East Side Elementary Principal Sara Wood was presented a $300 check by the Shelbyville Retired AT&T Pioneers. The funds will be used to provide supplies for environmental and science studies. October is Fire Safety Month, and Kindergartners at Southside School got a special visit from the Shelbyville Fire Department and Fire chief Brian Nicholson. Along with firemen Justin Bird and Brandon McCullough, he talked to students about fire safety. Bird dressed up in gear to show the Kindergartners everything that firefighters have to wear to fight fires.

Reading students in Nichole Yockey's third grade classes performed two different reader's theaters for the Angela Pridmore's fourth grade reading classes. Yockey used curriculum from the Social Studies series and integrated it into her reading class. Her class performed "It's a Goal" for the fourth graders.
