Trying to Catch Up

It's been a while since I've blogged- about 3 months. My intention was to be a weekly blogger, but the work load of an animal welfare volunteer is often overwhelming. For the past 3 months I found myself starting the day by 6:30 a.m. and ending about 11 p.m. with still mounds of work to do that carried over to each day. Although Sat. and Sun. weren't quite as long, there was always work to do. I would get a small amount of rest and then back to it hot and heavy again.

I am the type of person who likes to be busy and I want to help, so hard work doesn't bother me. Blogging just wasn't the priority during these times. I am going to make a better effort because I think it is important to share with others about the work that is being done. Here is a synopsis of what's been happening.

The holiday season found many people wanting animals and many being placed in loving homes. It was great! Three truck loads of dogs and puppies have been transported to the Wisconsin, Milwaukee Humane- with about 35 to 40 going each time. Adoptions dropped off in Jan. and Feb. but the number of animals kept coming. The shelters stay full in spite of all the hard work. PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME! It's the only answer.

Cats don't have as many adoptions and there aren't transport programs for them, so there are more euthanasias of cats because of lack of space. Again, spaying and neutering is the only hope.

With the colder weather brought many in need of dog houses and/or straw. We provided them for many throughout the last few months. Some didn't have food for their animals and we were able to provide that as well. Thank goodness for kind people who donate food, supplies, etc. which helps us help these people keep their best friends.

There has been substantial growth and change in the animal agencies over the past couple of months. It has been challenging, but positive. Administrative and board decisions have brought the various agencies together to work even closer and will in the end result in benefiting the whole community.

Like I said it's been busy, but it's a worthwhile cause and I know it is making a difference.
