. The actual tax rate paid by US corporations is around 6%, and two-thirds of US corporations pay no income tax.
Giving the wealthy more tax breaks does nothing but give wealthy corporate owners and managers a larger and larger share of the nation's income, and four decades of Reagan-style economics has proven that.
Those "lower" tax cuts are GREAT for corporate America. Try being a small business owner. Hardly a day goes past that something doesn't come in the mail wanting something. Taxes, insurance, workmans comp, etc. Small business owners are going bankrupt in America or barely hanging on. It is really hard to make a living and also provide ANY benefits to your employees. You can't overcharge customers just to make ends meet. So what do you do. GO BROKE.
"Leviticus 18 tells us that homosexuality is an abomination"
well, i apologize. i didnt realize that you lived by levitican law. i reckon there are a whole lot of amendments you want to see:
the death penalty for a child who curses their parent
the banning of eating (or even touching) pork, or shellfish
legalizing slavery as long as the slave is not related to you
the death penalty for adultery
burning the daughters of preachers alive if they become prostitutes
women not being allowed contact with anyone during their menstrual period
no harvesting in the corners of a field
persons with any disability may not become a preacher
no tatoos, also no haircuts or shaving
no interest charged on loans
no clothing made of blended materials
i wont go on, i am sure you are familiar with all 613 levitican laws.
while i admire you for your strict adherence to biblical law (surely you are not taking leviticus as a cafeteria plan, and only selecting the laws you want to live by)i am not sure we will be able force everyone to live by these laws.
AMEN Lazarus!
Mom of 3, if you didn't live in the Ward that Chad represented, it wasn't on your ballot. That is probably the reason.-- Posted by cordell on Wed, Nov 5, 2008, at 5:18 AM
Thanks Cordell.
What everyone seems to keep forgetting is that the United States of America consists of "MANY" religions, not just Christianity, and trying to bend laws, and bans based on Christianity Beliefs and the Bible will cause problems with those of a different faith or belief. There was "MANY RACES" through out the US celebrating the win of Barack Obama, not just Black. Those that were being hateful, boastful, and arrogant toward white people because of Obamas win are foolishly stupid and embarrassing to me and all African Americans. All the many races have seen how this country was ran, for the past 8 years, and did not want to go through another 4 years of the same. Black votes alone would not land Obama as the president, their are just as many or more whites that voted for him than blacks which help land him as President. Now "IF" McCain was talking about helping the 95% of americans that are loosing their jobs over seas, jobs closing down, jobs downsizing and laying off, jobs giving no raise, and only jobs being created more less are restaurant mom and pop jobs that can't last for more than a year or two, loosing health care, and mostly unaffordable health care with limitation on coverages, high priced medicine, food, gas, and "MORE IMPORTANTLY" a SUFFERING ECONOMY; Then these people would have been celebrating his (John McCain) Victory win of becoming president.
McCain stated that our "Economy is Fundamentally Sound". It may be sound for the wealthy, but 95% of americans are feeling a recession. Children are being born everyday, the population is "Growing" Good and Decent paying jobs are disappearing. Cost of living is going up, people are going into dept, loosing their homes, jobs, savings and retirements. Some that were middle class working people are becoming "Low income class working people" even some of the Good and Decent paying jobs are only hiring Temps to feel these job positions. Families of 4 or more are finding it harder and harder to keep up with the cost of living. Now if you don't even know the economy is suffering how in the world are you going to fix things. He is financially stable but is so out of touch with real American people how can he help them and Run this country?
AMEN Lazarus!

No matter how many deceived people including your buddy "nascarfanatic" you find to agree with you and excite an amen from you it will remain forever and ever and ever that "homosexuality is an abomination". No ifs, ands or buts about it.
Even nature should teach you an exit is not an entrance.
I have heard females using the exit as entrance too, So that doesn't apply, however painful it may be.
Momof3&3step&1gran,
Wrong, I would say it does apply. Paul wasted little time in Romans getting right to the point.
Romans 1
26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient
Every homosexual ought to be loved and warned of the ramifications of their lust before verse 28 becomes a sad and everlasting reality.
What will you do? Love them and warn them or continue to Hate them and let them perish through your acceptance.
I have been reading and I just can't stand I have to comment. I really don't understand the logic behind some of the thinking that had been displayed here. First of all, I just want to say that I am glad people chose to vote and people had a stand in the election. That's better than not caring at all. Second of all, all anybody has to say about our new president is his race, or religion or something along the lines of that. The media has played up upon his race and I think its wrong that has happened. Its true we have made history and elected the first black president. Get over it, its done! Now his race doesn't matter. He could be purple, what matters is what can he do for our struggling country?? That should be the first concern of our people.
Another thing that bothers me is people want to say things about other people's morals. Ok, think back....what was our country founded upon by the founding fathers? They wanted to make a place where people could come here to be free. To have freddom of religion, freedom of speech, and to have a better life. In that we have gotten millions and millions of people from other countries that have came to the U.S. for that specific reason. As long as they come legally we really can't saything. That is what we were founded upon. We are the Melting Pot of America. Morals...of course comes back to the issue of abortion. Why is ok that McCain wanted to amend our constitition to ban abortion? You want to talk about how you have ur savior and you just wanted a president.. first of all its a women's decision to have an abortion end of story. She has to deal with that and her maker will deal with her for her decision. I don't think our "president" should be making decisions like that.
I voted for Obama. Not to make history, but to voice my opinion for someone that I hope can help all the struggling people in our country. Let the truth be told that it would sure be hard to do any worse than what we have had.
here is more talk about judging people about their sexuality. Let God judge those people. Not you, not anyone. Nobody had to deal with the consequences of being lesbian or gay but our maker. I could care less, it doesn't affect me. We will all stand before one person when our day comes and we will have to live up to OUR own CHOICES not anyone elses. Government should not be able to dictate what sexuality a person is allowed to be.
Why is ok that McCain wanted to amend our constitition to ban abortion? Posted by outoftowner14
Our founding fathers did not have a ban on abortion put in the constitition to begin with, it was added in 1973 when the supreme court made it legal. So why shouldn't a president try to get it removed.
because its really none of his business. It goes back to being a women's choice. I am not saying I agree with abortion. I am just saying why should it be justified by anybody who is not going through it? Besides that with all that is wrong with our economy abortion should be the least of anyone's worries now.

According to a USA Today article the Obama's are quite the philanthropists themselves.
"In 2006, the Obamas reported giving $60,307 to charity, or about 6% of their income -- the largest percentage during those seven years. From 2000 through 2004, they reported giving a total of $10,770, or less than 1% of the $1.2 million they earned during that period."
I sure hope they're more philanthropic than the President-elect and his wife.
outoftowner14 it is a big deal. I want you to go and look up partial birth abortion and tell me that is not flat out murder. You want to call it "tissue with a heartbeat" and some of us call it a baby. I won't (as you say) stand before my maker one day and say "I really didn't care because it didn't affect me."
darrick--the world has found fault with America thru many presidents no matter what their party. Maybe if you were a little older, you would be more aware of the past.
disturbia I also didn't say anything about being sad--just scared. We'll see how he responds when we or an ally are attacked again. Maybe he'll talk them to death.
I am so happy to see most everyone has turned judgement back over to God and letting others alone. Less all love one another as Jesus asked us to. The government has no place in this. We have elected a great man for president less back him and let him have a chance to prove himself. We have a great country. Stop this hate and have faith that God will take care of us as he always has. We all know that our works have not saved us, It all has been by his grace and his death. Thanks Be To God
