I stopped by Calvary Baptist this morning for drive through prayer (and coffee.) What a great way to start the work week. It's brightened my whole day. Props to the folks at Calvary BC for a great idea.

Snow Dances
Posted Wednesday, January 4, at 12:54 PM

Today students (and some teachers) are watching the weather, hoping for some help from Mother Nature to extend their winter break. I've told my teenage son that if you put a spoon under your pillow at night, it will bring the snow. He wants to believe me...

What are you thankful for?
Posted Thursday, November 17, at 11:41 AM

This year I have much to be thankful for - though they may seem simple blessings, they are heartfelt. I'm thankful to be home to Tennessee, thankful for my husband and my children, thankful for my church family. What are you thankful for this year? How are the blessings you are counting now different than the ones of years past?...

Craft Fair Advisory
Posted Friday, October 14, at 3:48 PM

Janet Robinson of the Town of Bell Buckle called this afternoon to offer a safety advisory to guests of the 35th Annual Webb School Art and Craft Festival. By tradition, trains have slowed down when coming through town during the two-day event. CSX has advised they will not be able to alter their schedules this year...

Overcoming Twitter-phobia
Posted Friday, September 2, at 7:16 PM

I've resisted the Twitter phenomena up till now. I've been watching the success one of my high-school friends has with marketing her firm via Twitter, I thought I would try it out. So far I've learned that tweeted news travels the fastest. I'm getting up to the minute spoilers for my favorite summer reality show, and I'm discovering lots of local websites and blogs I had never visited before...

Teachers and Digital Citizenship
Posted Tuesday, August 9, at 7:20 PM

Today we reported on the recommendation from Bedford County schools that employees of the school system sever their links with currently enrolled students on social media platforms (like Facebook). I'm interested in hearing from parents and teachers -- what do you think of the recommendation? Post them here, or email me at tsimmons (at) t-g.com...

Have You Seen My Trashcan?
Posted Thursday, August 4, at 8:00 AM

Heavy storms and wind blew through Shelbyville last night, causing damage to buildings and knocking down trees. What was the damage like at your house? Don't forget to include the area of town you're talking about, and if you have photos, please upload them to our site...

The Unemployed Need Not Apply
Posted Tuesday, August 2, at 8:13 AM

One of the newest trends in the online job search is that of employers stating a "strong" preference for people who are currently employed, or very recently laid off. If you are actively seeking employment, have been out of work six months or more and are willing to be interviewed for an upcoming story, please contact me at tsimmons (at) t-g.com...

Nothing Like a Good Raisin
Posted Wednesday, July 27, at 8:51 PM

In my early years in Phoenix, I made a conscious effort to lose my southern accent. No shame implied, but in my earliest conversations with our sub contractors I quickly realized "Where are you from, again?" and "Hey, say that again!" were detractors to the job at hand...

Uncovering Hidden Gems
Posted Wednesday, July 20, at 7:18 PM

Greetings! As of today, I'm the officially the newest addition to the Times-Gazette staff. I'll be supporting the team by continuing to write features and general interest stories. Those with long memories may remember that I worked here previously in the late 1990s. Writing for the TG is something of a love affair -- and a privilege. Today I joined a rather distinguished list of writers who have come, gone and later returned to the TG...
