A Red Cross blood drive was held at First Baptist Church, Depot Street, last week in honor of leukemia patient Mark Kelly Olson. According to Maleah Qualls, shown with Olson, 59 volunteers came to donate, with 50 accepted as donors. According to Donor Recruitment Representative Lans Butaud, those donations could affect 150 lives.

Victoria N. Dugan, daughter of Edmee' Casanova of Shelbyville, attended the University of Tennessee at Martin's recent Fall Preview Day. Students had the opportunity to tour the UT Martin campus and meet with faculty and staff to learn about academic programs, financial aid, scholarships, housing and student life.

The Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a DAR Grave Marking Ceremony for Rachel Gunn Sargent (12/18/1921 - 3/14/2007) and her daughter, Janice Fite Head (10/1/1946 - 4/15/2011) on Sunday, Oct. 14 at the Rosebank Cemetery in Flat Creek. Sargent joined DAR on Oct. 17, 1975 and Head joined Oct. 9, 1970. Pictured are Marilyn Lewis, Regent Dixie Parker, Linda Pitts, Mary Lynn Prince, Vickie Lilly and DAR Chaplain Roxanna Francesconi.
